Namma Kovai Namakke
A collaborative campaign to bring together
Kovai citizens together to temporarily
erase cars from our streets and instead
fill them with smiles.
Coimbatore’s population is increasing rapidly over the years
Why Coimbatore ?
Dwindling open spaces
Even in neighbourhoods with good parks, walkers and joggers brush each other while walking
Inactive and unhealthy lifestyle
According to The Hindu, “Obesity is setting in earlier than the adolescence phase for our children.”
With crippling traffic jams,
increased air pollution,more road deaths
Our streets, one of our biggest assets, have now been invaded by cars.
What?This initiative reroutes
traffic temporarily from
certain roads in the city for
a few hours every Sunday
morning and transforms
them to vibrant public
spaces for free.
