10/03/16 Recently deceased music personalities
Already this year, many people in the music industry have passed away . On Jan-uary 10th the world was shocked by the news that David Bowie had passed away after losing his battle to cancer. His career began in 1962, however his first album didn't come out until 1967. Bowie continued to produce music in the same
style until 1972 when he created Ziggy Stardust . Ziggy Stardust was an alter-ego David created for on stage. He wore makeup and extravagant costumes which were
looked down on by anyone other than the younger gen-
eration, who were in-spired by the new wave . In 2004, he did his last tour. Following that he made no public appear-ances until 2013. He then released a new album, The Next Day. Just two days before his death, his last album Blackstar came out.
It sold 146,000 in the first week and 181,000 in Ameri-ca . Tributes from all over the world were posted on social media and many artists shared their experi-ences with Bowie. Overall he had 5 no.1s , 25 top 10s and spent 13 weeks in the no.1 spot. David Bow-ie inspired generations of young music lovers and changed the way music is today .
Another loss too the music industry this year was a new and upcom-ing band called Viola Beach . All four band members and their manager died in a trag-ic accident in Stock-holm, Sweden. The band were travelling over a bridge in their car when it plunged into a canal 80ft below them. When the acci-dent was investigated by Swedish police they said they couldn't find a cause for the acci-dent. They were de-scribed as indie pop and had only been to-gether since May last year. Because of their tragic death fans of the band decided they wanted to get their sin-gle, swings and waterslides, to no.1 . The fans succeed and the band reached no.1 in the iTunes chart , they were also support-ed by Liam Gallagher who urged fans to buy the single .
One of the most recent deaths was Sir George Martin , who died at the age of 90 . Sir George signed the Beatles in 1962 and produced all their early albums , which are re-ferred to as their best years . He signed them after they auditioned for him in Abbey Road studios . After this Sir George had a reputa-tion and many famous artists worked with him such as ,Cilla Black ,Elton John , Jeff Beck and many more . He had won 6 Gram-mys and been Knighted in 2002 and also pro-duced many award winning songs . When the news about his death got out tributes poured in from people who had worked with him in his life . Paul McCartney released a statement saying how he had been like a “second father to him“ , Elton John also honoured him by say-ing “ So sad to hear about Sir George . It is the end of a wonderful era . He was a de-lightful ,brilliant man .”
