Basic information• Český ráj (The Bohemian Paradise)
• This Protected Landscape Area was the first large-scale specially Protected Area in the Czech Republic
• established in1955 on an area of 92 km²
• nowadays : 181 km2

Protected - why?• this countryside has been modified by man for
thousands of years, though in relative harmony with nature
• the aim is to conserve natural treasures, the character of the landscape and biodiversity
• the area is formed mainly of block sandstones
• the current form of the rocks is the result of the long-term effects of forces rising the Earth’s core and of long-term erosion.

• There is the problem with the planned main road – motorway- going through the protected area of Bohemian Paradise . A lot of people protest and organise protest marches and wanted to stop it.
• Nobody knows how it will end.???????
Geopark Bohemian Paradise• Bohemian Paradise became the first
Czech member of European/Global Geopark Networks in 2005
• the geopark area with nearly 700 km2
is larger than Protected Landscape Area of Bohemian Paradise which is situated in its center
• thanks this fact was our town Nová Paka joined into this large protected area
• The geopark includes variety of geological phenomens, paleontological, mineralogical- G signs and archeological localities- A signs and historical monuments- M signs for museums and other signs for castles and ruins of castles and for folk architecture ( old wooden country cotages) and numbers fro 1 – 14 mean rock towns with

• Petrified (stoned)Forest is one of the phenomens in this geopark
• petrified wood can be found in our = Nová Paka region. The biggest part of the petrified tree (tree of auraukarit) ever found is the 8 m long one exhibited in the garden of the town
museum in
Nová Paka.

• You can see some photos from construction site of the supermarket Lidl in our town . The work had to be stopped and the geologists came to explore this site and it was found the longest petrified tree ever but unfortunately it broke in to smaler parts and some of its parts were brought into our geological town museum.

• Our town is situated near the National park Krkonoše English called Giant mountains
• The main problem is the balanced relationship between the nature and tourism – especially winter skiing

nowadays problem of the spa Lázně Bělohrad in our region, especially protection of swamp and moor area in farmer countness phasantry and nessessity of using peat for medical porposes from other unprotected areas.
• In this film you will also see the newest spa hotel in which students from our school – studying gastronomy and tourism education fields - have their practical lesssons.
