members who were present were also introduced by Dr. Ruth G. Cabahug.

Ms. Maria Consuelo R. del Castillo, Planning, Monitoring and Communications Unit (PMCU) Director, and Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA), presented the “MUST in a Capsule” and the “MUST vis-à-vis 12 Standards of CDIO,” respectively.

Mr. Chia Hui Yong shared to the group a brief overview of SPI’s implementation of CDIO. SPI was the first institution in Asia to be a collaborator, joining the initiative in 2004. He said that it started with their Mechanical Engineering course. Although CDIO was initially designed for engineering courses, the initiative was also applied in courses other than engineering since they found out that CDIO is also

suitable for non-Engineering courses. In June 2011, SPI and Shantou University of China were designated as the CDIO Regional Centers for Asia.

Mr. Yong and Mr. Tay capped off their visit with a brief tour to the Mechatronic, Computer and Renewable Energy laboratories as well as other laboratories found at the Science Complex.

Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), MUST, the Department of Agriculture Region 10, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 10, the Bureau of Fisheries and DOST. Local government unit (LGU) partners of NOMCARRD from Bohol, Kabangkalan, Misamis Oriental, Manolo Fortich, Laguindingan, Balingasag, Malaybalay, Impasug-ong and Misamis Occidental were also recognized. Dr. Ma. Theresa M. Rivera, the Social Outreach Coordinator of the Xavier University College of Agriculture, introduced city administrator Atty. Roy H. Raagas as the representative of Mayor Oscar S. Moreno tasked to deliver the keynote speech in behalf of the city mayor.

Atty. Raagas stressed that with the help of science and technology based on participative research and development, there is hope that the world will remain beautiful, forested, climatically stable and continually generous for generations to come. He said that the bigger challenge is how LGUs could maximize the support of NOMCARRD, other institutions and national agencies in the LGU service delivery and development programs and efforts.

“Let us all continue and sustain this collaborative effort in this part of the country in order for us to achieve our goals of self-sufficiency for our constituents, the people of Mindanao and the sustained economic growth we have all worked hard for and still working hard for – our beloved country the Philippines,” he challenged.

Arch. Antonio J. Ledesma, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, also highlighted the event as the speaker during the plenary presentation in the afternoon.

Completed research and development papers of MUST were among the papers presented during the said symposium. Three MUST researches were presented in the Research Category, two in the Development Category and one entry for the Poster Category.

Dr. Dionel O. Albina and Dr. Consorcio Namoco Jr. won the second and third place, respectively, in the Development Category while Engr. Gina Lacang won second place in the Poster Category. The complete list of winners is posted at the official MUST website: http://www1.must.edu.ph/
