Music Video Analysis Arctic Monkeys – When the Sun goes down https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqkBRVukQmE Target Audience & Needs I think the target audience for this video are late teens – mid 20s. I think this because you get more late teens – mid 20s listening to loud, rocky music. I think the video is also for people who like to watch short films. I think this because the music video is a narrative video, this means that it tells the story of the lyrics; it also looks like a brief summary of a film like its showing all the most important scenes. Lyrics (Meaning Implied?) The chorus of the song says “Cause they said it changes when the sun goes down, Yeah, they said it changes when the sun goes down” this lyric is saying that things can seem ok during the day but then when it’s at night nothing goes ok. This is shown in the video because during the day scenes the man seems kind but then at night he starts to turn violent and a bit odd. Tempo The tempo of the music starts of very slow but then gets faster. This gets shown in the video because when the tempo is slow the music video is slowly changing the scenes but when the tempo speeds up the scenes get shorter and shorter. The scenes end up just flashing on the screen for a couple of seconds at a time. Genre I think the genre of the video is drama because the storyline of the video is about a dark topic. The video is about a drug addict who gets dragged into a stranger’s car and forced into prostitution. She eventually manages to run away but he ends up finding her and starts to attack her in the back of a car. The acting is very dramatic as well. Camera Technique The camera shots used in this video are; two shots, close ups, over the shoulder shots, long shots, mid shots, extreme close up and a point of view shot. The two shots are the shots that are used the most in the video because its telling a story about a drug addicts who gets dragged off and forced into prostitution by this guy.
