NANNUP DHS 2021 ANZAC SERVICE
ANZAC Day Our ANZAC service was held last Friday morning. The service was run by our student councillors. Members of the RSL attended and Vicki Hansen, RSL Secretary addressed the assembly. Our thanks to Mrs Wintergreene, and the school choir and Mr Parkinson, who supported Isobel to play The Last Post. A BIG THANK YOU to Kerry Dunnet for making the beautiful wreath for our ANZAC service. This has been ongoing from Kerry for a number of years and is very much appreciated. Jane Harris-Brown
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents & Care Givers, It is an absolute pleasure and privilege to be in the role of Principal of Nannup District High School and to be working with such confident, competent and committed professionals. I sincerely appreciate the warm welcome I have been extended and look forward with great anticipation to working with staff over the course of this year and years to come. Attendance A great deal of learning takes place each day that a student attends school, socially, emotionally and academically; therefore, days missed can see a student fall behind rapidly academically, and also creates the potential for social displacement. Please work with us and make a concerted effort to ensure your children are attending school each day, and see the value in such attendance. This will ensure they are being provided with the best possible learning opportunities, regardless of ability or style of learning. NAPLAN In week 4 & 5, students from Year 3, 5, 7 & 9 will participate in the National Assessment Program- Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). NAPLAN is a nationwide measure through which parents, teachers, schools, education authorities, governments and the broader community can determine whether or not young Australians are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community. NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents to see how their child is progressing against national standards in literacy and numeracy and over time. (ACARA, https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan, 2016). At Nannup DHS, students participating in NAPLAN this year have undertaken practice tests to ensure students are familiar with the NAPLAN online test platform and the styles of questions they may encounter. A timetable of when your child/ren will be completing the various assessments will be sent home in the coming week.
On WEDNESDAY 28 APRIL we are asking staff and students to wear YELLOW or RED to show their support for Autism Acceptance. April is Autism Awareness Month, but we should aim to do more than just be aware, we encourage everyone to accept differences and to embrace our Autistic community members with kindness and acceptance. Mrs Lia Szalma
GRIP STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE HELD IN BUNBURY 22 APRIL Our student councillors attended the GRIP Leadership conference last Thursday. A one day event that offers hands-on practical advice to equip school leaders with skills and ideas to make a significant contribution to their school community. Feedback from the student councillors was positive, the day was very enjoyable and they learnt a lot about leadership to bring back to the school.
Our thanks go to Bella R, Year 10 and Jaimee Lee K, Year 9 (student councillors) who attended the town ANZAC service on Sunday. Both girls laid a wreath on behalf of NDHS community. This was Carranya’s (the horse) last parade and the school would like to acknowledge the Waddington family for their past support of Nannup DHS.
