MULTICULTURALISM

Page 2: Multiculturalism

 Introduction:

•Today, it is not surprising to see many people from totally different races, cultures and ethnic backgrounds living together in one society.”

Page 3: Multiculturalism

MULTICULTURALISM• We are different, but there is nothing wrong or threatening for that difference. We are all seeking a better life for ourselves and our future generations and there is no place for an "us and them"

Page 4: Multiculturalism

•Today, it isn’t unusual to see people of all different races, ethnic backgrounds or cultural groups living in one society. Such a society is a mixture of different people. Since they live in a society that is influenced by many social factors, expressing their group identity without coming into conflict with other groups on general laws and customs may be a hard task

Multiculturalism Around the World

•It exists in all the countries.•The most multicultural countries are: •the USA •Canada •the UK•Australia

Page 6: Multiculturalism

However, in some of them, this is not well accepted, such as:

•In France •In Germany•The European Union is concerned with this subject and is trying to solve this problem, by making laws and promoting the tolerance.

Page 7: Multiculturalism

What can we say about this?

•It is easier for different ethnic groups to live peacefully in large cities than in smaller towns, since people in smaller locations are more likely to feel prejudice towards them and a little scared of different and strange people.

Page 8: Multiculturalism

For Example:

•New York is a large urban center where, although different cultures live in independent neighborhoods within the city, like China Town or Little Italy, they don’t feel hatred or prejudice towards each other and live in harmony and have respect for one another

Page 9: Multiculturalism

Who’s to blame?•Each one of us has their values, their opinions, makes their judgments and takes their own conclusions, but we should be aware that we all do this the same way. Independently of the color of our skin, the way we move, of the shape of our faces or our religion we are all human, we are all rational beings and as such we don’t find a reason for this lack of respect towards society.

Page 10: Multiculturalism

Who’s to blame?

•Discrimination is something we are all guilty of.•”It is common to hear such kind of expressions on the streets: •“That man/woman is black, it means: gangster or drug dealer”• “That guy is Muslim, terrorist”• “Look, there goes a gay, he is sick”

My Opinion:

•We have to learn to set aside our differences and accept each other for what we are. If there wasn’t such and ethnic and cultural difference in our society, life wouldn’t be as interesting as it is.
