THE WORK THEY DONE AND HOW THEY FELTSome of the children did some work as scare

crows, chimney sweeps, cleaners, sellers, workers in the coal mine.

The children were paid 1p, 2p, 4p or 5p for working in 1 week.

The coal mine workers were very scared but some times they had to open the door for the airing.

Scare crows were very sad that they had to stand from morning to evening every day in the cold.
