Lansdown Road Cheltenham

Nash Partnership were successful in a bid to design a new housing scheme of 80 to 100 houses on the current police site located in a conservation area off Lansdown Road in Cheltenham. Working with the Council’s Urban Design Panel and Conservation Officer we developed a scheme based on the Council’s concept plan for the site that continued the historic building frontage of the street with terraces behind opening out to a south-facing open space. The house designs were developed from the concept plan and responded to the specific site views and orientation.

The American Museum Bath

Claverton Manor is a considerable Grade I listed mansion designed by Jeffry Wyattville between 1819 and 1820.

The conversion of the original coach house and stable building to provide two new lecture spaces, a room for school groups, WCs and additional storage allows the museum to host lectures, films, exhibition-related workshops, university courses and have a space for temporary exhibitions. It also allows the Museum to make a space available to community groups, and for event rentals.

88 High Street Marshfield

This new home is located on a narrow enclosed site and has a unique plan, with an internal courtyard designed to increase the amount of natural daylight within the dwelling.

The house includes a range of environmental and sustainable features such as: rainwater recycling; a whole house ventilation system; an efficient boiler combined with under floor heating and passive solar hot water heating. The south elevation also contains a louvre system to aid the solar shading of the large sliding glazed doors to the garden.

Orchard House Wiltshire

Our clients, a couple with a young family, purchased a very ordinary house of the 1970’s set within a large walled garden built originally as a kitchen garden for a nearby manor house. They were attracted to the site by the belief that its very attractive landscape setting warranted a new larger purpose built design and they sought an architect to help them fulfil their ambitions.

Orchard House was shortlisted for a Wood Award in 2006 in the category of private house.

25 Castle Terrace Berwick upon Tweed

A new contemporary house that replaced a 1930’s dwelling that took no advantage of the southerly aspect and panoramic views over the River Tweed and the Royal Border Bridge.

Large glazed screens on the ground floor open out onto the garden and external courtyard kitchen sheltered by the building. The central staircase and glazed landing provide multiple opportunities for view of the garden and distant landscape as one moves from the bedrooms to the bathrooms and between the livings areas on the ground floor.

The new house is externally insulated and rendered to maximise thermal efficiency, and will have a natural infinity swimming pond in the rear garden.

Grand Parade and Undercroft, Bath

The regeneration of riverside vaults overlooking Great Pulteney Bridge and Weir in the centre of Bath. The project offers a challenging mix of significant 1 in 200 year flood events and accommodating the requirements of building under a bridge structure that supports the highway in front of The Empire.

Westley Richards Birmingham

The relocation of the famous sporting gun manufacturers, Westley Richards, to a new site within the Birmingham Gun Quarter; resulted from the compulsory purchase of their existing historic building for a new road scheme.

By combining a new build factory with restored and converted 19th century brick warehouses, we are creating a working and visitor environment appropriate for a firm whose work depends wholly on highly skilled and visually refined craft-workmanship for a global market.

Eardington Mill Shropshire

Part of ongoing work to a historic Mill near Bridgenorth, Shropshire. Part demolition and extension of a single large kitchen/reception space that overlooks the part-ruined walls of the old mill that now form a sheltered courtyard garden.

Working closely with Mann Williams structural engineers we have constructed the new extension on piled foundations to avoid disturbance to the old retaining structural and foundation of the mill. Demolition work has uncovered a number of partially filled rooms below ground that have required careful integration.

Felgate Mews West London

A new purpose-built £3m factory for gun and rifle manufacturer James Purdey & Sons, currently owned by the Richemont group whose other brands include Cartier, Montblanc, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Chloe.

Located between their Mayfair showroom and the West London Shooting Grounds, the site in West London is ideally suited. Although occupying the site for some thirty years, the existing buildings had little architectural qualities, poor lighting and inadequate security.

Batcombe Farm Somerset

Designed to have a strongly enhanced sustainability profile this new single-storey dwelling uses the key design principals of orientation, massing and material selection to deliver these credentials without resorting to expensive ‘widgets and gadgets’.

The structure is formed by a green oak frame, built off an in situ concrete wall in the natural slope of the ground. The high thermal mass of this structure helps even out temperature fluctuations and is supported by a whole-house ventilation system and a ground source heat pump delivering additional heat via low temperature underfloor heating which can be boosted by wood burning stoves in the larger family room and kitchen/diner.
