LAST TiME OUT
vs. Austin Peay (W 34-18) Oct. 10 at Stewart Stadium MURRAY, Ky.- The Murray State football team turned in one of its most balanced performances in recent memory in a 34-18 win over Austin Peay in Murray in front of a large Homecoming crowd at Stewart Stadium Saturday. The usually pass-heavy MSu offense was still effective with 286 yards in the air, but the racers also found their ground attack in the contest rushing for 240 yards, the most against a Division I opponent since 2013. Murray State scored twice in the first quarter on short runs by KD Humphries and roman clay and jumped out to an early 14-0 lead. After Austin Peay cut the lead to 14-6 at the end of the first quarter, Murray State forced and recovered a Governor fumble for the second time in the game. On the ensuing drive, clay would score again to make it 21-6 and with MSu never looking back from that point on. Austin Peay went on to outscore Murray State 12-3 in the second half, but the damage was already done thanks to a 31-point first half effort by the racers.
SATURDAY'S OPPONENT:at UT Martin Skyhawks Oct. 24, 2015 2 p.m. Hardy M. Graham Stadium

THE iNSiDE TRACKSATURDAY'S WEATHERSaturday will see warmer temperatures than earlier in the week, with a high of 72°F and a low of 57°F. However, light rain is expected earlier in the day with showers to follow in the afternoon. Overall, there is a 70% chance of rain for the day with winds coming out of the south at up to 10 mph. SOLiD MASON-RY WORKBefore the bye week, senior Demetrius Mason was honored for his efforts against Austin Peay as the OVc Defensive Player of the Week. Mason turned in a truly balanced performance in which he had three solo tackles, 1.0 tackle-for-loss, a blocked kick, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. LEADER OF THE PACKKD Humphries is currently the top quarter-back in the country in three different statisti-cal categories. He now leads the nation in total passing yards at 2,110, passing yards per game at 351.7 and completions per game at 32.17. DYNAMiC DUOJeremy Harness and Paul rice are currently two of the top receivers in the country, as they are fifth and seventh, respectively, at 8.3 and 8.0 per game. STAYiNG 100With 118 rushing yards against Austin Peay and 148 yards Southeast Missouri, roman clay became Murray State's first running back to post back-to-back 100-plus yard rushing in over two years. The last racer to do so was Jaamal Berry in 2013, who had 146 and 134 yards against Austin Peay and uT Martin, respectively. ALL GOOD THiNGS Jeremy Harness totaled just 73 yards against Austin Peay, bringing an end to hisstring of five straight games with 100-plus yards to begin the season. Despite the setback, Harness is still fifth in the nation in receiving yards at 680 and seventh in receiv-ing yards per game at 113.3.

UP NEXTnext Saturday, Murray State will return to Stewart Stadium for its penultimate home game of the season against Eastern Illinois. Kick-off on Halloween is scheduled for 1 p.m. WELCOME HOMEThis week's game will mark the annual Homecoming festivities for Murray State. The date and its traditionally large crowd has proved helpful for the racers in recent history as they have lost just once in the last five Homecoming games. WELCOME HOME: PART 2As part of the homecoming festivities, the 1995 & 1996 OVc championship MSu football teams will be honored Friday and Saturday for the 20th anniversary of the 1995 title. Houston nutt, head coach of both teams, and members of those teams will be honored at halftime and will also be available for a media Q&A from 12-1 p.m. in Tent city. STREAK ENDERFor the first time since the Austin Peay game last season, KD Humphries failed to pass for a touchdown Saturday. Despite the fact he did not score through the air for the first time in nine games, Humphries was still 37-for-59 in the game for 368 yards with just one pick, marking his fourth 300-plus yard game of the season.
FANTASTiC FiVESenior Jeremy Harness set a new school record Saturday, by recording his fifth con-secutive game of 100-plus yards receiving. The previous record of four was held by a pair of racers in Marcus Harris from 2010 and Walter Powell from 2012. Harness finished the game with 117 yards on 12 catches.
ROMAN EMPiREFor the first time since the Kentucky Wes-leyan game in 2014, Murray State had a 100-yard plus rusher last Saturday. roman clay rushed for a career-high 148 yards on 16 carries with one touchdown for an aver-age of 9.3 yards per carry.
PLAYiNG CLEANThe two teams combined for a Murray State season-low 54 penalty yards on Saturday. The racers were penalized just twice for 24 yards, while SEMO was penalized three times for only 30 yards. NEW RECORD, NEW HONORWith 6.0 tackles for loss Saturday night; Elijah Daniel set a new school single-game record in just his fourth game as a racer. His performance earned him the title of OVc newcomer of the Week. The previous record of 5.5 was set by Anthony Hutch against uT Martin in 1996. Daniel led Murray State in the game with nine total tackles, to go along with 2.5 sacks and a hurry.
YOU COMPLETE MEAfter leading the nation in completions per game a year ago at 26.58 per game, KD Humphries is once again leading the nation in that category 31.00 per game. He is also completing passes at 68.5 percent which ranks him ninth in the nation and first in the OVc. FOUR-FOR-FOURWith 115 yards Saturday, Jeremy Harness has now tallied at least 100 yards receiving in each of the four games this season. Walter Powell set the record for 100-plus yard games in a season with six in 2012. Harness joins teammate Janawski Davis and three other players tied for fourth on the list with four each. The game also gives him seven 100-plus yard games for his career, with Walter Powell holding that record as well, at 10.
2015 Murray State Football Game Notes 13
THE iNSiDE TRACKMORE FUN WiTH FOURIn addition to climbing the season and career charts for 100-yard game, Harness is now only the third player in MSu history to string together a school record four consecutive 100-plus yard receiving games. He now shares the honor with Marcus Harris from 2010 and Walter Powell from 2012.
THiRD AND OUTThe Murray State defense was clutch on third down Saturday, limiting the Golden Eagle offense to just one third down conver-sion in 17 tries.
CAREER NiGHTKD Humphries set a new career-high Satur-day with 491 passing yards. Humphries has now passed for 300-plus yards in three out four games this season and in seven of his last eight. The game will also go down as the fourth 400-plus yard game of his career.
HiSTORY REPEATiNGFor the second time in his career Satur-day, Janawski Davis scored three receiving touchdowns in a game. He finished Saturday night with 140 yards on seven catches. Davis previously caught three touchdown passes in the opener last season against union (Ky). OVC OPENERSMurray State is now 29-39 all-time in OVc openers and 16-17 in the friendly confines. Tennessee Tech has been a frequent open-ing opponent over the years with teams facing off 33 times previous to lead off OVc play. TTu leads the season-opening series between the teams at 21-13 and now also leads 9-8 in Murray.
KEEPiN' iT 100Through three games this season, Jer-emy Harness has surpassed the 100-yard plateau in each and is currently averaging 125.0 yards per game. His 375 total yards and 125.0 per game currently lead the OVc and rank him fourth and eighth in all of FcS, respectively.
TRUE GRiTMurray State started a season-high three true freshmanat WMu with offensive play-ers chris White, Drew rutland and Kwan Stallworth all getting the nod. It was the third start for White, the second for rutland and first for Stallworth. Three other true freshmen also saw significant action in the contest with Marquez Sanford, rashad John-son and Silas Owens seeing action on the defensive side of the ball.
OMLi-VOREJunior transfer Toby Omli racked up a career-high 15 tackles on Saturday night at WMu, with seven going down as unassisted. The 15 tackles are the most by a racer in a single-game so-far this season. Omli has slowly, but surely, settled into his new team after recording three tackles against Ken-tucky Wesleyan and six at northern Illinois.
FUMBLE-AYAFor the second straight game, Murray State recovered a pair of fumbles with Joey cicoria and Demetric Johnson doing the honors at Western Michigan. cicoria's fumble was unforced, while DeAndre cooper caused the one recovered by Johnson.
REACHiNG A NEW STRATTON-SPHEREPunter Landon Stratton finished Saturday's game with a 40-yard plus average for the first time this season, punting the ball five times at an average of 46.6 yards a punt. The 46.6 yards on Saturday bests his previous season-high of 39.9 set at northern Illinois. In addition, he set a new career long of 55 yards and had two 50-plus yard punts for the second time this season. For his perfor-mance, he was rewarded with MSu's first OVc weekly honor of the season. YOUTH MOVEMENTThe youngest coach in each subdivision of Division I football will take the field Saturday when the youngest FcS coach, Mitch Stew-art, meets the youngest FBS coach, P.J. Fleck. not only is Stewart the youngest coach in FcS, he also the youngest coach in all of DI football, beating out cornell's David Archer by just three days.

It also marked the first time that MSu has scored in all four quarters against an FBS school since the '89 Akron game.
STAYiNG TRUEIn Saturday's game at nIu, Murray State did something few DI program will do this sea-son in starting two true freshman. Offensive lineman chris White has started both games this season for the racers, while tight end Drew rutland picked up the first start of his career last Saturday. ROW THE BOAT?Fans attending the game at WMu this week will notice the phrase "row The Boat" plas-tered everywhere. But what does it mean? Head coach P.J. Fleck explains: "There are three parts to rowing the boat. There is the oar, which is the energy behind rowing the boat. There is boat, which is the actual sacrifice, either our team or the administration or the boosters or the audi-ence or whoever is willing to sacrifice for this program. There is also the compass. Every single person that comes in contact with our football program, fans or not, they are all go-ing for one common goal and that is success."
TRiPLE DOUBLEThree Murray State players recorded 10 or more tackles in Saturday's game with DeQuinten Spraggins leading the way with 11, including nine solo. Jonathan Jackson and Joe cicoria also had big days with 10 tackles each.
NOT THE PAPER KiNDBoth Jalen Harrington and St. Pierre Anilus came up with sacks on Saturday, with Anilus racking up nine yards of loss and Harrington getting six. Harrington has adjusted quickly to his move to defense and currently has 2.5 sacks on the season and is the only racer to get at least one sack in each game so far in 2015.
FUMBLEREWSKiJalen Harrington and Dylan Boone each had big fumble returns in the game, with Har-rington returning the ball 47 yards and Boone going 60 yards on his scoop up. Harrington's return, on a fumble that he caused, set up a field goal, while Boone scored on his return.
KiCK STRONGKicker carson Greifenkamp continued his strong start to 2015 on Saturday by going 2-for-2 on PATs and 2-for-2 on field goals. Both field goals were 26 yards, which is now his new season long. He also averaged 58.7 yards on six kickoffs in the game, with one going for a touchback.
2015 Murray State Football Game Notes 14
THE iNSiDE TRACKFBS FUTiLiTY The racers are 2-25-2 all-time against FBS opponents since Division I split into two smaller divisions in 1978. The two wins both came against in-state foe, Louisville, with the last one occurring over 30 years ago in 1984. COMPARE & CONTRASTThe fact that both Murray State and Ken-tucky Wesleyan returned a majority of their starters from the 2014 meeting in Thurs-day's game made it easy to draw compari-sons. In the first half Thursday, MSu allowed just 115 yards and no points, while giving up 270 yards, four touchdowns and a field goal in the opening stanza a year ago.
MR. 300Thursday marked the sixth 300-plus yard performance of Humphries' career and fifth in a row, dating back to last season. The five touchdowns he threw also ties his career-high, which he set last season against uT Martin.
KiCK iTSenior carson Greifenkamp was a perfect 8-for-8 in place kicks Thursday, converting on seven PATs and knocking down a 21-yard field goal. In addition, he kicked off eight times for an average of 61.8 yards with two touchbacks.
UNDER PRESSUREWith new coordinator chris Boone at the helm, opponents can expect the racer defense to bring more pressure on the quarterback this season, if Thursday is any indication. In the season opener, MSu came up with five quarterback hurries, compared to just 10 in all of last season.
WHAT A RUSH The 191 rushing yards by the racers Thurs-day were the most since nov. 17, 2012 against Southeast Missouri, when MSu ran for 219 yards. roman clay had 96 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown, while nick Tay-lor had 72 yards on 14 carries and a score. The touchdown was the first of clay's career and his 96 yards was a career high.
A SMASHiNG DEBUTThursday night's win makes Mitch Stewart with 10th head coach in MSu history to win his first game at the helm of the racers and first since Joe Pannunzio in 2000.
THE DEAN'S LiSTSenior Zach Dean led all Murray State defen-sive players Thursday with nine total tackles including five solo. He also had 2.0 sacks for a loss of 11 yards, 4.5 tackles-for-loss total-ing 27 yards and two quarterback hurries. The tackles, sacks and tackles-for-loss he tallied in the opener are all new career highs.
SWiTCHiNG iT UPSenior Jalen Harrington made the move from offense to defense Thursday and it proved to be a successful one. Harrington tied De-Quinten Spraggins with second most tackles on the team at eight and tallied a sack for a loss of seven yards and a 1.5 tackles-for-loss for a total of nine yards. MSU DEBUTSMitch Stewart was named as the 18th head coach in Murray State history last Decem-ber, after the departure of chris Hatcher. In their first games as head coach at MSu, the previous 17 coaches have had mixed results going 9-7-1. The last coach to win his debut was Joe Pannunzio in 2000, when the racers blasted Southern Illinois at home, 42-20. OUT OF THE GATESAs it begins its 91st season of football, Murray State is currently 48-38-4 all-time in season openers. In home openers, the numbers are even better at 61-25-4. On 44 occasions, the racers have begun the season at home and in those games they have done very well going 32-12.
NUMBER CHANGESAs the year changes, so do the numbers. Several racers will be wearing new numbers for the 2015 season.
Name OLD # New #Jonathan Jackson 32 4 John Morris 44 46T-ray Malone 46 8 John Welsh 68 43 Landon Stratton 81 37 Grant Lowrance 83 87 Troy Marshall 92 63 Warren conway 97 92
NEW HELMETSFor the seventh consecutive season, the racers will be wearing new head gear. The 2015 helmet will be different than anything the racers have ever worn. This year's helmet shifts to a matte navy finish, rather than the glossy navy of last season. The new "racer M" returns in 2015 on the left side of the helmet, but the right side will now feature the player's number. In addi-tion, checkerboard stripe that runs down the center of the helmet, now comes to a point in the back, rather than a straight line.
OVC ACCOLADESMurray State was well represented in the preseason All-OVc awards with three players being named to the list. Pokey Harris and Janawski Harris made the cut after earning 2014 All-OVc honors and were joined by Jonathan Jackson.
LAND OF THE FREESeveral Murray State players earned pre-season All-America honors for 2015. Pokey Harris led the way with five total honors, while Jonathan Jackson and KD Humphries earned two and one, respectively.
