Bi-Weekly XLXV No. 8, April 11, 2012 faith friendship fellowship followership fruitfulness www.firstsayyes.com It shouldn’t surprise us that creativity originates with God. From the first moment the words, “Let there be light” spilled forth from the mouth of God, creativity has been and is being released in the Uni- verse. And, being made in the image of God, we have within us this capacity to “create.” Think about babies who create with sound (the babble of babies is “perfect praise” in God’s ears). Give a child a box and in their crea- tivity it becomes a castle or a boat or a cradle or anything else their mind can dream up. And give a child a crayon and a blank sheet of paper then step back and watch out! Refrigerator art in a matter of minutes. Creativity is some- thing with which we are born and with the help and shaping of life experiences, people, and environments, it can be developed or destroyed. None of us should mistake being artistic for being crea- tive. So many people will claim not to be creative be- cause they know they are not artistic. There are many of us who are not “artistic” but all of us, in some way, are creative. God designed that in us. So whether it is with words, or music (vocal or instrumental) or ideas or money or plants or wisdom or leadership or serv- ing or loving or caring or giv- ing or encouraging or any number of other expres- sions—we have within us the capability to be creative. And you, yourself have one or more areas in your life where you are creative. So don’t hide it or deny it—God made you that way! There is an old saying, “Your life is a gift from God and what you make of it is your gift to Him.” There is a lot of truth in that state- ment. You are not an accident or a mistake. You are not a failure or broken beyond repair. You are a child of the Most High who put creative gifts inside of you to be expressed for God’s glory. You may not color inside the lines. You may see a sunrise in an or- ange or laughter in a dessert dish. You may have impulses to care deeply for those who hurt. You may see potential in another and encourage. You may hear the cry of despair and respond with finan- cial resources to meet a need. You may work with your hands, your head, your voice your heart. And when you do, God’s creative power is being released in you and through you to make God’s good world better. Don’t let any- one convince you that you aren’t gifted in some area of your life. The world needs you and your gift and so does God’s kingdom. The last mark many song writers would place on the scores of mu- sic they were inspired to write were the words, “To the Glory of God.” May that be true of us, as well. See you at “God’s glory place” this weekend! ~jimd. P.S.~ Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers & attenders who made this past Holy Week a beautiful celebration of Jesus’ rising from the dead. Church Women United May Friendship Day will be held May 1st at the Celebration Center Friendship Hall beginning with a noon luncheon. The program is entitled, "Listening To My Sisters". The cost is $7.50 and tick-ets can be purchased from Patsy Harrison or JoAnn Lambirth.

College semester finals will be here before we know it. Each se-mester, the L.O.T. Class on behalf of First Church, prepares K.I.T. (keeping in touch) care packages to be sent to our full-time college students. If you have a college student in your family, please let the church office know their name and address by April 27th. Dona-tions of snacks, gum, chips, etc. will be appreciated. Anyone wish-ing to help defray the cost of mail-ing the packages may make a contribution marked “K. I.T. Pack-ages.”

SSEEDSEEDS Come to our mid-week service of worship and teaching every Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Celebration Center. “Seeds” is our service for families that features many of our lay peo-ple who have great faith stories to share along with expertise in a va-riety of fields. A 2-3 year old and an infant nursery are available as well. Come join us!

HEARTBEATS

The Door Project New Members Dessert College Kits

Many in our congregation have cre-ated artwork on doors depicting various Bible themes and stories. We hope other artists from the area will join us in creating art on doors to be auctioned off for Habitat for Humanity later this spring. Some of these doors will be displayed throughout the community in vari-ous churches and businesses. Let’s open the door of affordable housing for one more person in Se-dalia! Call 660-827-2993 for more information.

DDOWNTOWNOWNTOWN UUPKEEPPKEEP F FUNDUND We have recently decided to make a large repair on the roof of the Downtown facility. We are commit-ted to maintaining and upgrading the downtown building, therefore we are asking that if you are inter-ested in making monetary dona-tions to the Downtown facility’s up-keep please denote that on any gifts.

For our recent new members, there will be a New Members’ Dessert meeting on Sunday, April 15th at 1:30 p.m. at the Celebra-tion Center (Hospitality Room). Please join with us for this gather-ing and come learn more about First Church.

If you are interested in being a part of a mission trip to our sister church in Caracol, Haiti, August 1-9, to do Vaca-tion Bible School with the vil-lage children, contact Lorie Holt [email protected] or 620-0866. If you are dealing with a con-flict right now in your lives, let one of our trained Stephen Ministers help provide emo-tional and spiritual care. Call Don Brandes, 827-6455, or the church office, 827-2993.

I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the wonderful volunteers who helped with our Children’s Ministry Easter Activities! Whether you donated candy and eggs, made play dough, helped stuff hundreds of plastic eggs, helped stuff the activity bags for Easter at the Mathewson, or served at the Easter egg hunt, you made an eternal difference in the lives of our children and displayed God’s great love for each and every boy and girl. Thank you especially to all the volunteers who braved the rainy weather on Saturday and came out to help hide eggs and welcome children. Finally, thank you to all the kids and parents who came out and participated in this event. We pray that you and your families were blessed!
