Theme - Designing of public furinture.
I went to the extent of mak-ing a shade. This shade is particularly for a market
square in India where vehi-cles are allowed to park. So
basically these shades are for people to park by and hang
out under them. This was a model to custom a particular market square in Ahmedabad where all kinds
of people would come to meet up with friends or fam-ily and hang out for a couple of hours. With their vehicles parked alongside they would
stand or lean against and have lunch, dinner etc.
Simple Furniture Design
The spot I chose specifically was a parking lot and also a place where people would spend a couple of hours hanging out. The lot is surrounded by mostly snack joints, eateries and ice cream parlours along with co-thes stores, shoe stores etc.. so during the noons and from late evening to night people of all ages come there and park themselves in the centre.A- so since it is sunny during the day the place looked like it was in need of a shadeB- shades could allow people to come together below the shade since there werent too many trees around.C- strategically placing of the shade will also help in regulating parking of both cars and bikes

A mock up model was made to understand the sun direction and the shadows it would create during the lenght of the day.

Inclusve desks for main-stream classrooms that cater
to the blind and the VI (visu-ally impaired students).
The purpose of these desks are to improve the classroom
conduct of the blind and visualy impaired students.
Design for Special Needs
This inclusive desk is also provided with a plug point to allow the con-necting of the tape recorders. Tape recorders are used by the VI and the blind to record their lectures so that they can compose their notes.
The table top has two colours on either sides - green and red. Each colour has its own tex-ture.

The purpose of these desks are to improve the classroom
conduct of the blind and visualy impaired students.
Design for Special Needs
Advantages - A:The dimensions of the desks are determined to be easily used by a wheelchair ridden student and is also provided with a leg rest. B: The front bamaboo board works as a backrest for the student sitting in the front and also protects the blind from walking into the behind of the desk.
The two colours red and green are chosen so they are not confused by the VI. The two textures are to help the completely blind identify the desktop. The purpose of the two colours/textures is so that the student would know their space limits in the classroom. Hence this helps them to arrange themselves better at their desk. This concept can be ex-plored to have two to five desks attached to form one big desk.

Mechsanisms to form, stuc-tural stability to material
strenght. These are the pa-rameters while one designs a
folding furniture.Mantischair is a deck/ porch chair. This folding chair that allows portablility can also be carried to the beach, garden,
parks etc.The purpose being the
above, its proportions and dimensions are determined
accordingly.
Folding Furniture
Parallelogram is a simple goemetric form that can be folded neatly. Hence the starting point to my chair was a parallelogram.
Parallelogram worked into the mecha-nism for a folding chair. How could the chair open and close in one go ?

Here are two explora-tions for my mecha-nism. The mechanism involes 5 pivots and a slide. The positioning of the slide is crucial to ensure the mechanism is smooth and sturdy.

Coir boards were newly in-troduced to us by the coir
board of India. We were to come up with a furniture piece in a two day work-
shop. A fellow student and I worked on this bench.
Coir Board Workshop
The proposed idea was a bedroom bench. A bench that could go against the wall vertically op-posite the bed or against the foot of the bed etc.The lower shelf is for books that one can keep for late night reading. The properties of the coir board let us use only certain joints unlike wood.
Workshop brief - bedroom furniture
This a complete knock down bench and it is so because coir boards are very heavy and trans-porting them would be a trouble however big or small the furniture is.

Study of materials and the building of structures using the materials is the main ob-
jective here.
Structures
A triangle being the most stable shape and structure that exists, this is a chair that is constructed by the method of triangulation of metal rods. Also it is tried using as less of rods as possible.

The main objective of this course is taking inspiration
from nature. It could be animals, plants , the human body etc..Inspiration from
not just the physical form but also its properties and char-
acteristics.
Nature and Form
Comparing the sea horse to a hearing aid, I per-ceived the hearing aid to be the closest to how a sea horse behaves with its habits and physical fea-tures :
A - a sea horse is a very tiny creature almost 2D while looking at it. It is visible only from its side profile - The hearing aid is also a small object that has to fit just right behind ones ear whose form is also almost 2D since its depth is very littleB - The prehensile monkey tail of the seahorse always curls and holds onto the seaweed and other under water sea plants, planktons, rocks etc anchoring itself. This lets them to withstand from the strong water current - The case of hearing aid sits curled behind the ear firmly.C -They have an amazing ability to camouflage with their immediate surroundings. This helps them in hiding from their predators and undis-turbed. -They are preferred to camouflage with the ear.D -Their armour like body protects the few or-gans that they have mainly the spine that extends till the tip of their tail. -Case of the hearing aid contains the amplify-ing system.

material used - 3 sheets of acrylic of 5mm each.proposed material - silicone, beacause it could be softer to touch, can have a texture that would help it be grasped well by hand and the colour of the hearing aid could be matched with the col-our of the skin of the user (using the camouflaging char-acteristics of the seahorse). Silicone can have any shade of colour given to it using pigments.

Systems Design ProjectThe subject chosen for my
systems project was to under-stand the urban nomadism which is slowly getting to be
a phase of life of people from the urban region and the
country.
Urban Nomadism
Design Opportunities realised for this scenario was - To promote fast and easy travelling. Hence the following two products are developed accordingly.
1 of 2
Concept A: The bed package which comes with a chair and a table. The three peices are fitted onto each other and can easily be rolled out. This package can easily be carried till the truck with all your other bags.

The ‘PoH’ was made for the Indian festival of lights - Diwali. People decorate their surroundings with all kinds of lights. And ‘PoH’ is a floating light to decorate ponds, lakes etc during this festival.
Materials used - I picked up existing plastic ware to make this lighing. Plastic spoons and plastic spice box are the main components to this lighting. Other parts used are - two way switch, LED orange lights and double A batteries.

Classroom ProjectThis was an interior project
where I had to hypothetically redo the interiors of a com-mercial photography studio.
Interior ProjectThe space I studied consisted of the managers office, the main desk where the customers are dealt with and the editing room. The studio is situated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

My inspiration for the space if photo framing and cubes. The space was to have optimum spac usage considering the insane amount of employees the space accomodated.

concept - Develop a form for a commercial store.
Networking of the geomet-rical is the brief to develop
the form.
Form Playing Geometry
The brief wanted us to develop the forms for a store. I picked a shoe store. Hence this form can be altered in size and arrangements that can cater to various uses of display, counter and seating.
Form contructed using rapid proto-typing. The form is 1.5 inches tall.

Taking any object and giving renders of different kinds of materials for a different feel of the product. Here I have taken a woman’s razor and given it different textures.
Mediums used - colour pen-cils, white and black gell pens , pencils and water colours.
Hand Renders
pumis stone is the stone that is used to scrub the body to remove muck that gets collected on the skin. Thus given the use of the razor it could also be used to scrub.
some of the textures tried out are rexine, pumis stone, leather, plastic etc..

Draping was a workshop to understand briefly the hu-
man body and how to drape around it. Here we went wild in folding, pinning and fall of
the cloth.
Open elective-Drape
Use of waste to make a dress - cigarette boxes of different kinds were fitted together and then pinned onto the body to get the above result.
