I love the way these shots in Calvin Harris’ music video has been
edited because it gives a very edgy and alternative vibe. The
model, Gigi Hadid, who features in this video is making lots of
hand and head movements that has been sped up and slowed
down during editing to make it look like something you might see
in a horror movie. This is very alluring and it completely contrasts
with the genre of the music and the rest of the video
LightingThe use of lighting also ties in with the general editing style of this video and keeps it captivating and interesting. The cool tones suggest a slightly sinister feeling to the video, along with the fast editing and the unexplained narrative at the beginning. This makes the audience ask lots of questions.
Camera shotClose up and extreme close up shots of the model is very interesting because as …. Said, a lot of music videos tend to focus in directly on the celebrity. This is something I would like to include when I make my music video.
Mis-en-sceneThe only thing we can see in this shot is Gigi and that directs our focus to her. This could make us more aware of what is about to happen next in the video and give us an indication that all eyes need to be on her. She completely fills the shot and the use of position and posture could show signs of helplessness, confusion and distress. This will link to the narrative of the video which our audience is engaging in.
The narrative shots which all seem to be shot from a extreme long shot or a long shot really show the mis-en-scene and create the atmosphere for the music video
I want to include similar scenes and shots to these in my music video, especially ones at the beach of people having fun, as this is similar to what I invision my genre and style of music to be like when reflecting visually.
