Hawkins-King Chapter

• Purpose: The purpose of this organization shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of Hixson High School.

What have we done?

• Float for homecoming (August)• Trick or Treat fundraising event (October)• Caroling at local nursing home (December)• Angel Tree (December)• LEAD Conference (February)• McKenzie Arena (March)• Color Me Chattanooga Fun Run (April)• Sculpture Garden clean-up (Saturday the 20th)• EOC study nights (First week of May)• Help with the Walk for Perthes (May with HOSA)

What do we want to do?

• Focus on serving our community and school population• Work toward building up the reputation of NHS within

the school population • Continue some of the events from this past year. Mainly,

LEAD conference, EOC Study Night, Color Me Chattanooga, and the Sculpture Garden Clean-up

The Role of the Council

The Faculty Council is a governing body that functions without the input or influence of the advisor for the benefit of the chapter and its members. Duties are related to: member selection and dismissal, setting rules and regulations, and amending by-laws. • Article IV, Section 3: The selection of members will be by majority vote of the

Faculty Council.• Article V, Section 1: The dismissal procedure shall be determined and carried out by

the Faculty Council. • Article VIII, Section I: Fees include induction fees and chapter dues. The exact

amount to be paid will be determined by the Faculty Council each year before induction of new members.

• Article X, Section 1: Bylaws must be approved by the principal and Faculty Council. After these approvals, a copy of the bylaws will be given to the membership review.

• Article XI, Section 4: Although input is encouraged from the chapter, sections dealing with selections, discipline, and dismissal of members can be changed only by the Faculty Council

The Role of the Advisor

What We Do:• Conduct chapter meetings• Plan chapter events• Keep records of service hours and meeting attendance• Communicate with chapter members• Act as a liaison between chapter members and the faculty council.

What We Don’t Do:• Make changed to by-laws • Dismiss or select a student (or add input during the selection

process)

President

• The president shall be the presiding officer at all regular and called meetings.

• The president, along with the chapter adviser, shall set the agenda for the meetings and see that it is carried out.

• The president shall be the head of the Service Project Committee and oversee accountability of service hours for members of the chapter.

Vice-President

• The vice president shall preside in the absence of the president.

• The vice president shall also appoint members of all committees and oversee the work of the committees.

Secretary

• The secretary shall take roll at all regular and special called meetings.

• The secretary shall also keep minutes of these meetings.• In addition, the secretary shall also inform the president

and chapter adviser of those students who do not attend regular meetings.

• The secretary will also be in charge of advertising meetings through announcements, etc., and serve as chairman of the publicity committee.

Treasurer

• The treasurer shall collect dues from the membership and keep a record of those members who have paid.

• The treasurer shall also consult with the chapter adviser about any financial matters that concern the chapter, including money collected for dues and money earned through fund raising projects.

• The treasurer will serve as chairman of the bylaws review committee.

Committees

• Service Project• This committee will explore service projects and activities for the chapter. • They will plan and help execute the projects, along with the chapter

membership. • The chapter president will be the chairman of this committee.

• Bylaws• This committee shall review the bylaws and determine if revisions are

needed. • They will bring the suggested revisions to the membership for ratification. • This committee is appointed by the chapter adviser. • The chapter treasurer will serve as chairman of this committee.

• Publicity • This committee shall publicize all regular meetings, and special called

meetings. • The committee shall also publicize all projects in a positive manner. • The chapter secretary shall be chairman of this committee.

Dues

• “At the beginning of the following school year, members have the opportunity to pay chapter dues at the lowest rate until October 31 or the nearest Friday. After this date, chapter dues will increase by at least $5.00...”

• What does this mean? Current Seniors need to pay their chapter dues before graduation.

• Chapter dues are $20
