CYS SERVICE SPECIAL OPENING - RESPITE CARE Deployment Respite Care is available for children registered with CYS Services whose parent/sponsor is deployed, on TCS, PCS or TDY (90-179 days) orders or a Service Member of the deployed unit. Sixteen free hours of care is available per month, per child, during the deployment. A copy of the Service Member‘s orders must be provided. The CDC opens twice a month for this service. The normal cost of hourly care is $4 per hour; payment must be made in advance. This service may be utilized by other patrons whose children are registered for hourly care. Reservations are required and may be made up to two weeks in advance. Care is available for children 6 weeks - 5th grade. Due to space limitations, paid reservations may be bumped to make room for deployed Service Member‘s reservations. If this should occur, advance payments will be refunded. There is FREE childcare service two nights per month for any FRG member who would like to utilize the service to attend an FRG meeting. To utilize the service your child must be registered with CYS Services and reservations must be made no later than 12:00 pm the week before the date of the opening. APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM: REGISTRATION The Pippin Youth Center’s HIRED! is an apprenticeship program offered through the CYS Services that is designed to meet the workforce-preparation and secondary education needs of eligible youth. HIRED! is FREE and open to registered youth in grades 9-12. Must be able to work 15 hours per week to earn $500 and must register by August 16. The Pippin Youth Center is located in Bldg. 9625 Young Street. For more information call 596-0209. Now – August 30 2013 SUMMER FUN BOWLING SPECIAL Daugherty Bowling Center is offering the 2013 Summer Fun Bowling Special Now – August 30, Monday thru Friday, 11:00 am – 6:00 pm. Youth ages 16 yrs. and under will receive 2 FREE games of bowling per day! (Shoe rental regular rate). Make sure to register for a prize drawing at the end of the summer! Now – August SKIESUnlimited ACADEMIC TUTORING Whether you are looking to improve your reading skills or writing ability, or need assistance with ACTS, SAT or GED test prep, let our SKIESUnlimited instructor help you! Cost is $120 for four 2 hour sessions. SKIESUnlimited Academic Tutoring offers private or small group sessions K-12 (maximum of 2 students with 3 year age range) on a 4-week, 2 hour session in the month of August. Now – Sept 10 2013 OPERATION RISING STAR: REGISTRATION Operation Rising Star returns to Fort Leonard Wood this September 10. This “American Idol” style competition is now registering competitors. To register, go to www.fortleonardwoodmwr.com , print and fill out the application and turn it in at the Special Events Office Bldg 1000 or bring it with you the night of the event. The competition is scheduled for September. 10, 17 and 24 at Pershing Community Center. The competition begins at 7 p.m. Participants compete for a place in the finals in San Antonia, Texas. Participants are also competing for local prizes. First prize is $500, second place $250 and third place receives $100. A “Spirit Award” of $300 is awarded to the most supportive unit or Family Readiness Group at the contest. Operation Rising Star is open to active duty, National Guardsmen and Reservists from any branch of service and to Family members 18 years and older. Now – September 15 2013 FORT LEONARD WOOD SPRINT TRIATHLON: REGISTRATION SWIM…BIKE…RUN!!! The Fort Leonard Wood Sports Department is hosting a Sprint Triathlon September 21; Distances are a .5 mile swim, 12.4 mile bike and 3.1 mile run. Awards for team, individual and overall male and female finisher, as well as age group winners. Must be 18 years of age or older. Cost for advanced registration $40 per individual / $100 per team of 3, day of registration will be $60 per individual / $140 per team. Advanced registration ends September 15 at 4:00 pm. August 1 FITNESS CLASSES TO RELOCATE DURING DFC MAINTENANCE The DFC Aerobic Classes will relocate to the Installation Chaplain Office gym, Bldg 6501 Indiana Avenue during the stripping/refinishing of the Davidson Fitness Center main gum floor. August 1 & 8 HIRED! APPRENTICESHIP PREREQUISITE TRAINING The Pippin Youth Center’s HIRED! Apprenticeship prerequisite training program is in session from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. The HIRED! Prerequisite training program will train youth in resume building, job application, and professional image, interviewing for the job, ethics, basic business etiquette, and money matters. August 3 ARMY TEN MILER TIME TRIALS Active Duty Service Members are welcome to come out and qualify during the time trials for the Fort Leonard Wood Army Ten Miler Team. The fastest 6 runners will be part of the FLW Team in the Active Duty Mixed (men and women) category. Representatives will fly to Washington D.C. to compete in this year’s Army Ten Miler – entry fee, airline ticket, hotel room and per diem will be paid for by DFMWR. Trials are FREE. August 3 DUELING PIANOS Back by popular demand! Join us for Dueling Pianos, a night of music and laughter at this all request interactive show. Show will take place at the Pershing Community Center. Doors open at 7:15 pm for early entry ticket holders and 7:30 pm for day of purchase ticket holders. Show begins 8:00 pm. $10 early entry tickets are available at the Leisure Travel Services office. Those with early entrance tickets will be seated first to choose their seats, those without can enter at 7:30 pm General Admission $5. Show is open to the public 18 yrs. and older. August 5 CLOSURE OF DAVIDSON FITNESS CENTER MAIN FLOOR AREAS FOR MAINTENANCE Davidson Fitness Center (DFC) main gym floor is scheduled for stripping and refinishing in order to provide you with the best fitness experience. Starting August 5, 2013 the following areas will be CLOSED to patrons until further notice:

•Main Gym Floor •Weight Room •Aerobics Room ** •Racquetball Courts •In-Sight Child Care Room •Indoor running/Walking Track

All other areas of DFC will remain open. To accommodate your fitness needs during this time Specker Gymnasium will have extended hours of operation. Monday thru Friday 0500-2200 and Weekends and Holidays 0800-1800. August 6 SENIOR GOLF TOUR The Piney Valley Golf Course is hosting the Senior Tour with a 9:00 am shot gun start. Cost is $30 for Annual Green Fees Patron (AGFP) members and $35 per non-AGFP; includes green fee, cart, range practice and breakfast. Tour is open to the public ages 50 yrs. and older. August 9 BASS TOURNAMENT The Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area (LORA) will be hosting their annual Bass Tournament starting at 7:30 pm, weigh-in is at 1:00 am. Entry fee per boat is $40 and an optional $10 fee for Big Bass. Each boat must have a DOD authorized ID Card holder. Stop by the Outdoor Adventure Center or LORA for entry forms/rules. August 10 FORT LEONARD WOOD GO-KART GRAND PRIX Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines! Join us at the Rec Plex for the Fort Leonard Wood Go-Kart Grand Prix. Test your driving skills as you race towards first place around our winding go-kart track! Prizes will be given to our first and second place racers! August 11 ANNIE GET YOUR GUN The Outdoor Adventure Center is hosting an educational firearm class from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm specifically for women. The course will teach women how to handle and fire a gun. Participants will learn the different types of guns, what they are used for, how to use them, and how to clean them. The course also includes firing a few different types of guns on the range. Cost is $20 per person, 18yrs and older, and includes lunch and ammo. Registration must be made one week prior to event. August 17 CARDBOARD BOAT RACE Family & MWR is calling for the talents of adults and youth alike to participate in the Family & MWR Cardboard Boat Race at 10:00 am at TA250 Lake, Event is FREE and open to the public. You can have as many team players as you wish but you MUST build a 2-person boat to navigate across TA250. This is a wonderful event for families and a team-building experience. August 18 CONCEALED CARRY WEAPONS CLASS The Outdoor Adventure Center is hosting Concealed Carry Weapons Class; the first step in acquiring a Missouri CCW endorsement including weapons qualification on the range. Class is 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Cost is $15 to register, $65 day of class. Each student must bring a photo ID, eye and hearing protection, semi-automatic handgun and a revolver (plus minimum of 50 round each), and lunch or money for food. All handguns must be in good working condition. Class is open to the public 21 yrs. and older. Interested patrons must be registered the day prior to each class at the Outdoor Adventure Center located in Bldg. 2290 FLW K Road. For more information call 596-4223. Additional Date: September 15 Individuals bringing a privately owned weapon onto the installation for authorized activities such as hunting, dog training activities or marksmanship events, are required to register weapons. Privately owned weapons can be registered between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Main Gate Visitor’s Center, Building 100. August 23 NIGHT GOLF The most fun you can have on the course after dark! Piney Valley Golf Course hosts Night Golf; enjoy golfing at night with glow in the dark golf balls and chemical lights beginning at 5:00 pm. Cost is $30 per person for Annual Green Fee Patrons (AGFP) / $35 per person, non AGFPs, meal included. Each team will play 9 holes in daylight and then 8 holes after dark. Enjoy dinner at the turn. Prizes will be awarded for 1st-3rd place and for most “off-the-wall” dressed team. Night golf is open to the public and limited to 64 people; rental clubs are available, so sign up early! August 23 DIVE IN MOVIE

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water! Family & MWR invites you to the Dive in Movie, featuring “Jaws”. When a gigantic great white shark begins to menace the small island community of Amity, a police chief, a marine scientist and grizzled fisherman set out to stop it. Enjoy the movie with friends under the stars! Movie begins at 8:30 pm and will take place at the Fort Leonard Wood Rec Plex, Wallace Pool. Movie is open to the public 18yrs and older and cost $2 per person (Rec Plex Date night Special available at 8:00 pm). Bring your own blanket and chairs. No pets allowed. September 3 - 27 MINI BASKETBALL: REGISTRATION CYS Service’s Youth Sports & Fitness is hosting a Mini Basketball program at the School Age Services building October 1 thru November 7 from 5:45 pm – 6:45 pm. Cost is $20 per child, includes t-shirt and medal. Children ages 3 yrs. meet on Tuesdays. Children ages 4-5 meet on Thursdays. No physical is required. A parent meeting will be held October 1 at 5:30 pm at the Pippin Youth Center. All Mini Sports require parent participation. Children must be registered with CYS Services prior to signing up. September 4 – October 4 TASTE OF TE ARTS “NATURALLY”: REGISTRATION Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is looking for your latest masterpiece. The Family & MWR Arts and Crafts Frame Shop is accepting drawings, paintings, photographs, sculpture and mixed media artworks September 4 through October 4. Submitted works will be put on display from 6 to 8 p.m. October 10 during the Taste of the Arts “Naturally” event held at the Piney Valley Golf Course. Participation in the show is open to the public, no matter your age or skill level, and registration is free for students from kindergarten through grade 12. For adults, the entry fee is $5 per work of art, all artwork must be original. All entries will compete for points awarded by a panel of judges. Artists can enter original works of art in categories from drawing, painting, photography, Mixed Media and photo1=SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera), photo 2 =DE (Digitally Enhanced), photo 3 =DN (Digitally Manipulated) and sculpture. Specialty category is "Nature or Organics". Receive extra points in judging for art work emphasizing on Nature or Organics. All wall mounted art work must be wired and ready to hang. No special installations and no ceiling mounted works. Registration for artwork is open to the public. Register your artwork at the Frame Shop located in Bldg. 490, Mini Mall. September 15 CONCEALED CARRY WEAPONS CLASS The Outdoor Adventure Center is hosting Concealed Carry Weapons Class; the first step in acquiring a Missouri CCW endorsement including weapons qualification on the range. Class is 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Cost is $15 to register, $65 day of class. Each student must bring a photo ID, eye and hearing protection, semi-automatic handgun and a revolver (plus minimum of 50 round each), and lunch or money for food.
