3. COSTUMES La Marimonda, is the most popular costume because
it is the only costume originated in Barranquilla. Other
traditional customs are El garabato, El Africano, Dracula, El
torito, EL Congo, El Monocuco, Los Cabezones, Las Mueconas, and El
Tigrillo.
4. MUSIC AND DANCING. The music contains a mixture of cumbia,
mapale, gaita, chand, puya, fandango, and fantastic merecumbs.
5. RIO CARNIVAL. The biggest carnival in the world with two
million people per day on the streets. The first festivals of Rio
date back to 1723.
6. DANCING AND MUSIC. The most famous dance is carnival samba,
a Brazilian dance with African influences.
7. Queens of Carnival. The Queen of the Carnival in Rio de
Janeiro and a passista Having the Duty to woo the revelry, with

8. Where to stay? Zona Sul (Southern Rio) Copacabana and
Ipanema together form a "big stage" offering "Carnival" at every
corner. Leblon, being a bit more upscale is also an excellent
location. Most hotels only offer a fixed-rate 4- 5 night package
during Carnival, against prepayment.
