V.2 – “…take unto thee a wife of whoredoms…” (a woman destined to become a harlot)

Vv.6-9 – “…children of whoredoms…” (children disgraced because their mother was a harlot)

This marriage & home a symbolic act of the prophet designed to show Israel how sinful they had become!

And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt. (Hosea 2:15)

And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast. (Hosea 12:9)

Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me. I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought. (Hosea 13:4-5)

Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts; (Hosea 2:2)

What God Taught Hosea/Us!

The true nature of sin and goodness!

For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. (Hosea 6:6)



He discovered that God is a “suffering” God!

When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt. (Hosea 11:1 )

I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them. (Hosea 11:3 )




God would disown/disinherit Israel – sending them into captivity – graphically illustrated by the symbolic names given to Hosea’s children: 1st child a boy named “Jezreel” – God scatters!

And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel. (Hosea 1:4)





2nd child a girl named, “Lo-Ruhamah” – one who has not obtained mercy – symbolized the fact that Israel had gone so far that God would no longer have pity on them to forgive them

God said He will restore Israel to his house

I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city. (Hosea 11:9)




That God is a merciful & forgiving God! “How shall I give thee up” Hosea 11:8 )

God said He will restore Israel to his house

Reinstate him to the status of full sonship

And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God. (Hosea 2:23)

What God Taught Hosea/Us!Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God. Hosea Still Loved Her!

“… the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.

(Hosea 9:7)

Did she soften under such unbelievable love? Or, did she continue to resist that love and die

as she had lived? A marvelous love story indeed! But there is one that surpasses it:

God’s love for man! (1 Pet.1:18,19) Will you resist Divine Love? Or let it soften your

hearts and win you back to God?
