Vijay Mallya is one of the most renowned Indian business persons in the world.

Vijay Mallya came into this world on 18th Dec,1955.

He was born in a BRAHMIN Family from the town called Bantwal (near Mangalore) in Karnataka.

He was, initiated into business at the age of 27.

Vijay Mallya also has a very active persona.

Vijay Mallya is an Indian Liquor Baron and Rajya Sabha MP. 

The son of industrialist Vittal Mallya, he is the Chairman of the United Breweries Group and KingfisherAirlines, which draws its name from United Breweries Group's flagship beer brand, Kingfisher.

He also owns the Formula One team Force India, 

the Indian Premier League team Bangalore Royal Challengers, and the I-League team East Bengal FC andMohun Bagan AC

According to Forbes.com, as of March 2010, Mallya is worth US $1 billion.]He is ranked 937 in The ForbesWorld Billionaires Ranking (2010).

VIJAY MALAYA TOOK PART IN BUSINESS AT THE AGE OF 27.

United Breweries Group in 1984 from his father Vittal Mallya

. Since then, the group has grown into a multi-national conglomerate of over sixty companies, with anannual turnover which increased by 63.9% over 15 years to US$11.2 billion in 1998-1999 .

The focal business areas of the group encompass alcoholic beverages, life sciences, engineering, agriculture, chemicals, information technology, aviation and leisure. 

In May 2007, United Breweries Group announced the all-cash acquisition of scotch whisky maker Whyte &Mackay for £595 million (approximately Rs 6000 crore). In 2005 he took over Millennium Breweries Ltd(formerly known as Inertia Industries Ltd), which owned the two premium beer brands named SANDPIPERAND ZINGARO.

Airlines 

In 2006, Mallya established Kingfisher Airlines. 

At present, the airline connects 32 cities.

Kingfisher Airlines obtained a 26% stake in Air Deccan, a low cost Indian airline which Mallya lateracquired fully and rebranded as Kingfishers Red. Vijay Mallya and his Jet Airways counterpart NareshGoyal announced an alliance after a marathon meeting on 13 October 2008 at Mumbai, India.

He is the son of Vittal Mallya and Lalitha Ramesh.

Mallya married twice so far. His first wife was Sameera and they have a son tog ether, named Sidhartha

Vijay Mallya.

BUT later on he married Rekha and had two daughters, Tanya and Leana and also had a son. Although

Rekha lives in USA, he goes there to meet her.

He spent his childhood with his mother Lalitha Ramaiah in Calcutta.

Intelligence runs in his family and his grandfather was a doctor in the Indian army.

He has also adopted his stepdaughter Laila Mahmood who is his wife Rekha’s daughter from her prior 

marriage.

In 1983, Mallya took over as Chairman of the United Breweries Group. Under his leadership the group has

expanded significantly to turn into a multi billion dollar conglomerate. His group is engaged in several

business activities like alcoholic beverages, life sciences, engineering, agriculture, chemicals, information

technology, aviation and leisure.

In 2005 he acquired Millennium Breweries Ltd which brought the two premium beer brands namedSandpiper and Zingaro under his kitty. In May 2007, United Breweries Group acquired the Scotch whiskymaker Whyte & Mackay for 595 million pounds in an all cash deal.

Vijay Mallya formed Kingfisher Airlines in the year 2005. Mallya`s Kingfisher airlines acquired AirDeccan, a low cost Indian airline which was subsequently integrated into his Kingfisher fleet, Vijay Mallya and his Jet Airways counterpart Naresh Goyal joined hands together after a marathon meeting on 13thOctober 2008 at Mumbai, India. The alliance will include code-sharing on both domestic and internationalflights, joint fuel management to reduce expenses, common ground handling, and joint utilisation of crewand sharing of similar frequent flier programme.

Mallya is fond of sports. Mallya co-owns F1 racing team Spyker which he later reframed as Force India. Hebought the Spyker F1 team for 88 million euros. Mallya`s flagship firm UB Group bought the RoyalChallengers Bangalore team in the Indian Premier League for USD 111.6 million. The Royal ChallengersBangalore team includes players like Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Jacques Kallis, Shivnarine Chanderpaul,Zaheer Khan, Mark Boucher, Sunil Joshi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Ross Taylor, Dale Steyn & recently added KevinPietersen in the squad.

VIJAY MALLYA’S STATEMENT: 

“When I took over UB after my father died, I was a youngster. I lived like a youngster - I liked fast cars; Iliked to go to horse races, etc. I did things which other people never did; they were lot more conservative sowhole press campaigns started about me being a playboy, partying too much, etc. and that I would drive UBbankrupt. As a result, the banks got very nervous so UB could not access funds very easily, it became a bigproblem. I tried to be as convincing as I could but the bottom line is that the company performance spoke for

itself. As much as the media used to bash me and try to put me down as a playboy, the company’sperformance kept growing better and better. Ultimately performance counts, so that is where I have beenfocusing.” 

PROBLEM OF KINGFISHER AIRLINES:

A-380s are not only going to land but the Airport authority of India has actually built five dedicated parkingspaces for A-380s, two in Mumbai, three in Delhi which are going to be ready by June 06. I have applied forall the five parking spaces, I have five 380s. Ours is the only Indian airline that has ordered A380s and now I

don.t have parking problems also.

SOCIETIAL CONTRIBUTION:~

Establishment of Mallya Hospital in Bangalore. The hospital is located on Vittal Mallya Road, named afterhis father.

Helped to fund the Mallya Aditi International School, a private school in Bangalore.

Vijay Mallya is noted for his successful bidding in auction of items that are considered of great historicalvalue to India.

In 2004, he placed the winning bid of £175,000 for the sword of  Tipu Sultan at an auction in London, andbrought it back to India.

In March 2009, Mallya successfully bid for the belongings of  Mahatma Gandhi at US$1.8 million, in a New

York auction.
