WELCOME Welcome to the 2017 National Primary School Shield hosted by New Zealand Cricket at the New Zealand Cricket High Performance Centre, Lincoln University. This Handbook has been prepared to provide team managers and coaches with information about the tournament and the venue. New Zealand Cricket is looking forward to working with all involved in the tournament to ensure it is an enjoyable experience for all players, coaches, managers, umpires and scorers.

The tournament will consist of five round robin matches per team. On Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th November morning games will start at 10am. Games on Saturday 25th November will start at 9.30am to free up time for teams travelling home after the Closing Ceremony.

MAP OF GROUNDS
The managers’ meeting on Wednesday 22nd November will be held in Bert Sutcliffe Pavilion changing room (see no. 4 on above map) at 5:30pm. The opening ceremony and BBQ dinner will be held at the food hall (see no. 8 on above map) following the managers’ meeting (6:15pm onwards). The closing ceremony will be held outside the Bert Sutcliffe Pavilion on Saturday 25th November (see no. 4 on above map) immediately after all games have been completed. Please note that the Bert Sutcliffe Oval will not be used during the tournament due to a tour match being played between the West Indies and a NZ XI. An additional ground has been prepared next to Lincoln No. 3 and will be used for the duration of the tournament.

On arrival at Christchurch Airport teams will be met at the Gate by NZ Look Shuttles with a sign (NZ Cricket). If the team Manager can please make themselves known to the NZ Look Shuttle representative they will give further instruction. ARRIVAL AT LINCOLN UNIVERSITY Please call Kent Stead from New Zealand Cricket, 021 278 0432, as you are approaching the University to arrange pick up of your accommodation keys.
TRANSPORT No rental vans have been booked for teams as teams are staying on site. However, the New Zealand Cricket van can be made available for teams. Please notify tournament staff at the managers’ meeting if you would like to borrow the van. A New World Supermarket is a 5-10 minute walk from the university and the Lincoln Township (chemist, food stores, post shop, hairdresser, church, cafés, restaurant and bars) is a further 5-10 minute walk from the supermarket. Lincoln University also has a Café, bar and vending machines.

Each team member will have a single room and will be issued with an individual room key (and swipe card for those in Colombo and Lowrie). All Players should ensure that their room is kept locked at all times. If a room needs to be unlocked during the tournament please ring the University’s on site security personnel who will open it. The number is 03 325 2822. If rooms are left unlocked the cleaners will lock them even if the key is inside!!
Rooms are serviced daily however team members are to make their own beds. Team members will be provided with two towels each day and towels will also be available at the grounds on match days.
All rooms are NON-SMOKING including individual bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas. All teams must take all gear and luggage with them on the morning of Weds 22nd Nov to the ground they are playing at. Gear and luggage can be put into the changing rooms at each ground. Teams’ keys must be returned to tournament staff before the start of play on Weds 22nd Nov.
MEALS
Breakfast and Dinner will be served at the Food Hall at the following times: Breakfast: 7:30am-8:30am Dinner: 6:30pm-7:30pm Teams who have a change in plans and will not be eating at the Food Hall on a particular morning/night must advise tournament staff at least 24 hours prior to the meal, failure to do so will result in the school being charged for the meal. Lunches will be delivered to teams between 12:30pm-1pm by tournament staff.

A barbecue is available as an option for teams not wanting to eat every evening at the Food Hall. These can be served in a different location around the University. The Team Manager will need to give tournament staff 24 hours notice if they would like a barbecue and the location for this. Teams will also be responsible for uplifting all catering ingredients and returning them to the dining room at the conclusion of the barbecue.
LAUNDRY
Washing machines, dryers and irons are available at Lincoln University. Tokens are not required to operate any of the machines.
COVERS Teams have been drawn at random to assist with taking off the covers on all grounds each day. Teams must provide 12 people to be ready at 7.30am outside the Bert Sutcliffe Oval. In the evenings the HPC Turf Manager will liaise with the team management as to whether assistance is required.
In the event of rain during a match, all players must assist the ground staff with putting on the covers immediately once the Umpires signal the covers are to be brought on, and then taking the covers off again before play resumes. Please do not walk over the covers with spikes. Please refer to the below table for covers duty

RESPECTING THE PITCH AND BLOCK All teams are expected to show great respect when playing on the pitches and blocks throughout the tournament. Celebration of wickets should be done away from the pitch/block and players should take care with their spikes when on the pitch. Players should also reframe from excessive scrapping of guards and marks, ground staff have paint that can be used to mark bowling run ups. New Zealand Cricket have a busy summer on the three grounds at Lincoln including the Under 19 World Cup and your assistance to ensure these grounds stay in good condition throughout the summer is much appreciated.

EMERGENCIES/ACCIDENTS AND INCIDENTS Smoke detectors and alarm bells are fitted throughout the Halls. If the alarm bells ring continuously, evacuate the building immediately, closing smoke doors as you depart. Assemble at a safe distance outside the front entrance to each Hall. Earthquake Safety procedures can be found in the accommodation halls where teams are staying.
The emergency number is 111 however at Lincoln University you will need to ring 1 first, if using a land line to get an outside line.
If police, fire or ambulance is required the number to call is: 1-111
If any team member is involved in an accident whilst staying at Lincoln please urgently inform your Team Manager to ensure appropriate action is taken
MANAGERS’ MEETING A pre-tournament managers’ meeting will take place on Wednesday 22nd November at the Bert Sutcliffe Pavilion (in changing rooms) at 5.30pm. Team managers, coaches, and New Zealand Cricket Staff must be present.
OPENING CEREMONY The opening ceremony will take place at the Lincoln University Food Hall after the pre-tournament meeting (6.15pm).
BBQ DINNER There will be a BBQ Dinner at the Lincoln University Food Hall for all teams immediately after the opening ceremony (6.30pm). Food will be supplied by New Zealand Cricket.
CRICKET BALLS/SCOREBOARDS AND SCORING All teams are responsible for providing their own practice balls.
NZC will supply scoreboards and match balls – 145g, Pink Kookaburra Crown. The batting team is responsible for updating the scoreboard at the end of each over during the match.
The games will be live scored by New Zealand Cricket and can be followed on www.nzc.nz Games will also be live scored on CricHQ and can be followed on http://www.nzc.nz/community/tournaments-and-hawke-cup
DRINKS AND ICE There will be containers of water set up each day at each of the grounds. And ice will be available from tournament management in case of injury.

SHELTER At the Lincoln No.3 grounds and the Lincoln Green there will be portable containers dropped in for teams to use as changing rooms and also gazebos for additional shade.
CLOSING CEREMONY The closing ceremony will take place on Saturday 25th November, on completion of the final round of games. Teams need to make their way to outside the Bert Sutcliffe Pavilion promptly after their match to ensure teams get to the airport/on the road on time.

Three Fields: Bert Sutcliffe Oval – Entrance is within the University campus. When coming from Calder Drive take Farm Road on the right and then the NZC Turf Maintenance gate entrance on the left, proceed into the oval (see map). Lincoln No. 3 – Entrance is within the University. When coming from Calder Drive take Farm Road on the right and then the shingle path immediately after the tennis courts on the right (see map). Lincoln Green – Entrance is within the University. When coming from Calder Drive take Farm Road on the right, drive passed tennis courts and turf maintenance entrance and take the driveway to the right just before the Football Academy fields (Football Academy fields have high netted fences for identification) (see map).
Concussion - If a player is suspected to have suffered a concussion during play, umpires and tournament staff will follow protocol to ensure the player is removed from the game and taken to seek medical attention.
