It was long ago on Romance Mountain. A music monster named Allana wassitting on a rock, cold and starving. She was a nymph (a round pink and blue lizard withangel wings). She was in a group of other nymphs, but they were all eaten by a werepire(an ugly vampire-like wolf). Just as she gave up hope in looking for a home, twoarrasaurs (cupid-like dinosaurs) found her and invited her to stay with their family. The

children consisted of aeros (round, little blue things with hearts on their heads and wingson their backs) and choshis (a blue rodent with one antenna in the middle of its forehead).The reason they were different music monsters was because they were the lower forms ofarrasaurs.

One night, a huge battle took place. Nimoni, the legendary music monster oflove, and Relteron, the legendary music monster of hate, were fighting in the orange glowof the sky. Everyone in Dum-Dum Valley was watching the battle. Nimoni was usingwords instead of violence to defeat Relteron. Words alone couldnt do it, though.Relteron was using violence to defeat Nimoni. Unfortunately, thats how Nimoni met hisdemise. Because he died, music monsters couldnt fall in love or become attracted toanother monster anymore, which meant no reproduction. To thrive the species, after a

music monster died, their melodies reincarnated by floating to the Nursery Forest andturning back into eggs. Usually after a music monster dies, its melody (soul) floats intothe universe so someone could play it someday. Because there were no melodies flyinginto the universe, the planet had to work harder to create melodies itself.

On the other hand, Allana wasnt feeling down by the incident. She was still ableto fall in love, but no male was interested in her. She knew the secret of love in theRhythm and Melody World after years of pondering. Since everyone had pessimisticviews and were convinced that love could not be replaced, they never believed what shesaid.

The kids we know as Duncan and Audrey grew up. In case I didnt tell you,theyre my mom and dad. We lived in a southeastern Rhode Island town calledBrockington. My dad, once anAtari fanatic, worked as a computer programmer. Once a

month, he would play his saxophone at The Jazzy Avenue, a jazz club near our house.Mom was a secretary for some big, fancy office building. Thats only on Tuesdays,Wednesdays and Fridays, though. Other than that, she stayed at home and did mommystuff.

I was the youngest child. I was five-and-a-half years old at the time andeverything was an adventure. I was on the counter that day scooping heaps of groundcoffee and putting them into my teddy bear cup. I wasnt aware of the mess I left all overthe counter. My father caught me just as I was filling my cup with scalding-hot water.

Cathy! exclaimed my dad. What do you think youre doing, young lady?I wanna drink coffee, I said.Well you shouldve asked before attempting to make it.

Okay. Daddy, can I make coffee?No. I gave my father an angry look.Why not?Because coffee isnt for five-year-old girls. Its for mommies and daddies. I

promise, you can take your first sip of coffee when you turn thirteen.How long will I have to wait?Upstairs, my older brother, Owen, was coloring a satire picture of our older sister.

He was a pudgy sort of boy who wouldnt stop at anything to get his hands on sweets.Owen, will you stop drawing pictures of me being eaten by a velociraptor?

asked my older sister, Caitlin 2 (named after her aunt). She was trying to swat amosquito that had gotten into the house somehow despite the fact that it was winter.

Mom was downstairs on the couch, reading a magazine that only interested adults.Hmmm she said. Do you think the kids have enough hobbies?Sure, honey, said Dad. They have school.Well, we force them to do that hobby. I mean hobbies like playing soccer or

building a dog house.We dont have a dog.Thats just one example, though. Do you think we can get Caitlin started on an

instrument?Caitlin knew very well what music monsters were. She had one when she

experimented playing the piano. She didnt have her partner for very long because after awhile, she thought that the piano was just a waste of talent. She liked punk bands thatsang songs with swear words in them. In her room, she had CDs from the bandsBlink182, Simple Plan, Sum 41, etc.

I could get her started again on a saxophone, just like her old man! said Dad.I dont know worriedMom. Have you looked at her room lately?Ill go talk to her.

Caitlin 2 was sitting on her bed talking to her friend on the phone.What did Gabrielle do thistime? she asked. She paused to hearwhat her friend

had to say. Really? She carved a lightning-shaped scar into her forehead? Daddywalked into the room while Caitlin 2 was at the peak of her discussion with Erika.

Can I talk to you, sweetie? asked Dad. Caitlin 2 looked at Dad like he had two

heads. Sorry, Erika. Can we finish this discussion some other time? Erika then spokesome more words through the phone. Okay, bye. Caitlin 2 hung up the phone and wasprepared to listen to what Dad had to say.

Well, Caitlin, your mother and I were thinking. How would you like it ifwe gotyou started on an instrument again?

Ill pass.Honey, you can do whatever you want, but you dont know what youre missing.

Ive been playing the saxophone since I was about your age and Ive never had so muchfun.

But old-fashioned music is so bleh. I want to try something modern and

daring. She turned around and noticed a catalog from a company that sold instruments.I wanna play this one! She pointed to an authentic red and white electric guitar. But that costs over $95.00. And what if you change your mind when you get it?But dad Caitlin 2 gave Dad the sad puppy lookthat was sure to change his

mind. He paused to think about how this would affect his child and whether it was agood investment.

Sure. Caitlin 2 was elated to hear the good news.I love you, Daddy! she cheered. She tackled Dad and squeezed him real tight.Alright, thats enough loving.All that past week, Caitlin 2 did everything she could to earn money. She

shoveled snow from the driveway, she babysat for Owen and me, she folded laundry Icould go on, but I dont want to.

Saturday, December 4

It had already been several weeks and Caitlin 2 had earned $105.84.Mom, Daddy, said Caitlin 2. I saved up more than enough. Can I get that

electric guitar now?

The roads are clogged with snow, honey, said Mom. Well have to wait untilthe snow plowing trucks get the streets cleaned. Caitlin didnt mind what Mom said.She could stand to wait one more day.

Sunday, December 5

Mom, can we go today? asked Caitlin 2. You promised.Yes, we can, said Mom.What are we waiting for? Its not like youre doing anything right now!Hold your horses, Im getting my coat on.Mom and Caitlin 2 went to Brockington Square, which was a big, beautiful square

with a fountain smack in the middle of it. It was a place where festivities were oftenheld. In the square was a place called Clays Music and Doo-Dads.The inside of the store had CDs, cassette tapes, instruments, sheet music, you

name any music-related thing, he had it.What can I do you for, young lady? asked Clay at the counter.

At home, I was playing Operation with my brother.Dont touch the sides, I said. Dont touch the sides, dont touch the sides.Im trying to concentrate! said Owen. He lowered the plastic set of tweezers to

the guys stomach to remove the plastic butterflies until Caitlin 2 and Mom came homewith a heavy carrying case.

Guess what I have! said Caitlin 2. All of a sudden, Owen lost his concentrationand the game made a loud buzzing noise. I just sat there and laughed.

Let me see, said Dad. Caitlin 2 set the case on the ground and opened it. It wasa beautiful site; it was white with several black stripes across the middle. The neck wasbright red. Its one-of-a-kind, Caitlin. Caitlin was proud of her new instrument, almostas if she were a mother who just took her new baby home. I became green with envy.

I have a gee-tar, daddy! I said. I took out my beat-up tissue box ukulele andstrummed it, thinking that it would get me noticed.

Thats nice, honey. At that moment, I didnt feel that special anymore (neitherdid my ukulele).

Upstairs, Caitlin 2 began strumming at her new guitar. Not much came out of itbecause it wasnt plugged into anything. That gave her an idea. There was a stereo in theliving room and she could try out her electric guitar there. First, she painted a black staron her eye, put on a fake nose ring and dyed her hair a darker red. She couldnt try outher new guitar unless she looked like a rock star first.

As soon as she plugged in a few things downstairs, she plucked the first string.The guitar made a loud sound like BWERERERER. Mom, Dad, Owen and I weregone, so she strummed and played around with the guitar without disturbing anyone(except the cat). As soon as she got the hang of it, she struck all different poses whileplaying random notes. She didnt care that she wasnt playing a real song.

A power outage occurred later that afternoon. There was a ravenous blizzardoutside and we were stuck in a traffic jam on the way home. I was sitting in the kiddyseat in the back seat of the car next to Owen.

Mommy, I whined, Im hungry.Well be out of this jam in a minute, I promise said Mom. She thought about

what would happen to Caitlin 2 next now that she had an instrument. Do you think we

should tell Caitlin 2 about you-know-what?Dont worry, said Dad, Im sure she sees it coming.

On the way up the stairs in the dark house, Caitlin 2 thought, I made the rightchoice in investing my money. Kaboom! A loud sound was heard from her room. Sheapproached slowly and opened the door. As the opening door made a creaking sound,she could see that her window was open and there was a gust blowing through the room.It looked the same as it did when she left it (except for the window).

This is strange, said Caitlin 2. She closed and locked the window and laid herguitar case near the radiator. She tiptoed out of the room, ignoring that fact that she wasfrightened. A claw came out of the darkness and gave her a lit flashlight. Thank you.After Caitlin 2 regained common sense, she realized that something was very wrong. Sheshined her flashlight in the other direction. Something that looked like a greenvelociraptor looked her in the eye. She smiled at Caitlin 2 as if she was saying hello,friend. Caitlin 2 shrieked and jumped back. What do you want me for? The dinosaurhopped closer and kept smiling. Caitlin 2 slowly moved her hand toward the creature andattempted to pet her. As she was rubbing the creatures nose, the creature was purring.Youre not so bad after all.

Caitlin 2 somewhat knew what to make of her new music monster friend.

Do you want to play Yatzee? she asked. The beast looked at her strangely. Iguess thats a no. The monster stuck her nose out. Do you want to be petted again?Caitlin 2 rubbed the monsters nose and the monster purred softly like she did before.You like that, dont you? Caitlin 2 paused between her sentences. Do you have afamily? The monster shook her head, not knowing what a family was. What are youtalking about? Everyone has a family. Otherwise, who would take care of you and loveyou?

Caitlin 2 went into the bathroom and left the monster in her room. A fewmoments later, the front door opened from downstairs. We emerged from that horridwind rush.

Were home! called Daddy. Sorry were late. Caitlin 2 solemnly slinkeddownstairs.

I have a new friend, she said. Shes up here.Oh, said Dad. You mean the one thats in the kitchen? Caitlin 2 ran

downstairs and saw that the monster had eaten all the cookies and cakes that we weresaving for the holiday party we were going to throw. She looked at us in a surprisedmanner and burped. She had chocolate all over her nose!

What do we have here? asked Mom. Caitlin 2 was in denial.A sign from above? she said as an excuse.Were not mad at you, Fruit Pie, said Dad. Were happy. You have your own

music monster again. But you still have to clean up the mess she made.Yes, Daddy.She looks like a fine-looking skipper. Thats what the species is called.Ill name her Cupcake, for the sake of her sweet tooth!

Later that evening, Owen and I were climbing all over Cupcake. We wereannoying her a little bit. We loved how she could hop like a kangaroo, despite the factthat she was a dinosaur. We were aware that her species couldnt talk, but we talked toher anyway.

So, tell me, Cupcake, said Caitlin 2. How old are you? Cupcake held up her

entire claw, which meant she was holding up four fingers. Oh, youre four? Cupcakehopped into the kitchen and pointed to December 6th on the mini calendar attached thefridge. She then held up five fingers.

Youre turning five tomorrow? I asked. We have to throw you a party!Not so fast, Cathy. I heard that something exciting and big happens on a music

monsters fifth birthday. Something unexpected might happen to her.If its something not fit for indoors, then we can take her outside said Owen.

We can go sledding!

Monday, December 6

Caitlin 2, Owen and I were outside in our backyard during the dusk hours.Cupcake was too afraid of stepping outside of the house because she was a reptile and itwas cold outside.

Dont be afraid, Cupcake said Caitlin 2. She grabbed her claw and dragged herto the bottom of the small hill. Caitlin 2 had a thought in her head. Have I ever triedriding you? Cupcake knew what she meant and kneeled down. Good girl! She sat onher back and she stood up again. As she was hopping to the top of the hill, Caitlin 2 wasexcited. If its this much fun riding her to the top, I cant wait to go down!

After Cupcake hopped down with Caitlin 2 on her back she went back up the hill.She immediately bent over backwards a little bit to force Caitlin 2 off.

Whats with you? asked Caitlin 2, That was a little uncalled-for.Maybe she needs a nap I said. Cupcake glowed as bright as the sun just then.Gah! exclaimed Owen. Whats happening?! Cupcake grew bigger and

bigger until she was as big as the tree next to her. Shes huge! I buried my face intoCaitlin 2 because the sight of big monsters terrified me to no end. All of a sudden, shewasnt so cute anymore.

I think shes gonna sleep in the garage tonight said Caitlin 2.

Tuesday, December 7Tokyo, Japan

Remember Haruko and Kiyoshi from the first story? We join them living apeaceful existence with their aunt and uncle. Oh yeah, and cousin Fujita (even though we

dont know what he looks like) was there, too.Haruko was feeding Kiyoshi macaroni and cheese for dinner. Even though shewasnt living in a shack anymore, she still acted as a mother figure toward him. Kiyoshi,who two years old, was sitting in his highchair resisting the attempts to get the food intohis mouth.

Kiyo, youll like this, said Haruko. You havent even tried it. Kiyoshiangrily knocked the spoon out of Harukos hand. She picked up the spoon, put it in thesink and got another one from the drawer. Look, a UFO! Kiyoshi looked up andHaruko shoved the spoonful of macaroni into his mouth. He chewed it up and swallowedit with a satisfied expression on his face.

More! he shouted. Will waddled into the kitchen for something to drink. As he

opened the fridge to get some milk, he decided to talk to Haruko.Haruko, said Will. Theres another rumor in the Rhythm and Melody Worldthat has been confirmed.

What is it this time? asked Haruko.They say that Relteron, the legendary music monster of hate, is going to go on a

rampage. He wants to challenge the musicians to a battle royal.I doubt thatll happen. Besides, doesnt legendary mean of a legend?Oh, theyre real. Do I have to remind you of Cecilia?Youre right.

It was a busy day at the household. I was cutting out paper dolls from a kidsmagazine and dressing them up. Mom was sitting on the couch reading a grown-upmagazine.

Have I ever told you kids about the night that your father proposed to me? sheasked.

Yeah, eleven times, said Caitlin 2.I wanna hear it again, I said. I was always interested in Disney-esque lovestories and my mothers was no exeption.

All right, started Mom. It was in the hay-days of 1992. Your father had justgraduated from college and we were on vacation in merry ol England by the EnglishChannel. We were fighting one afternoon. I think it was something about a grilledcheese sandwich. Anyway, I told him that I never wanted to see him again. It wasespecially bad for him because he had just bought an engagement ring that he was goingto use to propose to me. He was about to sell it at a pawnshop, but he decided to go to aparty at a beach shack first. I was sitting there on the beach, watching seagulls fly acrossthe channel. I looked at the sand and saw a hermit crab. She had come out of her shell

because she had outgrown it. She and the shell were parting. I thought of the hermit crabas myself and the shell as your father. Soon, another bare hermit crab slipped right intothe shell from which the last hermit crab split apart. Was this how our relationship wasgoing to be? Was your father going to be claimed by another woman? I had no hope.Then, I heard music from the shack that the party was taking place in. I Get Around bythe Beach Boys was playing. Out of curiosity, I walked over to the cottage. I opened thedoor and everyone was dancing. Your father was in there dancing with another girl. Ileaned against the door and stared at him. Your father noticed me and pushed the girlaside like garbage. He danced right over to me and we had a great time. That night,when we were watching the sunset, your father proposed to me and I said yes. Wecouldnt stay mad at each other. Since that day, I Get Around was always our song.

I like how you and Dad got back together again through music said Caitlin 2.I guess Im a lucky woman.Daddy ran through the door catching his breath, looking like he had some bad

news.Whats wrong? asked Caitlin 2.He just cant settle down, said Daddy. Hes lost his mind.

A meeting was scheduled at the Frederick E. Paris School of Music that night.All sorts of musicians were there and they werent ashamed of bringing their monsterswith them in public. Marcus Paris, the owner of the music school, and his many musicmonster partners came out to speak.

My fellow musicians he started. There has been a major problem in the

Rhythm and Melody World.Youve got that right! interrupted a listener.Shut up. Now, we have been told that Relteron, the legendary music monster of

hate, is going to completely demolish love all over the universe. The listeners gasped.As you know, thirty years ago this year, he killed the legendary music monster of love,causing nature to go out of balance. He wants to get as many music monsters together aspossible and challenge them to a fight. If he wins, he will cast his dark spell all over thegalaxy.

How about we convince him to bring love back to the Rhythm and MelodyWorld as well? asked Caitlin 2.

Thats a good idea, little lady. Music monsters can feel lonely without biological

families and they can settle their differences between other species a little easier.Not to mention that the planet wont have to work so hard producing melodiesitself said a teenager.

Do we kill this guy or what? asked another listener.We will meet in the Rhythm and Melody World tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM

eastern time for a sneak attack. Marcuss puriku (a fuzzy, little, yellow blob with a tuftof fur on its head) looked up at him.

Is your plan really going to work? she asked. Dont worry, Phoebe. If my plan fails, I have many others.

Wednesday, December 8

The next day, most of the musician kids missed school because of the ambushattack they were going to unleash on Relteron. It was in Blissful Valley, which, then,was a deserted, dark land of death and ashes.

Dad, I think I touched a skeleton, said Caitlin 2.You can wash your hands in that puddle, said Daddy. He pointed to a dirtypuddle that looked like music monsters have used it as a toilet in the past.

Eww. The rest of the group marched over to a hillside. I dont think Cupcakehas battle-mutated before.

Shell be all right. Music monsters catch on fast.Look said a musician. He pointed to a silhouette in the sky that was flying

down to the group of people.What is that? asked a girl. As soon as the silhouette flew closer and showed

itself, it looked like a dark-colored bug with a bow and an arrow.Oh no said Dad. Its a dark loveybug.

Whats a dark loveybug? asked Caitlin 2.Loveybugs are joyful citizens who make music monsters fall in love. Or at least,they used to be. Nearly all of the loveybugs have been turned dark by Relteron except fora few on Romance Mountain. The dark loveybug flew closer to the group and aimed hisdark arrow.

We have to hide and let our music monsters do the work! said Marcus. Thegroup ran behind a bigger hillside leaving their music monsters. The monsters werestanding there, defending the group and preparing for the worst. Pretty soon, more darkloveybugs appeared and dive-bombed the monsters. At that moment, a beautiful thinghappened.

Theyre glowing said Caitlin 2. Most of the music monsters who werentalready at their top levels battle-mutated to that level even Cupcake.

After Cupcake stopped glowing, she looked like a really huge, purple dragon withno legs, just feet. She had lightning-shaped horns and a big X on her side.

Shes humongous! said Caitlin 2. All of top-leveled monsters unleashed theirattacks on the dark loveybugs. In one hit, they were all knocked out.

This seems almost too easy said Travis the Kabuyi (a purple human-like

mammal monster that looks like a kabuki actor). Out of the bowels of a pit came adreaded shadow figure. You could easily tell who he was by the red glowing of his eyes.Daddy, is that-Yes, yes it is said Daddy. The dark, devil-like beast revealed himself asyes

Relteron.Humans! he remarked. Simultaneously, all of the top-leveled monsters

unleashed their attacks once more. Relteron barely flinched. He knew right away thatthere was going to be a battle royal before the battle royal.

This is terrible! said a kid. Out of the grey sky came the flying fox woman weall knew, Cecilia. She was quite angry with her fellow legendary monster.

Whos that? asked Caitlin 2.

Thats Cecilia, said Daddy. Shes a legendary monster who used to be evil,but changed her ways. Cecilia aimed her palm at Relteron.Thunderbolt explosion! she shouted. A flash of sparks formed in her palm. It

blasted at Relteron and a huge blast took place. It lit up the entire valley with theluminosity of a thunderstorm. Four minutes later, the dust cleared and everybodystopped ducking. Relteron was nowhere to be seen.

Did we defeat him? asked Caitlin 2.I doubt that, Fruit Pie. Cecilia flew down toward Caitlin 2 in disappointment.You did pretty well out there said Caitlin 2.You mean besides the fact that I let him get away? asked Cecilia. Caitlin 2

didnt say anything.

I think that I want Relteron to surrender the most, said Cecilia. Why dont we kill him? asked Caitlin 2.Its not easy to kill legendary music monsters. Oddly enough, Nimoni was killed

in an instant. If you kill a legendary music monster, God forbid, nature will go out ofwack and things start to make less sense.

Why do you say that you want him to surrender the most?Because Cecilia paused for a little bit. Because I want a child. No malemonsters are interested in breeding due to the effects of Nimonis death. The averagemusic monsters you humans have were very brave in standing up against Relteron.

What about me? asked a voice. I was in that brawl. Behind the group was areally tall pink anthro music monster who had a weapon and a see-through dress.

Who ARE you? asked Daddy.Im Allana the dynamica. Im not what you call an average music monster.

Im the only one of my species. I was very young when Nimoni was killed. I dontknow why, but the anti-love curse never got to me. And you know why?

Why? asked Caitlin 2.

Because we never needed a music monster of love in the first place. Love can beanywhere that music can be found.Dont give us that bullshit! said a draffon from the group (a chicken-like

gryphon creature).Dont talk back to her! said Caitlin 2.Dont worry, Im used to this. Ive been getting this feedback for most of my

life.

Back at our house, Owen felt left out of the big event and wanted to feel useful.No fair! said Owen. I wanna play a musical instrument and join the battle

too!Owen, you shouldnt start playing and instrument just so you can get a music

monster partner said Caitlin 2.

I wanna save the world! Owen ran to Caitlin 2s bedroom and grabbed themusic instrument catalog. When he got back, he anxiously flipped through the pagesuntil he stopped at one. I wanna play this instrument! He pointed to what looked like around, stout-looking guitar.

You wanna play a cittern?Yes! It looks dependable!We can buy one tomorrow said Mom. But this is the only time I buy

something expensive on such short notice, okay Owen?This isgonna be so great!

Thursday, December 9

Owen had come back from the music store with his dream instrument. Heimmediately took it out of the case and hugged it.

Be careful, Owen said Mom. Owen opened his beginners booklet and readabout how to hold it. He placed it on his lap and plucked a few strings expectingsomething awesome to happen.

Wheres my music monster partner? he asked.You have to be patient, said Caitlin 2. You should play at least one song.An hour had past. We were in the living room feeling excited for Owen, but we

were trying to keep our mind off of that and wait patiently. Owen alerted us from theliving room as soon as he was finished.

I can play a song now! he said. He tuned his cittern to the right key andstrummed at the strings. He played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star all the way throughwithout mistakes.

Im impressed! said Dad. As soon as Owen set the instrument down, a strangeglowing appeared from his lap. The spirit of the Rhythm and Melody World heard hissong and knew what to do. Right there in front of him appeared an egg with redcrescents decorated all over it. Owen was so happy he could barely speak.

Friday, December 10

A normal day had passed. Caitlin 2, Owen and I went to school, Dad went towork and Mom spent some of the day working at her part-time job. It wouldve qualifiedas a normal day, but that wasnt entirely the case.

Later that day, in Brockington Square, the sun appeared to be setting. Restaurantshad their busiest hours and parents were taking their little kids home. Just as people wereabout to keep going on with their normal lives, out of the sky appeared a swirling portal.Everybody looked up at it astounded and frightened.

I was at home when this happened. Dad was watching a special onNBCaboutmouse pads. As I came into the room, the screen of the TV went blank while a man wastalking on the screen. A few seconds later, the news logo lit up on the screen with musicand everything.

We interrupt this pointless program to bring you some breaking news, said theannouncer woman on TV. The screen showed Brockington Square with the dark portalhovering over it. There has been a strange formation over Brockington Square within

the last few hours. People dont know what it is but President Bush says that we shouldgo to war with whichever dimension is responsible for this. More info when it comes.Now, we return you to your normal programming.

My god said Dad. We have to go. Everyone into the car!My egg needs me! panicked Owen from the other room.Take it with you! said Caitlin 2. We all got into the car and drove off. Cupcake

followed us with her rapid speed.When we got to Brockington Square, the entire place was covered with police

tape and many other people and monsters had arrived. Police officers were guarding theperimeters.

We have to get in there! said Daddy.Im sorry, sir, but you cannot cross this line, said the officer.I know all about these problems!This is something that scientists havent even thought up an explanation for yet.Here, Cupcake! called Caitlin 2. Cupcake came trotting over to the policeman

The big, purple portal opened some more. Everyone gasped. Very slowly,something starting emerging from it. It wasnt anything our fellow musicians didnt

know about. It was Relteron.Him again?! said Owen. I hugged my fathers knee. Everywhere, peoplestarted screaming. It was pure pandemonium.

Not all hope was lost. From the other end of the square came a parade of musicmonsters and children from all over the world that had appeared via magical portal travel.

I hear that you need our help, said a French boy (in a French accent, of course).Just in time! said Caitlin 2. A few familiar faces were in the crowd. Haruko

was with her new friend Jayanti and her monster partner. Little Kiyoshi was clutchingonto Haruko. They were riding on Will (who was a top level, a draffon). The reason thatFujita wasnt there was because his music monster didnt care much for battling.Harukos close friend Kagami was with Lilac, who was at her top form, a lyonis (a plant-

like lion that stands on two legs). Cecilia arrived from the sky. Allana had made a grandentrance. Dads old friend Chappie slithered on through (he was a top level, a serpy).Remember Jolie? She was there, too. She had naturally mutated into her super level (aglorygon). The woman who was riding on top of her was none other than my aunt,Caitlin Thatcher the 1st.

Aunt Cait! I cheered from the crowd.Hi, Cathy! said Caitlin. All those musicians were crowding around Relteron.

Caitlin 2 decided to ride of top of Cupcake.I see people have decided to take my challenge, said Relteron, Over twenty

years have passed and I can finally see if human and music monster bond has proveditself worthy to the likes of me.

Cant you see, Relteron? asked Allana. Were going to stop you. You cantspread hate across this galaxy. Its not possible. Were going to convince that to you andtheres nothing you can do or say thats gonna change our minds!

I am going to prove you wrong in a short time, said Relteron. Let the battleroyal begin! He flew up into the air and fluttered his wings toward the disappearingvortex.

I think hes chicken! said Owen.No- said Caitlin 2. I think he wants to fight in the sky.

All of the monsters flew into the sky to challenge Relteron. All at once, theyrapidly mutated to their strongest level just like they did the other day. Cupcake flew upand followed the other monsters. Everyone on the ground was gazing at the fight thatwas just beginning. All of the monsters attacks pummeled Relteron with might. Theattacks knocked Relteron senseless, but that wasnt enough for him.

Bomb stream! he shouted. An orange beam of light with orange spheresdancing inside of it blasted out of his mouth and hit all of the monsters at once. Anumber of monsters were knocked out instantly. When Mom looked away from thebattle, she noticed that Owen was gone.

Owen! she called. Owen! Caitlin 2 and I were sitting by the side of a giftshop when Mom ran over to us. Have you seen Owen?

Yes, said Caitlin 2. Hes in that alley. She pointed to the alley in betweenthe gift shop and the bakery. All three of us went over there and found Owen. He wassitting on the ground and cradling his egg. Owen, you shouldnt be in this alley.

Are you afraid? I asked.No!said Owen. My egg isnt hatching.

You have to give it some time, said Caitlin 2.But Relteron is trying to destroy the world!Im sorry, Owen, but you shouldve thought about owning a music monster

ahead of time. Owen got up and ran past Mom and Caitlin 2 out of the alley. Whereare you going?!

Owen searched around the square like a madman until he found a girl from hisclass. He immediately ran up to her with his egg.

Hey, Elaine said Owen.Hi, Owen said the girl.Can you watch this?Uh sure.

A fierce battle was raging in the sky. All of the monsters unleashed their attacksmaniacally. Relteron wasnt tired. He was still fluttering in the air and launching hisattacks.

Well, Allana, have you given up? asked Relteron.Fat chance! said Allana. Angelic crush! She faced her palms directly toward

Relteron and a million tiny halos started swirling about. All at once, the halos blastedtoward him and a powerful exploding sounded. Relteron was greatly affected by theattack and nearly fell to the ground, but pulled himself together and fluttered upwards.

Owen was starring up at the battle from the crowd. He was a bit shorter thaneverybody, but he didnt need to be that tall to view the fight.

Woo-hoo, go Allana! he said. Allana looked down at the crowd and saw thatthey were rooting for her. She smiled back at them. Unfortunately, she didnt noticeRelterons bomb stream attack rushing right toward her. When she looked, she saw aglimpse of it and procrastinated. The attack pounded her right out of the sky and into theground. Everyone ran off in different directions as instinct told them. Caitlin 2, Owenand I ran right over to her motionless body to see if she was all right.

Are you okay? I asked.I think Im getting too old for battling, said Allana.Oh. Cupcake was still in the air leaving scars on Relterons face with her big

claws. Relterons attacks were becoming more and more powerful each time. Mom andDad were noticing his unbelievable power from the mouth of the foutain.

I dont understand, said Mom. Its like Relteron is getting stronger each timehes hit.

Yes, said Duncan. Its like attacking him isnt working.Then how do we stop him?We can only hope for a way, Honey.Meanwhile, Elaines voice could be heard from an alleyway. It took awhile for

Owen to notice from the chattering of the crowd.Owen! she called. Owen heard her voice and tried looking for her. He knew it

was rude, but he pushed people out of the way to get to her quickly.Elaine! he called.Owen! Owen saw a hand waving from the alleyway. It was Elaines hand. He

approached the alley to see what was the matter. Youll never believe this! Owenpeeked into the alley and saw something surprising. Its triplets! On the ground of thealley were three drakoros (little blob monsters with small, pointed ears and a squiggle ontheir heads).

Most of the monsters became too tired to fight and they reverse-mutated back totheir current stages. The fight in the sky was still raging on, even after two hours.

Shouldnt you be fighting cancer, old woman? asked Relteron.I may be old, but Im not down and out! said Allana. She slapped Relteron in

the face with all her might like he was a man who cheated on her. Caitlin 2 was

comforting Cupcake, who was at her jr. advanced form aldebaron again. She was sittingand shaking because of the trauma she tried to endure.There, there said Caitlin 2. You stay out of it for a while. I rushed over to

her to tell her about the blessing that came over Owen.Caitlin, Caitlin, Caitlin! I shouted.What, what, what?Owen, Owen, Owen!Yeah, yeah, yeah? I caught my breath for a few seconds before telling herthe

rest of the news.Owens music monsters have hatched! Caitlin felt happy for Owen just then,

but then she realized what was unusual about what I said.

Wait a sec did you just say music monSTERS? I grabbed Caitlin 2 by herhand and walked over to the alleyway where Owen and Elaine were. As soon as we werethere, I ran off.

To her surprise, Elaine and Owen were looking after the little drakoros as thoughthey were their own flesh and blood. Owen was still kind of shocked.

You got triplets?! exclaimed Caitlin 2.Yes, said Owen. He pointed to each of them as he introduced them to her. I

named this one Spitfire, I named this one Claudia and I named this one Billy-Bob-Joe-Bob-Joe.

I must say, you gave your third one an um interesting name. Owen pickedBilly-Bob up and started smiling at him. Billy-Bob smiled back as if they werecommunicating somehow.

Elaine, Caitlin 2 and the newborn music monsters sought shelter inside Claysmusic store, which was open, but abandoned. Caitlin 2 looked out the window andviewed the battle, which more music monsters joined, but were having trouble winning.With each hit, Relteron was getting more powerful and nobody knew why.

This battle isnt getting anywhere, said Caitlin 2 worryingly.

I wish I had my music monster, said Elaine. Caitlin 2 became curious.You were a musician kid?Yeah, I used to sing. I had a nixie named Wesley. He was little and round and

pink and cute. He got sick and died when he was a week old. After that, I just stoppedsinging for good.

I know what you mean. My cousin Eric died of leukemia last year. He was onlyfour years old. Caitlin 2 and Elaine sighed simultaneously at the tragedies that occur intheir lives.

Its nice that Im taking care ofthese three music monsters in the mean timeespecially since theyre Owens monsters.

What do you mean?

Well, I first met Owen when we were about four or four-and-a-half. We were inthe sandbox at the park and we started playing near each other. We grew quite attachedto each other that day. I have a few more years left in me, said Chappie. Chappie looked at Dad.Weve spent some good times together. I was around when you graduated from highschool. I was also around when your offspring were born. Right then, Chappie flashedback nine years ago. Dad brought Owen to the Rhythm and Melody World for the firsttime. Owen was in his little baby carrier with a white blanket covering him. As soon asDad set him down, he left Chappies cave to ask monsters to help him build a tall lookoutnext to the cave. Owen started crying and fussing just then. Chappie felt sorry for him,so he rocked his baby carrier with his tail and Owen fell asleep.

Caitlin 2 solemnly walked over to Mom and tapped her shoulder. Mom shrieked.Dont scare me like that! she exclaimed.I didnt mean to, said Caitlin 2. Elaine, Spitfire, Claudia and Billy-Bob-Joe-

Bob-Joe caught up with Caitlin 2 and stood there. Anyway, I had an epiphany.

talk about something.Chappie, said Cecilia in a heartwarming tone.Yeah? said Chappie.You know how as soon as we defeat Relteron, well try to convince him to make

music monsters fall in love again? Well, I was thinking. If that plan works, will youmate with me? Chappie was flabbergasted. A question like this took some thinking.

What did you say?!You look like a good father figure. A child is one thing that youve been

missing all your life.But youre a humanoid and Im well a serpent.It doesnt matter, as long as were music monsters. Thats how it was in the

good ol days. Chappie thought about it some more.Alright, Ill mate with you, but thats ONLY if we can convince Relteron toreverse his curse.

Oh, Chappie, youve made me the happiest music monster in all of the Rhythmand Melody World! Cecilia hugged Chappie and happily groaned.

Hey, watch the fin!Dad was sitting on the fountain with his saxophone next to him. He played a

scale since he didnt have any sheet music to keep him busy.Did you hear Caitlins theory? asked Mom.No, said Dad. What is it?Hate is only making Relteron stronger and the way to defeat him is to be nice to

him.You know, Honey, I understand that war isnt always the answer, but being nice

to him will Dad thought about whatCaitlin had said. Actually, that isnt a badidea.

The theory spread around to the other music monsters and humans until everyoneknew about it.

Haruko, Kiyoshi and Jayanti were in a caf eating cookies (yes, there was servicein the caf, even though the world was about to be overpowered by darkness and hatred).

I heard from Akuti that attacking Relteron isnt the way, said Jayanti.

What do you mean? asked Haruko.Im not sure.Outside, Will the miwreckmore was looking toward the sky. Elaine, Spitfire,

Claudia and Billy-Bob were there, too.Im going up there, said Will.Youre going to fight again? asked Elaine, who didnt know who this monster

was.No, Im going to be nice. Will squatted down for a few seconds and then

flew into the sky like a rocket. On his way to the clouds, he battle-mutated into a draffonagain. Relteron, making circles in the sky, noticed the little trooper.

Fool! said Relteron. Cant you realize that youre doomed?!

Yes. Im just here to say that we should be friends. Relterons jaw dropped.Youve gotta be kidding me! he said. Chappie floated down from the sky andtold everyone about what is happening.

A draffon is trying to be friendly to Relteron, he said.A music monster being gayto another music monster? asked a kid. I never

thought Id see the day.Will was being nice to Relteron while foolishly keeping himself vulnerable to

possible attacks. He was also smiling in a way that looked creepy.So you see, said Will. Niceness makes everyone happy, because happy people

are-Oh, shut up! interrupted Relteron. He head butted Will in the stomach. Will

fell out of the sky almost unconscious and before he reached the ground, he reverse-mutated back into a miwreckmore. As he was about to land on his head, Allana caughthim and set him on the ground. That wasnt all that Allana was going to do. She flewinto the sky towards Relteron to seek revenge the nice way, like Will did.

What does she think shes doing? asked Caitlin 2.We should let her do what she wants, said Dad.

Allana flew up to Relteron and starred him in the face.You should understand that love is stronger than hate, said Allana.Not if youre defeated first! said Relteron. Out of his mouth came his bomb

stream attack. Because of Allanas old age, she was weaker than she used to be. Theattack inflicted what seemed like eternal pain.

Down at the caf, Jayanti, Haruko and Kiyoshi were looking out the window.They were still there despite the fact that they had finished their lattes and cookies anhour ago.

Shes back in the game! said Haruko.Up in the sky, Allana was busy guarding the well being of the world and the rest

of the universe. She wasnt going to let his spell of darkness overtake everything.Move, you knave! said Relteron. Death wing! A strange dark force emerged

from his wings and struck Allana at a light speed force. Allana groaned in pain as aresult.

Elaine was sitting with Owen on a bench. He was clutching on to his musicmonsters because he was as scared as they were. Elaine was scared, too, so she took one

of the drakoros without asking and hugged it. Relteron unleashed an attack from hishands and a light filled up the entire sky. Everyone down on earth covered their eyes.From the center of the flash, the light started disappearing. Caitlin 2 opened her eyes andsaw that the flash was gone.

Wheres Allana? she asked.

Allana was nowhere to be seen, not on the ground or in the sky. Caitlin 2 didntwant to believe that she was finally gone, but this may have been the case. Dad cameover to Caitlin 2 to comfort her.

I think shes made her last stand, he said.The important thing is that she tried, said Chappie the serpy. I wandered off

without Mom or Dad realizing it. Before I knew it, I was outside of the square and on theside of the highway.The highway didnt have many cars on it. People were too afraid that an attack

might rain down from the sky or something. Over where the highway forked was noneother than Allana lying still on the ground. She was too weak to face Relteron anymoreand she knew that she had reached the end of her long life. Even opening her eyes was astruggle for her.

Allana? I pondered. I ran over and talked to heras fast as my little legs couldtake me. What are you doing? At that age, I didnt fully understand death, so Icouldnt make much of the situation.

Im too hurt to go on, she said. I tried convincing everyone about my love

theory but they wouldnt listen. Im going to do something I planned on doing allmy life.What?Goodbye, young human. Allana closed her eyes and stopped breathing.

Eventually, her pulse slowed down to the point where there was barely a beat comingfrom her. I came closer and didnt say a word. All of a sudden, a swarm of music notesand white stuff started flying out of her torso. Little did I know that this was her soul. Itdeparted her body in such a mysterious and beautiful way that words alone couldntdescribe it.

Meanwhile, at the squareMom, I cant find Cathy anywhere! shrieked Caitlin 2.Where did you last see her? asked Mom.I cant find Allana either!

Caitlin 2 wandered out of the square to go looking for Allana and me. She feltirresponsible for letting me wander, but I couldnt blame her. There were better things tolook at than just me.

Cathy! she called. She wandered until she came to the intersection whereAllana and I were. Caitlin 2 was even more surprised to see that Allana was dying right

there. Oh my god! She ran over to me and watched as Allanas soul was floating awayfrom her body. Caitlin 2 missed the death, but got a spectacular idea just then. Comewith me, Cathy! She grabbed my hand and left the scene with me.

When we got back to the square, everyone was still staring at the sky. Relteronsucceeded in knocking out every monster and he was preparing to unleash darkness intothe atmosphere.

You weaklings have failed to surpass my power, he said, In this galaxy,nobody shall love anymore. Nobody shall experience joy, only sorrow! The darknesshe generated started spreading and there was nothing we could do about it or wasthere? Caitlin 2 and I ran up the stairs of The Melting Pot Bakery until we got to therooftop. Caitlin 2 grabbed a megaphone and stood where everyone could see her.

Attention, everyone! she shouted from the megaphone. Our love WILL stopRelteron.It didnt work when I tried it, said Will from the crowdYeah, said another monster. Music monsters arent capable of love anymore.You are the most pathetic bunch of sad sacks Ive seen yet! You dont need a

friggin god to fall in love! Love was inside you all this time!This is the same trash that came from Allanas mouth! said Akuti the

bambacoot.Well, shes right! Theres love in music! Music monsters have feelings! Allana

rescued that miwreckmore from falling to his death! Would she have done that if shecouldnt love?! Everyone was starting to feel convinced. My parents have theirsong. If it werent for that song they wouldnt have made up after that fight and theywouldnt be married to this day! Fellow music monsters, look deep inside yourselves andfind the love!

Hey, said Chappie. I CANfeel love!Me too! said another monster.Im glad that you all understand! said Caitlin 2. If Allana was alive to see this,

shed be proud! All of a sudden, the swarm of music notes and white stuff camestreaming through the sky and the darkness stopped expanding. Caitlin 2 put down themegaphone and watched.

Thank you said Allanas voice. No one knew where her voice was comingfrom.

Its a sign! said the reverend of a local church. Im going to use my love to make everything better. Relteron flew down from

the sky and examined what was going on. All of a sudden, Allanas streaming soul

shrunk into a tiny ball. Everything went silent.What is she doing? asked Owen. Relteron flew closer and watched the ball as ifhe was going to attack it. Just then

BAM!!!

Allanas soul burst out and covered everything in sight. Her huge soul, whichwas now pink and red, rained from the sky in melodic streams.

No! shouted Relteron. Whats happening?Ill tell you whats happening! said Caitlin 2, Love!Everything is too nice! I cant take it anymore! Relteron screamed until he and

the darkness he generated was finally wiped away by the force. At that moment,everybody was convinced that love could overpower hate.The whole area was one big love affair; people hugged and kissed. My parents

did both at the same time. All of the music monsters in the square began glowing andshrinking. They had lost so much energy from the battle that they reverse-mutated all theway back to their infant stages! The monsters were finally at their level of rest.

In the background there were sounds of little bells tinkering. Everyone foundtheir monster partners. Cupcake reverse-mutated back to her baby stage, kawaii (a round,green blob with round ears).

Im so proud of you, Cupcake! said Caitlin 2. She hugged Cupcake, but shecouldnt hug back because she had no arms. The music school president, Marcus Paris,

wanted to make an announcement to make this Disney ending official.Everyone, said Marcus. Nobody listened. He decided to speak louder.Everyone?! Still, nobody heard him. He finally put two of his fingers in his mouth andmade a loud whistling sound. Everyone turned his way and started paying attention tohim. Thank you. As youve noticed, your music monsters have all reverse-mutatedback to their infant forms. Dont panic, your monsters will return to normal in a coupleof days. They have just lost a large amount of energy and they will regain it again. Weshould all be thankful for Allana, for not only has she stopped Relteron and his powers ofdarkness, she has also taught monsters to love again. This means that music monster cannow have families. Not only that, after a music monster dies, it can have its melodiesfloat into the universe so someone can play them through their instruments. Music

monsters will no longer reincarnate as often. Cecilia was so happy she could barelyspeak.I cant believe it! she said. Did you hear that, Chappie? We can now have a

baby!How about we wait another week or so for this? asked Chappie the elbub,

feeling unsure about himself. After all, I DID turn back into a little baby elbub.Alright.Elaine was starring at a puddle with a happy look on her face, though it also

seemed sad. Owen couldnt help but feel sorry for her.Elaine, started Owen. Ive decided Ive heard about your monsters passing

and everything and I were thinking how would you like it if I gave you one of mymonsters? Elaine looked up in surprise.

Youreally mean it? asked Elaine.Yep. You can have Claudia. Owen picked up one of his drakoros and gave her

to Elaine. Elaine was smiling down at Claudia and she was smiling back at her. Then,Elaine started frowning again. Whats wrong? Elaine was silent for a few seconds.

Its nice of you to offer me one of your music monsters, but I think Claudia isbetter off with you. I dont play the cittern, so I dont deserve her. You should be herowner. Elaine gave the drakoro back to Owen.

Gee, thanks. Caitlin 2, noticing the conversation, approached the two children.That was a very wise andmature decision you made, she said. Elaine felt proud

of herself. She was on her way to making wise choices in life.

All of the music monsters who had participated in the big battle graduallyreturned to their normal stages and made full recoveries. We had made history four daysbefore. The Love Revolution was over.

It was an afternoon in the glowing fields. The long grass swaying in the breezelooked like regularbecause it wasnt nighttime yet. At night, the entire field would glowa beautiful greenish-yellow color.

My entire family was in a flat spot with no grass enjoying the remainder of theday. Cecilia was there, too. Owen was sitting down and playing his cittern. Hismonsters, Spitfire, Claudia and Billy-Bob-Joe-Bob-Joe, were playing with Cupcake, whowas an aldebaron again. They were using her tail as a slide, a massaging affect forCupcake. Chappie, who was once again a serpy, was basking in the sun, which issomething that you wouldnt picture a sea serpent doing. A rustling was heard throughthe grass. The miwreckmore we all know as Will waddled out and looked around.

Hey, Haruko, Jayanti, Akuti, Kiyoshi, there are other humans here said Will.

The two girls and Akuti emerged from the grasses. Kiyoshi tagged along shortly after.Caitlin 2 noticed the strange girls and was curious about them.Hello she said. Who are you guys?Im Haruko, shes Jayanti and this is my baby brother, Kiyoshi.Dont forget us! said Will, talking about himself and Akuti.Yeah, them too.Im Caitlin and my family is here, said Caitlin 2. Oh, that reminds me. Is there a Chappie Thatcher here? Chappie heard his

name being called and opened his eyes.Im Chappie Thatcher, said Chappie. What is it?Before Allana passed on, she left something behind for you or should I say

someTHINGS? Out of the blades of grass came these little baby monsters who lookedkind of like green dandelion seeds.

Daddy! shrieked one of them.Hold the phone what did you address me as? asked Chappie. All eleven of

the baby monsters bounced around their father. This was all too sudden for Chappie.Chappie, welcome to the downside of love, a.k.a. parenthood said Duncan.

Cecilia flew over, obviously disappointed.Hehehe what a surprise all these monsters and suchThat Allana was such a tramp! said Cecilia. Forget it, Chappie. The deal we

made is off. Caitlin 2 went over and comforted Cecilia in her time of betrayal.Dont give up hope, Cecilia said Caitlin 2. As a legendary music monster, you

get to live forever so there are plenty of other chances to have a child. Chappie rolledhis eyes and sighed while his little ones were frolicking around him.

Why did Allana have to die? he asked, Ill bet she died of old age to escapesuch a responsibility.

played the violin, too.So my daddy got three monsters? asked little May.He was one of the lucky ones. He didnt tell you?MY daddy sure was brave, said little Ayami.Yes, he was only a baby. He also didnt contribute much to the story.What did my mom want to do to Owens mom? asked Mitchell.Well it was several times that she tried to sneak up on my mom with a plastic

The monsters are all saddled up! said a tall, blond teen. He was Harukos son,Taro. There were ten skippers all with saddles on their backs. The children ran over tothem and got on their backs with the help of Taro. After everyone got on, Taro got on hisown Skipper, too. Cmon, lets play follow the leader! Ill be the leader! As quickas a wink, they dashed away into the meadow.

My son and daughter are both riding on one skipper, said Cathy, narratingagain. They know the true power of love. My father and his sister learned it after a longsibling rivalry they had and we learned it in the Love Revolution. Allana isnt entirelygone; her love is still all around us; in the sky, in the sea and on the land. I dont see thisas the beginning of the end, but rather the end of the beginning. My third child is goingto be born soon and I want him to experience the joy that these children are feeling.These children and their monsters are lucky enough to go on adventures, make newfriends and explore a place beyond their wildest dreams.
