QUALITYPOLICY
NAIR is committed to achieving ‘Excellence in Training Railway Managers’ so that the corporate objectives of the Indian Railways are sufficiently met.
We are also committed to continual improvements in our training methodology and towards this end, we have adopted the comprehensive periodic reviews within the framework of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems.
CLASSROOMS
There are nine Air-Conditioned classrooms equipped with various facilities such as PC, internet, over head multi media projector facilities, etc. During winters, classes are conducted in the amphi-theatre to conserve energy. Two more state of art class rooms with capacity of 100 participants are getting ready and will be started soon.
IT Infrastructure
Cybrary as it is called popularly, houses more than 20 computers with high speed internet connectivity, printer and scanner facilities to cater to all curricular needs of the trainee officers. It remains open from 08.00 hours to 23.00 hours,
LIBRARY
It houses more than 51,000 books including codes, manuals, reports, journals and magazines. Educational movies are available in the display centre SUDARSHAN. Up to 10 books can be issued at a time. E-book readers are also available for the use of trainee officers. The library is open from 09.30 hours to 20.00 hours on Monday to Friday, and 10.00 hours to 20.00 hours on Saturday.
MODEL ROOM
The model room is at the heart of training aspects related to railway transportation. It houses working models of different classes of stations, block instruments and signaling and telecommunication equipment.
SARDAR PATEL SABHAGRIHA
Generally referred to as SPS, this well equipped auditorium has a seating capacity of 250. It is used for conducting seminars, conferences, mock drill sessions, cultural functions and films on a regular basis. Classes are also conducted here as per requirement.
HOSTELS
The Academy has the largest hostel & mess accommodation amongst all Central Training Institutes of IR. NAIR has the distinction of making available AC facilities in all officer rooms in various hostels. There are three hostels and a Guest House.
PAHUNE: has 96 rooms plus nine family rooms with a music room. Dance and Drama room, and Ironing& Washing rooms.
Pahune reception handles transport booking 24 x 7. Two buses (one AC) and other (SUVs) are available.
MEHMAN: overlooks the scenic Lalbaug gardens and serves Senior Scale and JAG level officers.
There are 44 officers room in Mehman including 13 family rooms. Washing machines and ironing room, Shoe polishing facilities are also available. The reading lounge in this hostel has computers and printers facility.
ATITHI: This is the new building that has 75 rooms including suites and VIP rooms. Located near the Pratapnagar gate, Atithi exclusively serves senior officers. All rooms are provided with TV and intercom facility. Every floor has washing machine and ironing room. The spacious lounge of this hostel has a large TV. Table tennis facilities are also available. This hostel has come in place of east wing of old hostel.
Essential Kit at Hostel – Essential kit like tooth brush, tooth paste, shampoo, soap etc. are available on payment at reception counters of all hostels.
Officers Rest House (GIRIRAJ): This six-suite rest house hosts senior VLs and VIP guests from time to time. All the hostels of NAIR have subscriptions of various
newspapers and magazines. All the receptions are manned 24x7 and supervisors give first priority to hostel complaints.
Recreation hall: A spacious recreation hall in Pahune Hostel with facilities for chess, carrom, table tennis and fuss ball, 2 Billiard tables, 2 pool tables etc. National level championships are also conducted here. Watching live matches on TV in groups is a common sight in the lounge.
ANNAPURNA MESS
Savour your taste buds in the Officers Mess in the NAIR campus. Both the halls of the Officers Mess are air conditioned, LED-lit and equipped with modern facilities like central music system and TV.
The mess is managed through active participation of the trainee officers. Costing and accounting is done in a transparent manner. Payments can be made through cards. Officers take pride in following the mess timings and the dress code in a disciplined manner. Room service is available in exceptional cases.
The Officers Mess has the capacity to serve up to 300 officers. It also caters for special occasions organized in the Raja Baug lawns. Theme-based dinners are organized regularly.
AMUL PARLOUR Any length of stay in Gujarat is incomplete without relishing AMUL products! The Amul Parlour on the NAIR campus serves milk products and of course the famous ice cream on payment basis. It has also a tea & coffee vending machine.
SPORT COMPLEX
HEALTH CLUB
NAIR is committed to keeping its officers physically and mentally fit. The AC health club at NAIR is equipped with modern gymming equipments. Apart from this, a mini gym and an open air gym are also available for use by guest officers.
SWIMMING POOL& SAUNA
Well equipped swimming pool and sauna is popular both among kids and adults. A professionally qualified trainer is available for teaching swimming to the officers.
BASKETBALL & VOLLEYBALL
The basketball and volleyball courts foster team spirit among trainee officers.
BADMINTON
Six badminton courts of international standards host faculty and trainee officers for matches. A professional coach is available to train the officers.
Squash – An international standard wooden squash court is available in newly built sport complex, It also has an air-conditioned room for yoga.
Tennis – Two standard Tennis courts available for officers. These have been provided with LED lights to play during night hours. A professional coach is available for training the officers.
Cricket and Football – NAIR has a small ground fondly called “Oval” is there which is used for playing Cricket and Football.
Yoga - Sessions are conducted by a personal trainer every morning at 6 am.
MAYUR VATIKA
The Peacock Garden or the Mayur Vatika is home to several peacocks. The dance of these birds, especially during the monsoon, adds to the beauty of the sprawling greenery of NAIR.
JUNGLE WALK
“The woods are lovely, dark and deep.”
The forested path of about a kilometer lies in the lap of nature at NAIR and offers scenic views for morning and evening walks.
HERITAGE
The Pratap Vilas Palace, the main building of the academy is actually the Prince Palace of Gaekwads, the erstwhile rulers of Baroda. The grand live structure is more than 100 years old, and has a unique heritage value in its own. It has many stories to tell, once you start listening to it. Besides this, Heritage Arcade, Model Rooms, Pahune Hostel (once royal stable of Gaekwads), etc. are huge heritage assets. The academy organises heritage workshops, heritage walks and visits for heritage enthusiasts regularly. Training sessions are also conducted to sensitize Officer Trainees.

Rail Vikas Shivir:
NAIR team participated in the built up exercise at Vadodara and final Shivir at New Delhi. Screening of more than 400 ideas generated at NAIR was done and numbers of
ideas were patented. Presentations on different schemes was made during the Rail Vikas Shivir by NAIR team to a distinguished gathering and was well taken.
Training cum Capacity Building Workshop on Environment:
A two day Training cum Capacity Building Workshop on Environment, for a team of 37 participants from IR was organized by NAIR at the Confederation of Indian Industry’s, CII Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre (CII Godrej GBC), Hyderabad on energy, environment & recycling, green buildings, renewable energy and climate change activities. A facility tour was organized and a large number of technologies demonstrated and explained to participants like phytoremediation, vertical green walls, hybrid solar panels, fly ash bricks, construction aspects of the building with maximum utilization of day light, air cooling towers etc.
Steps towards Carbon Neutrality
NAIR is committed towards keeping the campus green. Focus is on energy efficient technologies and reducing carbon footprint. Sustainability is not only a subject in the classrooms but it is also a practice in the academy.
Wind Turbine at ATITHI: This 650 W demo machine generates two units of electricity per day and adds grace to the magnificent building
Rooftop Solar power at CYBRARY : This 10 KWp demo plant generates 50 units electricity per days and reduces heat load of the building.
LED Lights have been retrofitted in all classrooms and hostel common areas. As a result of this, NAIR is able to conserve large amounts of energy and thereby reduce costs. The old badminton court has been provided with induction lights on a pilot basis.
Solar Street Lights: 20 demo models have been installed in the academy at select dark zones. Waterless urinals have been provided in most of the common urinals. Application of this technology alongwith efficient utilization of ground water has enabled NAIR to save large quantities of water sufficient to maintain the large and green campus.
NAIR is committed to enthusiastically participate in the green endeavours of India Railways. Seminars like ENCON, GHG, etc. are conducted on a regular basis. Rainwater harvesting systems have been installed and more such green systems are in the pipeline.
NAIR takes pride in maintaining a litter and plastic free campus. Despite increase in connected load after commissioning of new buildings, electricity consumption has reduced owing to the relentless efforts of the NAIR staff in incorporating green initiatives.
Conservation Efforts:- A composting pit converts large quantity of biomass into compost. Burning of dry biomass is prohibited in the NAIR campus. Installation of a
composting machine is in the pipeline.
A Day in NAIR
Officers at NAIR have multi-dimensional personalities. Several of them are talented painters, photographers, cartoonists and performing art enthusiasts. NAIR not only provides a platform to its officers to showcase their talent, but also helps them improve their skills. Several facilities for music and other performing arts are made available to officers on the NAIR campus.
JAMPUR: This well-equipped jam room on the first floor of Pahune hostel is a meeting hub for music lovers in the academy. Availability of several musical instruments such as guitar, harmonium, drums, keyboard, etc. have inspired several officers to pick up music as a hobby. Music teacher can be arranged on demand.
RANGMANCH:- This dance and drama practice room on the first floor of Pahune hostel has contributed to honing the skills of many budding artists. The NAIR campus, particularly the palace building, offers breathtaking landscapes to those interested in sketching.
SABHAGRIHA: The artists meet the audience here. Several performances and shows have been presented by NAIR officers here.
Movie Club:
Movie club at NAIR managed and run by CTI probationers screens regular movies on weekends in the Sabgraha for the Trainee and Guest Officers at 17:30 hours. Besides this a large number of cultural events are organized in SPS, on completion of course stay at NAIR for the trainee officers besides holding major cultural events at the time of Deepawali, New Year, Uttarayan, Foundation Day etc.
Antakshari Night at NAIR:
NAIR in association with North Indian Cultural Association, Vadodara organized an Antakshari competition in the Sabagraha on 29th July comprising teams of Anjane,Mastane,Deewane and Parwane in different rounds. The same was participated by 12 teams and first prize one by NAIR Team.
A day off in NAIR
Night Runs: Frequent mini-marathons during late evenings are organized in the campus to instill enthusiasm for fitness in both kids and adults alike.
Spiritual Programmes - Artists and experts from institutions such as ISKCON,
Brahmakumaris are invited regularly for sessions on stress management.
Seminars and workshops: Mega events on varied topics such as ENCON, GST, GHG and other capacity building workshops are organised regularly in the academy.
Music events: Musicians in and around Vadodara are invited for delivering performances at NAIR. Workshops are also organized where trainee officers can learn composing hands-on.
Starwatching night camps are organized for probationary officers away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Several wildlife appreciation modules are also organized.
Community events:
The NAIR staff is encouraged to excel in their professional spheres. Their children are also awarded for performing well in academics. NAIR WWO actively contributes towards staff welfare and strengthening of the team spirit among the staff. This helps keep the morale of all staff high.
Shramdaan: Probationary officers actively participate in Shramdaan activities in which they take up cleaning and other area-improvement activities. The Shram Vatika, a small garden on NAIR campus, is the result of such Shramdaan activities.
Events like the Environment Day are enthusiastically celebrated at NAIR.
Bird watching trips are organized to Wadhwana bird sanctuary during winters.
Activities like cycling trips, heritage walks and blood donation camps are also organized regularly. The NAIR campus is therefore always abuzz with activity.

The Vadodara Airport, also known as Civil Airport Harni, is located in Harni suburb around 11 Km from National Academy of Indian Railways. Vadodara is also connected by Air from Delhi, Mumbai, Direct flights from many parts of the country are available for Ahmedabad
which is just 100 km. away. Ahmedabad and Vadodara is well connected by trains and Volvo buses.

The major rail junction in Vadodara is the Vadodara Railway Station. The station is located right in the city center about 6 Km. from National Academy of Indian Railways
