Psalm 125:2 October 2014 Praises: Safe travels to Italy “Little victories” already A good teacher Prayer Requests: Adjustment to the culture Ross’s graduate studies Opportunities to meet people in our town Wow! Are we really here? As this runs through our minds, we just want to thank you for all of your prayers. Ross and I cannot express to you what a blessing it has been to us as we have gone through these past couple months to know what a prayer support we have. We apologize that we did not get a newsletter out at the end of September. We had intended to, but so much kept changing, we decided to wait until we had more definite information. Well, we are here. We have started our language class and are getting settled in our apartment. We are slowly learning our way around. Of course that is taking a little longer than a normal move would. We are trying to learn signs and figure out what stores are and what the items are in the stores. It is actually mentally draining right now to go shopping because we still have to work to understand labels. We are getting settled, it will just take us a little longer with all that is so different to us. With all the challenges, the reward and satisfaction that comes with accomplishing a task is even more gratifying. A few days after we moved into our apartment, we headed to stay with the missionaries for church. We have to take a train to get to their town, about an hour away. Ross and I found the train station all on our own, without getting lost (thanks to Ross), bought our ticket, found the right train and arrived successfully. That was such an encouraging feeling. We have also accomplished a few everyday tasks, such as grocery shopping and using the washing machine. It is these little victories, if you will, that are helping us ease into a new culture with very minimal comprehension of the language. We are starting to feel like we have gotten through jet lag. We had so much happen right away that it took us a little longer to recover, but we are starting to feel settled and have more energy. We hope to explore even more of our town in the coming weeks. We also want to share with you that Ross has been accepted into the graduate program at Johnson University! He is pursuing an M.A. in Intercultural Studies with a concentration in Christian Education. He started his first course shortly after our arrival. I know he would appreciate your prayers as he works toward this academic goal. He has hoped to pursue his Master’s since before we were married, so we are very excited about this opportunity for him! We look forward to sharing even more about Italy, our schooling, and of course even more pictures over the coming months. Thank you for your prayers and support. This year would not be possible without you all! With love, Megan and Ross We want to apologize that we have not been able to get October’s newsletter out to you sooner! We have been having some difficulties. In order to get it out to you we have to wait to include pictures and we are only sending one page this time. It might look a little different! We found out that the pictures we had included were part of the problem. We are hoping to figure out a way we can still include pictures and hope to include them in future newsletters. For now, we wanted to get the newsletter out to you. We will be posting pictures on our Facebook pages in the meantime. If you have Facebook, feel free to contact us there or just glance at the pictures! Here is our profile name on Facebook: Ross Megan ItalyForChrist October’s Newsletter We are in Italy! If you would like to meet with us in person or have us speak at your church, Sunday School class, small group, or any other venue - please let us know. We would love to plan a time to see you when we are back in the states! We have started our language class. Right now our class is small, so we only meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have 1 other classmate and we are at different levels of Italian, so we feel for our teacher who is trying to balance our individual needs and meet each of us at our level. We think she is doing a good job, though! Our teacher is Valentina and we really like her and her teaching style. Even though learning a whole new language is difficult and challenging, she has definitely made it fun. She is very willing to take the extra time to make sure that we fully understand what we are learning. She is making sure that we are learning about the culture as well. As we discuss Italian culture she asks us about American culture so that we can compare our cultures and find where there are differences. Valentina is trying to make sure we understand those differences so that we can better understand Italians. It has been wonderful to be able to not only learn the language, but also learn about their culture. We are so glad to be here soaking it all in and I know that Valentina will be such a help to us in learning the language! Our Language Class

We would love to plan a time to see you when we are back in the states!

We have started our language class. Right now our class is small, so we only

meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have 1 other classmate

and we are at different levels of Italian, so we feel for our teacher who is trying to balance our individual needs and meet each of us at our level. We think she is

doing a good job, though! Our teacher is Valentina and we really like her and her teaching style. Even though learning a

time to make sure that we fully understand what we are learning. She is making sure that we are learning about the culture as well. As we discuss Italian

culture she asks us about American culture so that we can compare our cultures and find where there are

differences. Valentina is trying to make sure we understand those differences so that we can better understand Italians. It has been wonderful to be able to not only learn the language, but also learn about their culture. We are so glad to be here
