Examples of his workBeggars – You and Me

Grant gee uses lots of close up shots here. They show us who the artist is.

He also uses lots of simple effects (like the negative style on the left, and the green wash on the right)

In this video he also uses lots of ‘quirky’ shots, that set the scene. (below) where we see a shot of the artists legs, and the drum kit.

He also uses an ‘as live’ style of a performance in this video.

Keane – perfect symmetry

Again there are lots of close ups, in the shot above the image of the singer fades out as the next location comes into view.

the image of the waterfall is different to lots of other images Gee uses because it is ‘on location’ and it is also high angled.

This shot is good because the use of the mirrored room gives a good effect and makes it an original image.

The use of lighting in this video is also very effective as Gee uses flashing lights in sequence during some shots.

I also think that the use of signs in the video is also very clever and could give out a different message.

Coldplay - shiver

Gee has once again used his signature shot of the band in action as well as the typical close up shots of the vocalist. however the location does seem bare.

This shot is interesting because it has something in the foreground, which is out of focus and therefore distracts us (somewhat) from the background image of the vocalist,

The shot to the right is a ‘quirky’ shot of a piece of musical equipment. Although it seems like just a random shot, it works well when there are lots of similar shots in the video.

Grant Gee.

Grant Gee’s music videos are very mainstream, and you can see he has a signature style that he uses through out nearly all his videos. These include: Close up shots of the vocalist, wide band shots, the band filmed playing live, artistic shots of individual items, e.g. the lighting box in the Keane video and the amp in the Coldplay video and lots of Effects added during editing, like the negative effect in the beggars video. He generally doesn't use a strong narrative (However there is some narrative). I like Gee’s work because he films in a very Simple way, then he uses effects really well to make the images stand out.
