What is Narcissistic Personality
Disorder? Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in
which people have an inflated sense of their own
importance and a deep need for admiration. Those with
narcissistic personality disorder believe that they're
superior to others and have little regard for other
people's feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-
confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the
slightest criticism.
In other words They are amazing and gods gift to the
planet earth. And god help you if you argue that fact.
What is NPD cont. Feels grandiose and self-important.
Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success.
Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special.
Requires excessive admiration.
Feels entitled.
Is "interpersonally exploitative”.
Devoid of empathy.
Behaves arrogantly and haughtily.
Constantly envious of others and seeks to hurt or destroy the
objects of his or her frustration.
Behaves arrogantly and haughtily.
What I want to know.
What are the effects of a NPD on the
people around them, family, friends,
Sexual Partners, and Co Workers. Is it
possible to have a normal “relationship”
with someone suffering from NPD?
Nature Vs. Nurture
Psychologists have traced NPD to early infantile
neglect or abuse, and some blame over-indulgence
and indiscriminate praise by parents who don't set
limits on what's acceptable from their children.
“Perhaps they were born to parents unable to connect
emotionally and, thus, as infants learned not to let
another person be essential to them in any way.
Maybe it comes from a childhood environment of
being treated like royalty or little gods.. ”
+Nurture “Adult narcissists can be as demanding of your time and
energy as little babies but without the gratification of their
growing or learning anything from what they suck from
you. Babies love you back, but adult narcissists are like
vampires: they will take all you can give while giving
nothing back, then curse you for running dry and discard
you as a waste of their precious time.”
-Joanna M. Ashmun
I was unable to find any support for individuals being born
with NPD, it seems to be something you learn from how
you are treated as a child. And causes you to be unable to
mature form life sucking babies.
.
NPD's effect on Family, NPD harms all members of the family; parent,
children, brothers and sisters.
Parents= the Child suffering from NPD never leaves
an infantile mind set where “If I don’t get what I
want I will cry and have a fit” and will be like that for
life and can cause the family to have emo. Distress
Siblings= Siblings can be abused verbally and
physically, making them feel like they are unworthy
to be related to them and like arn't as important.
Effects on Partners.
Manipulation, you will be treated like
they actually love you when they want
something. But once they get it you are
once again insignificant
You arn't really in a relationship it'll be
one sided, You love them they don’t
give a damn about you. They can only
really love themselves.
Partners Cont.
Physical & Verbal abuse; remember your not a
person your a thing to a Narcissist.
Marital rape can happen when your in a
relationship with a Narcissist, even tho its not a
dominance play but more of a “I want sex, and
I want it right now I don't care if you don’t”
The narcissist abuses the victim verbally,
mentally, or physically.
Effects on people in general. Receiving no “Thanks” for anything done
for a Narcissist, because of course they
deserve it cause they are amazing and you
are only there to serve them.
They consider themselves way 'ahead' in
thought, efficiency or performance than
you.
They will show off and boast any sort of
achivement they have accomplished and
rub it in your face.
Can you have a real Relationship
with someone suffering from NPD? No, it would be to emotionally draining and it
would consume all your time and energy to
keep them happy, and keep them in a
relationship with you. Narcissists have a
extremely high emotional upkeep that not
many people have the fortitude to keep up
with. You could have some kind of
relationship but it wouldn’t be real.
Possible Treatment?
Narcissistic Personality Disorder often manifests as
serious problems within the family or workplace. In
these cases, an intensive treatment program..
A Narcissist will not go into treatment freely and it
is normally under insistence from Bosses/
concerned family members.
Psychotherapy would be used to explore the need
to be “Perfect” and find further treatment from
there.
Final Word, What to expect from a
someone with NPD. If you get attached you may get used and abused.
If they believe they can get something from you
they will treat you like a human being and
manipulate the hell out of you, once they get it or
decide you are useless the relationship could turn
abusive or just abruptly end.
If it is a family member that has NPD if you feel
sympathetic be warned they will use this to their
advantage to get what THEY want.
Facts
Only 1% of the American pop. Suffers from NPD.
The word "narcissism" stems from Greek
mythological character Narcissus who was obsessed
with his own beauty to the point that he did not think
that any of his female suitors were worthy of him. In
the story he was forced to look at his reflection in a
pool and he did for so long that he eventually
withered away and died.
Seen more in men then the women.
Found in 17% of first-year medical students
Video I wanted to show but
couldn’t get it to work, The video is of this guy just sitting in a sound booth singing about how
hes a narcissist and its funny as hell and actually makes sense. If your
curious you should really go check it out on YouTube,
Here are some of the lyrics,
I hide I can not relate
I put on a face and I shut the gate.
I wont confide. I can not debate.
I wont decide. I procrastinate.
You cant reach my soul.
It's down a deep dark hole
and if you love me too well,
I'll make your life hell.
