Chart 1: The Composite Index of Building Plans Com-pleted

• The Composite Index of Building Plans Completed (Windhoek,

Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Ongwediva) for February 2020 rec-orded 113.4 basis points, up by 40.1 and 57.6 basis points when com-pared with the preceding month and February 2019, respectively.

• The increase recorded on the monthly basis and over the year were mainly reflected in the nominal value of completed buildings for Wind-hoek and Walvis Bay, respectively.

• The nominal value of the Building Plans Completed during the month of February 2020 amounted to N$ 137.6 million as compared to N$ 89.0 million recorded in the previous month. While, the value of Build-ing Plans Completed for February 2019 stood at N$ 67.7 million.

Chart 2: Building Plans Completed Index for Windhoek

• In Windhoek, the Building Plans Completed Index posted 257.0 basis

points in February 2020 up by 203.6 and 167.9 basis points recorded in the previous month and February 2019, respectively.

• The increases recorded when compared to the preceding month and over the year were mainly reflected in the nominal value recorded for public institutions and residential units of building plans completed, re-spectively.

• The nominal value of Building Plans Completed in Windhoek was N$

99.2 million in February 2020 compared to N$ 20.6 million and N$ 34.4 million recorded for January 2020 and in the corresponding month of 2019, respectively.

• In Walvis Bay, the Building Plans Completed Index stood at 46.8 basis

points in February 2020 up by 2.9 and 6.5 basis points recorded in the previous month and February 2019, respectively.

• The increase recorded when compared to the preceding year was mainly reflected in the nominal value recorded for new residential units of building plans completed.

• The nominal value of Building Plans Completed in Walvis Bay during

the month of February 2020 amounted to N$ 17.7 million compared to N$ 16.6 million and N$ 15.2 million recorded for January 2020 and in the corresponding month of 2019, respectively.

Chart 4: Building Plans Completed Index for Ongwe- diva

• In Ongwediva, the Building Plans Completed Index posted 9.4 basis points in February 2020 down by 1.3 and 0.7 basis points from the pre-vious month and February 2019, respectively.

• The declines recorded when compared to the preceding month and over the year were mainly reflected in the nominal value of the addi-tions and alterations done for residential units of building plans com-pleted, respectively.

• The nominal value of Building Plans Completed in Ongwediva stood

at N$ 0.6 million in February 2020 compared to N$ 0.7 million and N$ 0.7 million recorded for January 2020 and in the corresponding month of 2019, respectively.

• In Swakopmund, the Building Plans Completed Index posted 52.5 basis points in February 2020 down by 81.0 and up by 7.0 basis points, reg-istered for the previous month and February 2019, respectively.

• The decline recorded when compared to the preceding month was mainly reflected in the nominal value for residential units of buildings plans completed, while the increase recorded when compared on an-nual basis was mainly reflected in the nominal value of additions and alterations done for the residential building plans completed.

• The nominal value of Building Plans Completed in Swakopmund during the period under review was N$ 20.1 million compared to N$ 51.1 mil-lion and N$ 17.4 million recorded for January 2020 and in the corre-sponding month of 2019, respectively.

Methodology

Data Sources: Selected local authorities from the following town councils:

Base year: 2015. The values has been referenced to 2015 data as from November 2019.

Calculations of index: The NSA monitors the value and number of building plans completed for 24 local authorities on a monthly basis. Four of these towns that accounted for 70.3 percent of the total value of all buildings plans completed in 2015 have been selected for the index compila-tion.

Conversion: 1 basis point = 0.01 percent
