This event aims to bring experts together and promote the exchange of best practices and know-how in circular econ-omy practices within the agricultural and livestock produc-tion sectors. The aim is to create and promote a sustainable production system which will be under scientic control and supported by active primary producers.
Circular economy practices in the livestock production sector in Rethymnon, Greece - Site Visits
1) Visit to a creamery in Amari, Rethymnon : In coopera-tion with the Directorate of Agricultural Economics and Veterinary Medicine of Rethymnon, the licensing of the use of whey in the feeding of sheep and goats in certain sheep and goat farms is being implemented. Breeders are informed and trained in this direction by collecting whey for use as a coarse animal feed in sheep and goats
2) Visit to an Olive Oil Workshop of N. Rethymno : Descrip-tion of the procedure to use waste residues from olive oil production such as olive leaves and other grasses as feeding for sheep and goats. Description of the training procedures in line with the scientic guidance of the breeders who use olive oil plant waste as animal feed.
3) Presentation of good practices of circular economy in a lamb fattening plant using products of vegetable and animal waste. Synergies - Harmonic coexistence and complementarity of agriculture and livestock.
The implementation of circular economy in agriculture and the agri-food sector is now a one-way street. In this context, after the end of the conference, an action group organized by our initiative will be appointed as responsible for implementing the necessary actions.
