Luxembourg My Summer Vacation

I went to Luxembourg. Its such a small country! In fact its the smallest country in the world! There are three other major countries around it; Belgium to the north, Germany east, and France to the west. As we passed over the glistening North Sea, I felt at home in the 75 degrees F. temperature - just as it is at home right now.

Geography

One day I walked into a really beautiful church, and when I walked in there was a sign that said Roman Catholic church. I walked further in and people were talking in uhh, I think Luxembourgish and German. I guess it was some kind of holiday called Fair Day because they were celebrating and eating pork and beans. I later found out that it was the Grand Dukes birthday. Around the city there were also beautiful sculptures and paintings. After that I went cycling with some other Luxembourgish people.Culture

EconomyI passed by the steel factory on my way into town. There were more factories; rows and rows of food, machinery, and chemical factories. When I got to where I was going, I went to go buy something for my mom and they said to pay in Euros what in the world is a Euro? It is the form of money now used throughout many countries in Europe. Did you also know that there is a European Union and that Luxembourg is a part of it?

(Euro. Union flag and country's)

When I visited Musee National dHistoire Militaire in Diekirch. I learned About how Luxembourg was a Monarchy and a neutral country until 1914 when Germany invaded. They occupied the country for all of World War I and World War II. During WWII many Luxembourgish joined the Resistance. The country was liberated by the allys including the United States. Did you know that after the war Luxembourg joined NATO and the European Union?

Government

The sausage I eat at Christmas is very much like that I tasted during Fair DayCurrently the head of the government is Grand Duke HenriThe population of Luxembourg is 509,074It is difficult to hike and cycle the many winding, hilly roads in Luxembourg but well worth it to see its beautiful hidden roads and forestsLuxembourg has the highest GDP in Europe!Luxembourg has long had a good relationship with the United States and continues to be our ally and they share a commitment to advance freedom and prosperityMy cousins have an American flag hanging in their living room and celebrate our independence day
