U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service The staff at the National Elk Refuge has been anxiously flipping through L.L. Bean holiday catalogs this month, looking for familiar scenes and models after serving as a shooting location for the well-known retail company earlier this year. Finding the most recognizable shot was easy: the refuge’s historic Miller House is prominently featured on the cover of a recently released 2018 Gift Guide issue. A production crew and special effects team spent two days in July at the iconic homestead replicating a winter holiday scene and capturing images for the widely distributed seasonal catalogs that feature clothing and outdoor receation equipment. Senior Photo Producer Melissa Klein explained that shooting out of season isn’t ideal but is necessary considering the production time it takes to put together the catalogs.
