Smoke is comprised of two main categories of pollutants: Visible Smoke Particles: This is the stuff you can see - the haze in the air. Microscopic particles of smoke and ash leave the cigarette and float off into the air. First it rises. Then as it cools it settles back down. Ranging in size from .3 micron to 1 micron in size, it is critical that your system have the capability to capture these particles. However, removing the particles alone still leaves you with a problem. Invisible Gases and Odors: Smoke also contains over 4000 chemicals and gases, of which 50 are known to cause cancer. Did you know that people who work in a smoking environment are 50% more likely to develop lung cancer than those working in a non-smoking environment? Yes, 50% more likely!!! An effective system must have the capability to remove these gases, fumes and odors!

Unless you handle the entire problem, you are wasting your money on a partial solution. The Competition: Electrostatic / Electronic Smoke Eaters or Precipitators: Many of the big name brand companies like Honeywell, SmokeeterTM, Trion and SmokeMasterTM employ this technology. Used for decades in smoke removal, these devices focus primarily on the particles of smoke. Some zap, some don’t. The theory here is to super-charge the particles coming through the unit and attract them to electrically charged collection trays. They work pretty well initially, but once dirty, the efficiency drops considerably. As the collection trays get coated with smoke particles, they lose their ability to attract the particles. The big problem here is that the super-charged particles go right through the unit, exit back into your air and now want to stick to something. Most likely, walls, ceilings, carpets, fabrics and worst of all, people and their clothing. Not only that, the electronic smoke eaters zap and pop and make awful noises once the collection cells start to get dirty. They literally sound like a bug zapper. Do you want that in your business? I don’t! Electrostatic precipitators are also difficult to maintain. You need to remove the dirty collection trays, wash them in a commercial dishwasher or soak them in a big tub of expensive chemicals, let them dry out and reassemble your smoke eaters. The process is time consuming, a burden and messy to say the least. Chemical stripping is required on regular basis. They are so much of a pain to maintain that the dealers usually try to sell you a maintenance contract so you don’t have to worry about it. Just more un-necessary expense if you ask me. Some of my customers were paying $80 per machine per month for maintenance. The SRS 2000 Flushmount HEPA Air Cleaner is designed to fit easily into a suspended ceiling. It replaces either a 2’x4’ tile or 2-2’x2’ tiles. Clearance above the suspended ceiling must be 18”. The weight of the system does not rest on the ceiling grids but is secured above the suspended ceiling to a permanent structure like a joist or beam. It is recommended that the SRS 2000 Flushmount Air Cleaner be installed in areas that do not exceed 13 foot high ceiling heights.

AC/Heat Duct Air Purification System

The HVAC UV System is designed to eliminate sick building syndrome risks by reducing odors, air pollutants, VOCs (chemical odors), smoke, mold bacteria and viruses*. These HVAC-UV lamps are easily mounted into air conditioning and heating systems air ducts where most sick building problems start. When the HVAC system is in operation the HVAC-UV lamp creates an Advanced Oxidation process consisting of: Hydro-peroxides, ozonide ions, super oxide ions and hydroxide ions. All are friendly oxidizers. By friendly oxidizers we mean oxidizers that revert back to oxygen and hydrogen after the oxidation of the pollutant. Why Use HVAC UV Technology? Installation: The HVAC-UV lamps will need to be installed in the supply side ductwork just after the heating/cooling process and prior to the first supply vent. It is recommend that a 15 amp electrical outlet be installed (if not present) within 6 feet of the duct. You will want to have these outlets be controlled by light switches so you can turn the processing on and off easily as noted above. However, for maximum benefit, the HVAC UV lamps and your fans should run continuously. Installation is accomplished by cutting a 4” round hole in the duct, sliding the lamp into the duct and using either sheet metal screws or duct tape or both to attach the plate to the outside of the duct. Note: Due to the nature of installation and electrical dangers, it is required that you have a certified electrician or HVAC contractor install this component of the system. Interested?
