Term 2 Week 6 NAROOMA PUBLIC SCHOOL 4 June, 2019

National Simultaneous Story Time

National Simultaneous Story time was a huge success once again!

The children all enjoyed the reading of the book which was wonderfully delivered by Mr Neville. He truly made this book come to life. You may even see a photo of Mr Neville and Mrs Garcia on our Facebook site.

Thank you once again to Mr Neville for organising this event.

Debating at Narooma PS

Yesterday, our school’s team of debaters and Mrs Cross conducted a workshop in our school library where our team learnt many skills and tips to assist them in future debates.

The children that attended this workshop are:

Jesse Doull, Harmony Cannon, Claire Ovington, Eve Ratcliffe, Lilli Herman, Lacey Rowland, Ruben Smithers, Noel Booth, Marli Clark, Jack Close and Hunter McDonald.

Semester One Reports

Currently, teachers are busy compiling the Semester 1 reports for their classes. These reports will continue to report upon the continuums outlined in the National Curriculum as well as provide families with the NSW State Government’s requirement for a five point scale.

The school is aiming to hand out reports on Thursday July 4 to children on the second last day of this term.

Fingers crossed for a smooth printing process!

School Times.

We have noticed an increase with the number of children coming to school late each day. It is vitally important that all children arrive at school on time as lessons start promptly.

Children late to school miss out on vital information and direction from the teacher and they start each morning behind their classmates. They then need to play catch up which isn’t ideal.

I thank everyone for your anticipated co-operation with this issue.

Thank you,

Paul Sweeney Principal

Premier's Debating Challenge On Monday, Narooma Public School hosted a Debating Gala day as a part of the Premier's Debating Challenge.

A dedicated team of Stage 3 students competed in three debates against Bodalla, Batemans Bay and each other. These students have given up their lunchtimes and worked extremely hard to learn

new skills in debating, so it was very pleasing to see them debate with confidence, learn from the professional adjudicator's feedback and truly enjoy the day.

Congratulations to the following students who were either a part of our two teams, took on important roles as chairperson or timer or simply came along to support the teams and learn: Jesse Doull, Harmony Cannon, Claire Ovington, Eve Ratcliffe, Lilli Herman, Lacey Rowland, Ruben Smithers, Noel Booth, Marli Clark, Jack Close and Hunter McDonald. Both teams won against Bodalla and Batemans Bay on the day and debated strongly against each other with a narrow victory by Narooma Blue. Well done everyone!

PAUL KELLY CUP On Friday 31st May, 15 boys travelled to Moruya to compete in the next

round of the Paul Kelly Cup, competing against schools from around the

South Coast.

The boys played a total of 3 games. Playing Merimbula PS in the first round,

the boys played strongly, coming away with a win 5-2-32 to 0-1-1. In round 2,

they faced Batemans Bay PS. With fantastic teamwork and some great

marks, the boys won convincingly, 8-6-54 to 0.

In the 3rd round of the day, they faced their toughest competitors yet, Milton

PS. It was a really tightly contested game. Milton were fierce competition and

they came away with the win 4-6-30 to 3-0-18. Unfortunately the boys didn’t make the final but played all games with great teamwork

and showed outstanding skills.

A huge thank you to Dean Friskin for coaching the boys and to all of the parents for your support on the day; we appreciate you!

Up To Date Student Details

Don’t forget to update your child’s details with the school if you :

Have moved and changed address

Have changed phone numbers, email addresses etc

Need to update your child’s medical conditions

Big Changes to P & C Succession planning is underway at P&C as many of the committee are due to retire this year. We need people to step up now to begin a change over.

Our Uniform shop at school has proved very popular over the last few years, it has kept prices way below commercial rates. We are proud of being able to offer this service to the families of our school. We need new people to run the Uniform Shop. If you or a group of friends would like to step up to this role, please contact us so we can begin the change over this term.

All other aspects of P&C also need new people. Without our P&C we wouldn’t have our discos, Mothers and Fathers Day stalls or vital money injected into our school. It is a very relaxed and friendly organisation, a great way to meet new people and show your kids you are committed to their school.

Please think about joining to take up positions. Many hands make light work!

You can leave your details with the office or call Rachael for more information 0404 065 028.

Wednesday: 9.00-9.30am

Thursday: 9.00-9.30am
