ISO certification and NABL AccreditationISO certification and NABL AccreditationISO certification and NABL AccreditationISO certification and NABL Accreditation
• ISO certification emphasizes upon verification of proper documentation i.e. Quality System Management ; NABL accreditation additionally evaluates technical competence!
• Laboratories can be checked and certified for their compliance to international management system standards such as ISO 9001. This involves the auditing of an organization’s quality management system
• Accreditation is a higher level recognition than system certification.
• Laboratory accreditation is a procedure by which an authoritative body accords formal • Laboratory accreditation is a procedure by which an authoritative body accords formal recognition of technical competence for specific tests/ measurements, based on third party assessment and following international standards.
• In our industry assay labs demonstrates various standard assay methods to NABL assessors and then only gets this accreditation!
• The liberalization of trade and industry policies of the Government of India has created quality consciousness in domestic trade and provided greater thrust for export. As a consequence laboratories have to demonstrably operate at an internationally acceptable level of competence.
• NABL accreditation is globally accepted.

What is NABL AccreditationWhat is NABL AccreditationWhat is NABL AccreditationWhat is NABL Accreditation
• Accreditation is procedure by which an Authoritative Body (NABL) gives formal recognition that a Body (laboratory) is competent to carry out a specific task (testing/calibration) For example, Fire assay , ICP etc.
• NABL: National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, a constituent Board of Quality Council of India
• NABL Accreditation tells you about lab’s technical competence or its ability to provide reliable and accurate test data that will be accepted by your customers and trading partners.accurate test data that will be accepted by your customers and trading partners.
• Proper technical evaluation requires the use of technical experts who can assess the CAB against internationally accepted standard like ISO/IEC 17025 for Testing & Calibration laboratories
• Accreditation bodies may also apply additional technical requirements for evaluating a CAB, as per requirements of different technical fields.
• So NABL accreditation, which is based on these standards is a measure of both technical competence and quality management system and is the most appropriate process rather than ISO 9001 certification for laboratories
• NABL offers accreditation services to the laboratory in a non-discriminatory manner

• Mandatory requirement: Effective 1.6.2018, Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) India shall issue an actual user import license to import gold Dore only to those refineries that hold a valid certification from Bureau of Indian standards (BIS)
• The laboratory attached to the refinery must hold a valid accreditation by NABL as per ISO/IEC 17025, prior to applying for BIS certification.17025, prior to applying for BIS certification.
• This enables BIS to focus on quality control measures adopted by refineries during its pre-certification audit of the refining process, using the lab results for in-house competence prior to sending samples for third party verification.
• Sets a minimum standard of acceptance of the veracity of the refined output.
