World Social work Day theme for 2018 - 2019 is ‘Importance of Human Relationship’. In line with this global theme, KAPS has taken the theme for KSWC 2019 - revisiting the term ‘relationship’ in professional social work practice. In social work, unlike most of the other human service professions, relationship is much beyond just a ‘professional relationship and it is more than a ‘means’ for practice. In social work, relationship is our major tool of practice and many a time, an end in itself. Connectedness, inclusiveness and belief bonding are concepts those denote the different manifestations or aspects of relationship that exist in professional social work practice.

Connectedness refers to the sense of belonging, meaningful contact and the sum of individual relationships.

Inclusiveness is the policy and practice of professional social work. Social work relationship should include people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized.

The helping relationship in social work practice is based on an emotional interaction between the social worker and the help seeker. Empathy, warmth, acceptance and genuineness are the facilitative conditions for this bond. Belief bonding takes social work relationship beyond rapport and makes the relationship more effective through a theory guided therapeutic alliance.
