From Jakarta to Eugene

My school

In Indonesia, we wear uniform

Typical classroom

But in some islands, it looks like this

Some kids have to boat from island to another to go to school. Some have to hike

But it doesn’t stop them from winning many science Olympics

This is the typical food that my family would eat

This is the typical food for many, because they cannot afford food

Graduated -- Change the world!When I graduated from high school, I wanted to change the economy issues in the world

So I flew to America to do an exchange program

Went to Whatcom Community College to learn English, but then I wanted a bachelor degree

Expensive!!!

But, with the money currency that approximately 13,000 Rupiah to 1 USD, my parents cannot afford American college tuition

• 3.96 GPA• Honors Program• Phi Theta Kappa• Student Senator• Outstanding Student• Internships• Three part time jobs

So I took some classes in community college and worked really hard

ScholarshipIt paid off, the University of Oregon gave me ICSP scholarship that most of my tuition

I am very thankful and enjoy being a Duck

And yes, sometimes it gets hard

Too much homework

No money

I miss my family

My dog especially

But every time it gets hard, I remind myself the reason why I am here: I want to be successfulso that I can give back to these people who gave me motivation to be me

I remember the kids who are happy with every little things they have

So, giving up is not even an option

Instead, I am thankful and grateful for this amazing opportunity to be in the United States
