My experience with Middle Eastern Cuisine
My boyfriend’s neighbors are all from Saudi Arabia and from a Muslim religious background. They cooked a traditional middle eastern meal for me- Ghozi was our main dish with the addition of an Arabic salad, Vimto, and Ulker chocolate wafers for dessert. I had to eat sitting on the floor with my hands. Traditional middle eastern peoples eat with their hands on the floor.
Ghozi
Ghozi, our main dish is a traditional meal eaten in the middle east. It is a cooked rice dish topped with lamb seasoned with traditional Arabic herbs and spices.
Arabic Salad
Accompanying Ghozi is typically an Arabic salad made of tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley, and a dressing composed of vinegar and oil.
Vimto
We drank Vimto to wash down the Ghozi and Arabic salad. Vimto is predominantly sold overseas, and has a taste similar to Fanta.
Ulker Chocolate Wafer
For dessert was had an Ulker Chocolate wafer. This is the Middle-Eastern version of a domestic Kitkat bar sold in the United States.
My experiences
Taking part in such a cultural event really opened my eyes to the world. It showed me how other cultures interact with each other on a daily basis and how they eat their native food. I hang with these people a lot now, absorbing their ways and learn new things everyday.
