Culture.pl provides daily fresh information on the most exciting Polish cultural events worldwide. It is the biggest and most comprehensive source of knowledge about Polish culture – apart from event listings for Poland and beyond, it boasts a wealth of artist bios, reviews, essays, synopses and profiles of cultural institutions. A special sec-tion dedicated to Polish design includes informa-tion about the latest trends, works and projects. For over a decade now, the culture.pl website has been operated by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute – a national cultural institution aiming to streng-then Polish cultural impact and to benefit inter-national cultural exchange.Pursuing its mission, the Adam Mickiewicz Insti-tute has been instrumental in presenting Polish culture at leading galleries, theatres, clubs and festivals in cooperation with key partners: Bozar, La Monnaie, Edinburgh International Festival, Southbank Centre, Barbican Centre, National Theatre, Whitechapel Gallery, London Design Festival, Martin Gropius Bau, Teatro Real, The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Golden Mask Fe-stival, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center and many more. The 4,000 projects carried out by the Institute so far include major cultural events in various countries, among them the Polish Year

in Israel, POLSKA! YEAR in the UK, and the Inter-national Cultural Programme of the Polish EU Presidency. Moreover, the Institute has launched several exciting ongoing projects: a programme promoting Polish design worldwide, the East Eu-ropean Performing Arts Platform, the I, CULTURE Orchestra, Polska Music and Project Asia to name but a few.Worldwide promotion of Polish design and its continuous support is one of the main priorities of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. Our success in the pursuit of this goal has been possible thanks to fruitful cooperation with such renowned partners as Salone Internazionale del Mobile (Milan), Ma-ison&Objet (Paris), Paris Design Week, DW! Sao Paulo Design Weekend, Inno Design Tech Expo (Hong Kong), Business of Design Week (Hong Kong), Istanbul Design Week, International Furni-ture Fair Singapore, Design Trade (Copenhagen), London Design Festival, International Contempo-rary Furniture Fair (NYC), Blueprint Magazine, Icon Magazine, deezen.com and Wallpaper*.

Many objects of daily use remain unappreciated as they are modest, common, and omnipresent. Indeed, their beauty lies in their coherence, au-thenticity and simplicity and their main goal is to stand the test of time. To create such objects is the biggest challenge for a designer. This collec-tion is the result of searching for items that fulfil the needs, without being excessive or bizarre. It features new versions of successful products alongside fresh pieces potential of which has not yet been discovered.

NASZ Collection is an outcome of a research and development project that has worked as a catalyst of the creativity based on the resource-fulness in design. Characteristic for the times of austerity, the resourcefulness, when confronted with the possibilities of contemporary design and advanced and innovative industry, becomes an exceptional design strategy of an invaluable capacity.

NASZ is an exclusive collection of contemporary design that consists of items designed and ma-nufactured in Poland. It is coherent, yet multithre-aded and acts on different levels.

It has been co-created by acclaimed product designers, graphic designers, illustrators, typo-graphers and multimedia artists as well as design students, manufacturers and craftsmen.

NASZ is an umbrella for creative activities. All presented designs are unique and dedicated to this collection. Some of them are modifications of already existing products; meantime others were commissioned especially for this occasion.

Graphic design works that have been conceived for the NASZ Collection contain vivid references to the best Polish visual traditions. The way they are presented seamlessly blends the borders between graphics and products.

We like when the daily objects play the role of discreet, supporting characters, therefore the use of natural materials and finishes and balanced, neutral colours. The collection is visually and ideologically coherent – NASZ design is genuine, resourceful and timeless.

This playful serving set for food and drinks combines two materials and many functions. The porcelain cups and the round wooden boards come both in three different sizes to give endless possibilities of use and arrangment. In various combinations they can be used as individual dishes or as tabletop centrepieces. The porcelain

cups are two sided. When placed up they can be used for drinking as well as for serving dips or other snacks. Placed down they reveal a subtle concavity for a little bit of sauce or spices, that levels with the round trays.

The NASZ App is based on solutions developed by Circus Digitalis and used for CUST digital catalogues. The task of CUST is to represent material objects in virtual reality in detail and in a comprehensive way together with its factual context – a story of the things, ideas, and people who created them.

For NASZ Collection, we have completely modi-fied the narration and navigation of the App. We have also added 2D animations inspired by the formal experiments of Polish creators of animated films of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Cartoon – like animations emphasize the play of shapes and illusions arising from representations of three-dimensional objects on the flat surface of the screen.

Arcs. 6 semicircle arcs made of beechwood. The width of each arc is calculated in such a way that it is half the size of the opposite side. This asym-metry gives each of the arcs a dynamic shape. This concept allows one to create an unlimited amount of both graphical and spatial models.

Rattles. This wooden rattle represents animals in an abstract form. The horizontal circular bar is made and kept in its natural form – that of syca-more wood. This circle together with the cut-out circle within the animal, create a spherical space which encapsulates a beautiful bell. The rattle’s curvature and size are matched to the size of a baby’s hand. Similarly, the ring chime of the bell is also specially chosen for babies’ ears.

For the NASZ Collection Arcs and Rattles are pro-duced in the unique monochromatic versions.

Bugs (a fly, butterfly, spider, ant and caterpillar) are a collection of five toys made out of wooden balls. The main concept of the project was to allow the elements to move, hence the use of magnets. Thanks to the movable parts, kids deve-

lop their creativity; not only can they move the elements and animate bugs but also rearrange them creating new creatures.

Woodturning was the starting point of the pro-ject. The set consists of five figurines inspired by circus characters. The world of circus is a gathering of very interesting, unusual persona-lities from which the designer choose an athlete,

acrobat, clown, dancer and wrestler. With each figurine, the emphasis is on charac-ter and personality, leaving some of it open to interpretation. The set is meant for both children and adults.

Big wooden table designed by Studio Rygalik for the bakery bistro Charlotte Bread & Wine in War-saw provides the every day ritual – the tabletop is lifted and the chairs are replaced with tall stools to change function and atmosphere of the space in the evening. NASZ Common Table is a more refined, product development inspired by this

one-off furniture piece. The principle of operation is purely mechanical and allows one person to lift the tabletop. The steel structure is strong, dura-ble and visually light.

In the long history of porcelain, manufacturers have created a great number of fine china servi-ces which still exist in their classic form and gold rich décor. It is the timelessness in porcelain pro-duction that keeps the traditional esthetics alive as icons of value.

Gloria Dot is an attempt to bring classic material back to the forefront. The aim has been to bring the collection of various traditional forms into a unified group by symbolic décor that acts as a visual bond.

The H2 tables aim at going beyond the well-worn “officey” style conventions. The collection’s cha-racteristic and eye-catching feature is its dainty base inspired by the art of paper folding. It appe-ars to have been cut out entirely of a flat metal sheet and bent in the corners at its square base. The construction principles of the NASZ H2, namely its basic structure, have been adapted from its prototype. The only difference lies in the

flat steel belts that form its framework, which have been replaced with triangular oak elements. Stiffening elements have also been added. The entire construction lost its initial character after changing the material – from a delicate and linear structure to a more architectural one resembling a timber roof truss.

King Lizard is a wooden toy for people aged 7 to 105, inspired by Polish wooden folk toys. The idea was to create a form consisting of movable segments of oak wood connected by rubber sheet for better flexibility. Similar rubber

parts appear inside the lizard’s jaw and under its feet. The toy is pleasant to touch and its flexibility makes it so attractive you will want to hold it in your hands and animate it.

The work presents the result of the cooperation between the graphic designer Jakub Jezierski and the folklore artist Małgorzata Pepłowska. Instead of rustic scenery, so characteristic for double-thread weaving, we see a metropolitan apocalypse. Wilanów town, a place selected not without a reason, is an example of the new Polish

urban space. In the center of the composition is the Temple of Divine Providence: the biggest mo-dern church that arouses various emotions in pe-ople. Who is behind it? Who are they? Which side are they on? These are some of the questions that preoccupy our fellow countrymen.

These compact and light upholstered seats were designed to complete the Rainer Mahlamäki’s architecture of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.

The inspiration for the unconventional forms was the space defined by curved walls penetrating the building. The resulting design is disciplined and geometric, yet organic at the same time. For the NASZ Collection the seats come in NASZ Fabric.

RM NEXT was inspired by two armchairs by Roman Modzelewski, both of them part of Vzór’scollection (RM58 i RM56). Each project representsa different approach towards form and construc-tion. The RM NEXT chair is, in a sense, the succes-sor of these two icons in Polish design. The organic curve of the seat, being a reproduc-tion of the one used in the RM58 armchair, wasdeveloped and based upon the body of the iconic

chair. The legs of RM NEXT echo Roman Modze-lewski’s ingenious concept which he developedwhile working on his RM56 model in 1946. NASZ’smain principles combined with Modzelewski’sbest ideas embodied in RM NEXT resulted in thecreation of a completely novel form that bridgesthe past to the present.

Before the advent of methods of making signs using digital techniques, one of the easiest and useful ways to accomplish the lettering was the use of stencils. Studio Fontarte designing spe-cial typeface for the NASZ Collection appealed to the lettering tradition of the 60s and lettering practices of design and architectural studios. Typeface NASZ Stencil is inspired by vernacular

typography, lettering of Polish road signs and inscriptions which one can perform in a simple way with stencils. The proportions of the type-face were rebalanced to give it a neo-grotesque with a Polish twist. It comes complete with a full upper & lowercase latin character set in Open Type format.

NASZ Twinprints is a textile print design is a digital print on cotton made using Japanese pigment inks. They refer to the tradition of Polish textile print design from the 60’s, transforming them into a modern graphic style also using the recycled fragments of the artist’s earlier illustra-tions. The design is part of Agata Nowicka’s new

project – Twinprints collection, launched as an attempt to revive textile print design in Poland – a branch of interior design largely neglected in Poland after the political system transformation and the collapse of the once-booming Polish textile industry.

Igor took an open-minded approach to mixing experimental cocktails, but it was his ability to translate his passion for cooking into mixology that was most important. Of course, for him it was not just about puttingexotic ingredients into his drinks; it was abo-ut creativity, and the mystery of combiningthose ingredients to make new, intriguing concoctions. His expertise grew along withhis passion, and Igor soon went from po-uring drinks to managing bars. GOOD DESIGN IS TIMELESS. Vzór’s passion for de-sign and its dream of creating a collection based on the Polish classics (including works by promi-nent contemporary artists) were the basis for its foundation. One of its ambitions is to create a si-tuation in which little known products decorating the walls of museums and warehouses, become available for consumers of design and are pro-duced industrially using cutting-edge technology with respect to patent rights and copyright regu-lations. Vzór brand seeks to present its products through the profiles of their designers and not the product itself. The brand debuted in June 2012 by starting production of the classic armchair designed by Roman Modzelewski (RM58). Using the rotational molding technology (for the first time in the Po-

lish furniture industry), they were able to create a 100% replica of the original. The RM 58 model comes in two versions: the matte version with the seat made of polyethylene dyed in the cake, and the classic version with the seat made of poly-ethylene varnished to a high gloss. Vzór brand plans to include other models by Mo-dzelewski in their collection. The RM 56 chair will come in two versions: plywood and plastic. There are also plans to reintroduce the upholstered ver-sion of RM 57. All models are available in several colors. They close the cross-sectional collection designed by Roman Modzelewski and open the collection of Vzór brand.
