Defensive Pass Interference• Defensive players have equal right to the ball• Contact while pass is in flight• Automatic first down and 15 yards from previous spot• No such thing as an “uncatchable pass”

Free Kick• Kicking team can not catch ball in flight, ball must

touch the ground or a Receiving team player before Kicking team can gain possession

• Ball can not be advanced by Kicking team while play is in the kick state (muff)

• A ball that goes into the Kicking team’s end zone while in the kick state is a touchback

• Grounding the Ball• Hand-to-hand snap, QB must immediately throw the

ball forward into the ground• No such thing as grounding the ball outside of the

“tackle box”• Throwing ball out of bounds can be intentional

grounding

• Scrimmage Kick• Kicking team can catch ball in flight if the

Receiving team is not in position to do so• Kicking team can legally bat ball back towards

their goal line• A ball that goes into the Kicking team’s end

zone while in the kick state is a touchback
