Introduction to Personal Fitness Training (IPFT)

About the IPFT course NASM Introduction to Personal Fitness Training (IPFT) serves as an entry point to exploring a career in the Health and Fitness Industry. This course also serves as a pre-requisite to NASM’s Certified Personal Training (CPT) course.

IPFT provides entry onto the REPs at Level 2.

What will the IPFT course include?The IPFT is a world class vocational course that provides expert instruction on the fundamentals of fitness training and an introduction to students wanting to work in the Fitness Industry.

The IPFT course features:

Core concepts in flexibility, stabilisation and • resistance training. Cardiorespiratory and overall wellness, weight • control and lifestyle modification. What to expect when getting started as a • Certified Personal Trainer (please note the IPFT will not qualify you as a Personal Trainer).What it takes to become a successful Health & • Fitness Professional.

How is the IPFT course delivered?IPFT is delivered through a combination of work book, e-learning and workshops over a three month period. The course materials are comprised of an IPFT Manual and online learning tools.

On-line e-learningDesigned with convenience in mind, the IPFT course is delivered online and includes in-depth flash presentations, video exercise demonstrations, anatomical and conditioning photos, training technique charts, safety illustrations and printable course materials. The course experience is further enhanced through the NASM eLearning Center which offers the ability to take quizzes and exams online. Students will also receive an IPFT manual and online learning to prepare them for the Active IQ assessment.

Practical course supportIt is recommended that this distance learning course is supported by 3 days (24 hours of practical application workshops).

Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)

About the CPT course The NASM® Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) follows the IPFT and qualifies students with a REPS Level 3 Qualification for the health and fitness industry recognised by the UK Register of Exercise Professionals. A minimum of a UK Register of Exercise Professionals Level 2 Qualification/Award, such as the IPFT, must be achieved before applying for this course.

Many courses teach exercise science to Personal Trainers whereas the NASM CPT not only teaches the science, but the correct application of the science.

What will the CPT course include?The client is at the heart of everything associated with the CPT course and students will qualify with the right tools to deliver cutting edge exercise programmes.

We believe that a good exercise programme starts with a good assessment. Personal Trainers with certified assessment skills have the ability to write progressive, enjoyable exercise programmes that deliver results. Using the evidence based Optimum Performance TrainingTM (OPTTM) model from NASM, students will learn how to accelerate every client towards any goal. With these skills, students will become a qualified solutions expert that clients will come back to time and time again.

How is the CPT course delivered?CPT is delivered through a combination of work book, e-learning and workshops over a three month period.

Designed with convenience in mind, the CPT course is delivered through a CPT manual and DVD set, as well as through the NASM online learning centre which houses learning material that can be downloaded to an iPod, and an online exam for students to obtain their NASM CPT certificate.

Practical course supportIt is recommended that this distance learning course is supported by 4 days (32 hours of practical application workshops).

Leading to the Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training and NASM CPT.

Re-certificationTo support NASM’s commitment to protect health and safety, the NASM CPT credential must be recertified every two (2) years. This ensures that NASM CPT professionals are current with the best-practice guidelines and the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities described in the most recent Job Analysis Study.

How do I recertify?To recertify a candidate must complete a total of 2.0 NASM-approved continued education courses such as CES/PES or sit the recertification exam and submit to AIQ with the recertification fee.

Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES)

About the CES course On successful completion of CPT there is the option for continued personal development within a specialist area. The two CPD courses available are the NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) or the NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES).

The NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM CES) was developed in response to the growing need for professionals with the ability to assist clients experiencing musculoskeletal impairments, muscle imbalances or rehabilitation concerns. The CES provides the advanced knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully work with clients suffering from musculoskeletal impairments, imbalances or post-rehabilitation concerns.

What will the CES course include?With eleven modules of information on important corrective exercise topics such as movement assessments, inhibitory techniques, muscle activation techniques and common musculoskeletal impairments, the CES personal training program arms professionals with the most innovative education tools and techniques for optimal results.

How is the CES course delivered?CES is delivered online for your convenience with workshops days for course support.

Practical course supportIt is recommended that this distance learning course is supported by 2 days ( 16 hours of practical application workshops.)

Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES)

About the PES course An elite training program for fitness and enhanced athletic performance, the NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM PES) is designed for athletic trainers, chiropractors, physical therapists, coaches and other sports professionals who want to work with players at all levels, from secondary education and university tier, to professional and Olympic level athletes.

What will the PES course include?The PES course gives professionals the ability to learn cutting-edge performance assessment techniques and sport-specific program design. It also includes scientifically-valid, evidence-based applications which achieve remarkable results with top professionals and weekend warriors alike. Human movement science such as postural considerations, the elements of an integrated performance profile and assessment, integrated program design, and nutrition are all core concepts covered within the course

How is the PES course delivered?The PES course is delivered distance study with a combination of online learning, study guide, manual and workshops days. This course can also be downloaded to iPod.

Practical course supportIt is recommended that this distance learning course is supported by 2 days (16 hours of practical application workshops.)

About the CPT Bridging Course The NASM CPT Bridging Course has been developed as an up-skill for those already qualified as Level 3 personal trainers who are looking to discover the power behind NASM’s Optimum Performance Training (OPT™) Model. OPT™ virtually eliminates programming and program design guesswork for any fitness, sports performance, or sports medicine professional, and provides undisputed results specific to individual needs and goals.

What will the CPT Bridging Course include?Using the evidence-based OPT™ model, students will learn how to accelerate every client towards any goal. With these skills, students will become a qualified solutions-expert that clients will come back to time and time again.

The CPT Bridging course covers the following objectives:

Introduction to the NASM OPT™ Model• Integrated Assessment• Principles of Flexibility Training• Principles of Core/Balance/Reactive/SAQ • TrainingPrinciples of Resistance Training• Fundamentals of OPT™ Program Design •

How is the CPT Bridging Course delivered?The course is delivered over 2 days via an interactive workshop that will allow trainers to understand the highly-acclaimed, evidence-based approach that is Optimum Performance Training.

At the centre of the OPT™ method is a thorough kinetic chain assessment, and during the workshops, students will have the opportunity to explore the head-to-toe fitness assessment that is the ‘Overhead Squat’ – a systematic approach that evaluates an individual’s strengths and weaknesses in the areas of posture, movement, strength, and flexibility. The outcomes of assessment can then be used to design highly effective, periodised programmes through systematic application of flexibility, core, balance, reactive, SAQ and resistance training techniques.

Workshops are supplemented with study via the NASM online learning centre, where students will have access to presentations, quizzes and practice exams.
