We haven’t done too well of late against our visitors today. Having ‘bounced’ them in 2011/2012 when we got promoted to N2S and they had only just got promoted from SW1West only to be promptly relegated, we have not won once in four games since we resumed hostilities in 2014/2015, the best being a home draw in December 2014. We also note that Old Reds are doing rather well this term, lying second and being the first to inflict defeat on high-flying Camborne. Ironically the only other side to do so we play next week, Bracknell. The only blemishes on their record are an away loss to Hornets in October and a rather inexplicable, if I may be so bold as to make such an observation, away draw against struggling Launceston. With Camborne faltering twice of late in between times, it has got all very tight at the top of the table as can be seen elswhere in your illustrious publication. Perhaps I shouldn’t use the word illustrious, hasn’t she just been towed off to a scrapyard in Turkey? I’ll use the word esteemed instead. Whatever the elements are that make up this game this afternoon they promise to provide an intriguing contest. On the one hand a side with a realistic chance of at least challenging for promotion while on the other, a side who will do their best to dent such ambitions and perhaps even hope to advance their own. Welcome Old Reds and we look forward to our encounter this afternoon.
Nineteen years after Andy Long made his first appearance for England, another product of the Youth & Mini, made his appearance in the Old Mutual Autumn Internationals in the form of Charlie Ewels, now with Bath. He appeared three times from off the bench but we look forward to his first start in the white shirt of England. Mind you he has some stiff oppostion with the likes of Joe Launchbury, George Kruis, a rejuvenated Courtney Lawes and Maro Itoje in the mix.
I must also point out to you the remarkable performance of Ian Moore, this time at scrum-half, is there no limit to this man’s versatility, in kicking all of his goals in the 61-5 triumph over Wimborne in the D&W 3rd XV Cup quarter-final last Saturday.
Our referee today is Charlie Gayther making his second visit to Chapel Gate having been in charge of our game against Bracknell in February of last year. Since then we saw him at Ivybridge in November. The referee adviser is David Rose whom I am sure we have not met before but both are very welcome to Chapel Gate and we hope they enjoy their afternoon with us.
Don’t forget Jo is waiting in the shop for you to buy your Bournemouth Christmas gift for your favourite person.
Last but not least, a warm welcome to all of you out there on the touch line and thank you for supporting us this afternoon. A warm welcome also to our very own Christmas Fairy making his annual appearance in what is, for some us, a nostalgic pose in our old strip.Doug Warren, President.

A Potted History: Established in 1918, Old Redcliffians hail from the south-east outskirts of Bristol, in the suburb of Brislington just up the road from Keynsham. We have now played Old Redcliffians six times in the league, home and away twice in 2011/2012 in National 3 South West, the year we gained promotion to National 2 South and four times over the last two seasons. Having gained promotion from SW1W as runners up to Chippenham 2010/2011, Old Redcliffians have remained in the division since and hence our meeting today. However we do go back further than the league and have met Old Redcliffians twice before in our Easter Festivals of 1980 and 1983. Photographs on the clubhouse wall at Scotland Lane suggest three Old Reds played for Bournemouth in one of those festivals.
The club won the National Intermediate Cup in 2009/2010 and has been in the final of the Senior Somerset Cup on eleven occasions, being victorious three times: 1983/1984, 1984/1985 and 1999/2000.
