Music

Blurred Lines is an example of a typical pop song which is popular in the charts for its feel good vibe. By having two well known artists Pharrell and T.I feature in the song makes the track more appealing and will make it more popular to different target audiences. This drives the quick paced editing for the video.

Lyrics(Pre-Chorus: Robin Thicke)OK now he was close, tried to domesticate youBut you're an animal, baby its in your nature Just let me liberate youHey, hey, heyYou don’t need no papersHey, hey, heyThat man is not your maker

(verse 2: Robin Thicke)You the hottest bitch in this placeI feel so luckyYou wanna hug meHey, hey, heyWhat rhymes with hug meHey, hey, hey

The lyrics for the song ‘Blurred Lines’ establishes the idea that Robin Thicke relates woman to objects and refers them to animals. This shows they don’t give women a value or purpose. The words in the song are very sexual which represents the men in this video as they are surrounded by women in revealing clothes.

Genre/ Mise En SceneThe genre of this video fits the stereotype that male singers/rappers are associated with being well dressed, women and alcohol. In the Blurred Lines video all three of these are featured. The target audience of the video reaches out to young men because of the lifestyle the three men have in the video and they would aspire to be like them. The men are dressed smartly and in suits which represents their class and maturity and the women are dressed in shorts and croptops which represents their sexual side and attracts the men. The theme of the video is sex, it is represented in the lyrics, the way the women are dressed and how they act when around the men.

CameraworkThe video consists of a variety of close ups and mid shots, this allows the singers to be in full view of the camera at all times. The only long shots used in the video is to show the audience the men dancing with the girls. The girls in the video only have close ups for a brief moment and are scattered throughout the video, whereas the men are in most of the shots used as they are the main attraction and most important.

EditingThe editing represents the fast flowing movement of the song so the video style is consistent. The video also has #THICKE over the clips in the video to publicise him and the video over the form of social media such as Twitter. The video was released in two versions; the first features the models topless, the second features them covered.

Star image/BrandThe music video is selling and gaining more popularity for Robin Thicke by putting a hash tag of his name over clips of the video for example #THICKE. This allows his fans to interact and be apart of his music by allowing them to be shown how to find him on twitter and to trend the song over twitter which is a free way to advertise and get the song well known which will increase the sales ending in higher profits for the artists.
