Project Timeline
• Beginning My TV met for 3 hours a day, 4 days a week, for 7 weeks. The goal was to produce one 30-minute episode of the documentary television show “Zoom In.”
• A video project is divided into three stages:1. Pre-Production (brainstorming, research,
writing, scripting, and storyboarding) 2. Production (hands-on work: camerawork,
sound, acting, directing, interviewing)3. Post-Production (reviewing footage, editing,
creating music, and adding graphics & titling)
Multimedia & Youth Programs Conference Call: 866-740-1260 Access Code: 6339392
Project Timeline
• The production of Zoom In was divided into 4 basic segments:
1. Pre-Production 1: Fundamentals (weeks 1-2)
2. Pre-Production 2: Planning the Show (weeks 3-4)
3. Production: Executing the Concept (weeks 5-6)
4. Post-Production: Filling in the Gaps (week 7)

productions– Conducting small research & writing projects– Learning to present an idea or a project in front
of a group– Learning to brainstorm as a group– Generating ideas for the show topic

• Students focused on:– Working in groups to learn the various jobs of a video
crew (camera, lights, sound, director, producer)– Preparing and filming mock interviews, rotating different
jobs on the crew and on-camera roles.– Watching media relevant to their show topic– Writing skits to be produced into show segments

Successful Strategies
• Immediate media: every exercise was followed with a presentation of what they produced.
• Podcasts & Blogs were integrated into the class so that there was a natural synthesis between the technology we were teaching and the technology that students already used. Listen to radio podcasts at www.baycat.org!
• Improv and theater exercises were used to build trust and community and to improve participation, creativity, and on-camera skills.
• A presentation for family and friends immediately after the class gave the students a sense of success and completion and helped them see how their participation created their success.
