A kaleidoscope of

memories flashes through

my mind when I think of my

husband. I recognized my

soul mate the first time I set

my eyes on him. He is aptly

named Sujanapal as it

reflects his innate goodness

and his humanitarian vision.

The best years of my life

have been spent with him

and whatever I have

become today is because of

him. The dimpled smile, so

characte-ristic of him, is

gone but the warmth of his

personality will linger with

family, his friends,

associates and us.

To his parents, the

legendary Ayathan Balago-

pal and Anandalakhmi, he

was the next in line to be the

torchbearer to translate their

ideology of love for

mankind. The inspiring life

of his parents and the

writings and speeches of the

leaders of the independence

struggle played a decisive

role in moulding the career

of Sujanapal the politician.

The one leader who influe-

nced him the most was

Nehru, especially the

Nehruvian brand of

socialism and his fondness

for children. He was in his

element in the company of

children.

Global issues of the third

world engaged his attention.

His books Moonnam

Lokam and Poruthuna

Palestine illustrate this

aspect. He was keenly

interested in and deeply

concerned about the

pollution of this beautiful

planet and in the short tenure

as a minister in kerala he

devoted his attention to this

issue. His book on the need

to protect the mangrove

swarms against virtual

extinction also reveals his

deep concern on the issue.

The Sarovaram Park was

his brainchild and he

earnestly wished the project

to be completed, as it would

preserve the environmental

sanctity of the area.

The SK Park is the

fulfillment of his mission to

simultaneously pay a tribute

to the great writer and to

preserve a heritage. A

barren land was transfo-

rmed into a dreamland

where intellectuals gather for

seminars and young ones

assemble to be initiated into

the world of fine arts.

Another highlight of the

park is a well-equipped

library.

In his own lifetime what

he liked most is travelling.

For this he owes much to the

writings of the great travelo-

gue writer Mr.Pottekat. He

was a globetrotter who

travelled widely, photogra-

phed, painted and wrote his

experiences in the form of

books for the benefit of the

public. He has written

eleven books. He was the

recipient of an award for his

Hospital also

bears witness to

his unflinching

concern for the

mentally challenged just

like his grandfather

Ayathan Gopalan. He

wanted to make the

mental Hospital brighter and

positive in appearance. The

main entrance gate was his

contribution. He also

donated a TV set to the

inmates and also sanctioned

5 lakhs from his MLA fund

for the rehabilitation of the

inmates.

His friendship was all

encompassing. He moved in

the company of the big and

the small alike and he was

easily accessible to anyone.

His all embracing affection

extended to the world of

animals, too. Be it a stray

dog or a bird he would show

his affection fondling it or

giving it food. He likes to be

surrounded with flowers and

plants. The beautifully

maintained garden and lawn

around his home truly

reflects his love of nature.

The great American poet,

philosopher, essayist Ralph

come to my mind as I try to

sum up my impressions of

my great soul-mate.

Educomp smartclass· Brings abstract and difficult curriculum concepts to life

inside classrooms.

· Makes learning an enjoyable experience for students.

· Improves academic performance of students.

· Improves teacher effectiveness and productivity in class.

· Enables instant formative assessment of learning outcomes in class.

Educomp smartclass is a digital initiative

pioneered and invented by Educomp, the largest

publically listed educational company in India.

Smartclass is a technology leveraged teaching-

learning system that has already heralded a whole

new environment in classrooms across the

country. Smartclass has already been adopted by

over 8000 progressive schools in India. Soon it will

touch every class and every progressive school in

India. This revolution has already been adopted by

over 150 schools in Malabar. In Kozhikode District,

more than 35 schools have already adopted

smartclass.

Smartclass consists of an exhaustic repository

of well researched, mapped to curriculum digital

modules or lessons (consisting of 2D and 3D

animations, graphics, audio & video) on every

subject from KG to Class XII. They are all stored in

a central server hub in the school called The

Knowledge Centre. The classrooms are wired to

the Knowledge centre and are equipped with a state-

of-the-art interactive Educomp smartclass DigitalTeaching System(DTS). Teachers can access

these lessons on an everyday basis, project them

on the board during their regular class sessions,

and explains concepts with the help of graphics,

animations, videos etc. Importantly, the modules

are designed in a teacher led format that would

allow her to make interventions, explain and also

use the chalk & blackboard as of before. Towards

the end of the class, teacher displays a set of

questions on a large screen; every child in class

gets ready to answer the questions with their

personal answering device – Smart AssessmentSystem (SAS). Students click the answers,

instantly; teachers are able to get a score sheet for

every child in class. This helps the teacher to make

instant & formative assessment.

History of FootballThe game of soccer, or

association football, as it is

properly called, is the world’s

most popular team sports.

Virtually every country plays

the game. It has been

estimated that at the turn of the

21st century there were about

240 million soccer players

around the globe and more

than 1.3 billion fans. One of the

reasons that soccer is so

appealing is because of its

simplicity. A ball and ground is

required to play, and there is

really only one essential rule-

players cannot touch the ball

with their hands. Many people

are drawn to the athletic skill

and quick thinking that soccer

requires. According to Pele, it

is perhaps ‘the most beautiful

game’.

Various civilizations lay

claim over the invention of the

sport. There are records of

soccer like games having been

played in China more than

2000 years ago as well as in

Greece and North America.

“Folk football” a game played

throughout Europe in which

competing teams attempt to

move a ball towards a final

destination, provided the origin

of most football games,

including soccer. The folk

football games were played

over vast areas and often

played one village against

another. The game was also

quite violent, and local

governments often tried to ban

the sports.

England, however, was the

real starting place of the

modern game of soccer. Mr.

Richard Malkuster, the

headmaster of an English

school realized that this game

is the best exercise for the

school students and thus

brought the modern game of

soccer. He made many rules

and regulations to reduce the

fouls in the play ground. At the

half of 19th century many

football clubs formed in

England. The football associa-

tion (FA) was created on 26th

October 1863. They made

changes in the Football rules

in 1868.

Rules established by the

federation international de

Football Association (FIFA),

the world wide governing body

of soccer, require that soccer

be played on a rectangular

field between 100 and 130

yards (90 and 120 meters) long

and between 50 and 100 yards

(45 and 90 meters) wider for

international matches the field

is 110 to 120 yards (100 to 110

meters) long and 70 to 80

yards (64 to 73 meters) wide.

A goal post 8 yards (7.3

meters) wide and 8 feet 2.4

meters) high is placed at each

end of the field.

The ball is a round,

inflated rubber bladder

covered with lather or

some other approved material.

It measures between 27 and

28 inches (68 and 70

centimeters) in circumference

and weighs between 14 and 16

ounces (410 and 450 grams).

In 1872 the first internati-

onal game was played

between England and

Scotland, and it was in England

that soccer professionalism

was legalized in 1885. At the

turn of the 19th century, agents

of the British Empire helps to

spread the sport to every

corner of the globe. The

football league was formed in

England by 1888 and became

a model for league play

elsewhere.

A typical European soccer

league featured a top division.

In which the very best teams

played, and two or three lower

divisions. Teams finishing at

the top of their division were

promoted to the next level,

while teams at the bottom

were demoted. Nation wide

club tournaments, such as the

FA cup in England also

became prevalent.
