Welcome Back!

Welcome to the start of the new school year. The FS2 team would like to welcome all the children into their first year of full-time school. Over the next few weeks we will be concen-trating on helping them settle into class and the school environment, familiarising them with

the routines and expectations.

It is lovely to see that your children have joined us full of energy and enthusiasm, ready for the challenges and excitements that this new academic year will bring!

Special People Your child has been assigned a ‘special person’ who will support their development and act as the main point of contact. Please share information with them in order to build up a journal of your child’s development through photographs, words and pictures. Should you wish to speak to a teacher privately, please make an appointment via the main office.

Home Activities Reading — A library book and set of reading activities will be issued once a week. The books are for you to read and enjoy with your child. The reading activities focus on developing letter sound and key word knowledge. The issuing of reading books will be on an indi-vidual basis and governed by professional judg-ments of when the children have begun to develop their early reading skills. The aim is for children to feel positive about reading so they become life long book lovers. Maths & other Aspects of Learning- A practical maths activity will be sent home once a fortnight to develop mathematical concepts linked to num-ber, calculating and shape, space and measure. Please can you ensure book bags are brought to school each day!

Housekeeping

Inevitably, children get warm whilst playing and often take off their jumpers and cardigans. Please ensure they are clear-

ly labelled and encourage your child to take responsibility

for their own things. Could you also ensure that their school bags and P.E kit are also labelled. Your child’s class teacher will inform you which day the P.E session will take place.

A Celebration of Learning

Throughout the year we will be capturing your chil-dren’s learning experiences through; photographs, videos, work evidence, written observations and

learning stories. By gathering this information we are able to celebrate their individual successes and

achievements, and identify what they confidently know and can do. You can also contribute to your child’s portfolio by sending in any evidence from

home.

Outdoor Learning The physical space outdoors is really taking shape and the children are enjoying the learning zones that have already been created. Further enhancements to the area will ensure that children have a quality learning environment that will

impact on their overall learning and development. We would appreciate any donations of garden furniture, plants and any

recycled materials. Your child will go out in all weathers, please make sure

children have a coat and sensible footwear.

Children should only use the equipment under the supervision of a member of the Foundation Team!

PE

We have a dedicated P.E session each week. Your child will need to bring a t-

shirt, shorts and plimsolls or training shoes.

P.E sessions will take place on the fol-lowing days;

Orange 1 Wednesday (Tuesday this half term) Orange 2 Thursday

Orange 3 Tuesday

Voluntary Contributions The children have thoroughly enjoyed preparing and tasting different foods on a daily basis in FS1. This has only been pos-sible because of your 50p donations each week. We would like to continue these activities in FS2 and thank-you for your con-tinued support. Please pass money onto the class teacher or place in envelope.

Parent Helpers

We are always looking for parents/ carers to help with bak-ing, reading, playing games etc. Please feel free to come and

help as often as you can. Please note: regular helpers will be required to have a Dis-

closure check.

All About Me—Memory Boxes

The memory boxes have been a huge success, thank you! The children have really enjoyed talking about the special objects, memorabilia, and photographs they chose to put inside. Staff

and children are more aware of each others’ interests, families and celebrations. This project will continue throughout the term, so there is time for your child to bring one to school!

Please remember to put fresh water in your child’s water bottle and return to school daily!

Baseline Entry to Reception Assessment

This half term the staff will be observing and interacting with the children to find out what they know and can do independently. The assessments will be completed by the end of September . Staff will update you on your child’s progress during the term.
