Founded in 2008, the Museum is dedicated to the Art of Design in all disciplines of Florida Architecture. The Museum’s mission is the innovation of public education, while creating awareness towards Florida Architecture. The location of the site, and the large scale surrounding context, plays an integral part to the modest scale of the Museum. This unique opportunity at hand allows for the Museum to become a desired character in the local community. It sets an atmosphere for social interaction, a place to go and relax for lunch or meet a colleague for coffee. This small scale museum encourages pedestrian traffic, while using sustainable strategies. The building harnesses energy from the sun to heat water, as well as collects energy through photovoltaics located on the south facade. The green roofs not only better insulate the building, and deter the heat island affect, but also provide an attractive view to look down upon from the surrounding high rise buildings .
