FIXED TREATMENT PLANT

La Mia Energia is in charge of the collection of waste from photovoltaic panels (WEEE) and the subsequent transportation to treatment plants, operating through a convayance and treatment network of qualified partners, selected according to criteria of efficiency and environmentally sound performance.

The facility devoted to the recycling of photovoltaic panels, registered to the WEEE CDC in accordance with legislative decree 49/14 and authorized according to art. 214/216 of legislative decree 152/06 by the Province of Frosinone, allows the Consortium to manage the waste directly, with a lower environmental impact and a reduction of costs through the recovery of secondary raw materials. Specifically, the plant owned by our Consortium uses the system of disassembling the photovoltaic panels to allow the recovery of the raw materials they contain. From the treatment the plant retrieves approximately 95% of the raw materials contained in the panel purged from aluminum.

PLANTS

The standard crystalline silicon solar panel usually consists of:

A protective foil on the top exposed to light, characterized by high transparency (the most popular material is toughened glass);

An encapsulation material to avoid direct glass-cell contact, capable of eliminating all gaps due to cell surface imperfections and of electrically isolating the cell from the rest of the panel; in processes that use the rolling phase ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA) is often used;

A substrate for posterior support (glass, metal, plastic);

A metal frame (chassis), usually made of aluminum;

PLANTSPV-Mo.Re.De.’s innovation potential was acknowledged and supported by the European Community through the financing of a project for international market penetration, with a non-repayable contribution of over 450,000 euros via the CIP Eco-lnnovation call 2012.La Mia Energia Scarl, Coordinator (Italy), developed the research activities in cooperation with international partners: University of Florence-Department of industrial engineering (Italy); Leitat Technological Center (Spain); Pv Cycle (Belgium).

PV-Mo.Re.De. is a mobile plant for the recycling of disused photovoltaic modules aimed at recovering raw materials (aluminum, glass, copper, active picture materials) and energy (COR-Eva and Tediar), and is able to operate directly in the location where the PV modules are installed, in recycling plants, or in the manufactoring factories.

The mobile system introduces a new technology in the recycling of photovoltaic panels: in place of the currently used thermal-chemical treatment, our device intervenes with an innovative exclusively mechanical process.

The validity and uniqueness of the PV-MO. RE.DE. mobile plant, focused on the preservation and re-use of natural resources, environmental improvement, rational and efficient use of energy and renewable energy implementation, resulted in its selection among the candidates competing for The 2015 World Sustainability Award by Energy Globe Foundation GmbH.
