M ULLET ( On Oct. 18th, 193 4, the sma ll l abo r a tory pool was s eined w ith a minnow se ine in order to s ecure sp ecimens of the Thorn ton Isl a nd m ullet . One wa s obta in ed havi ng a standa rd lengt h of 34 units on the Bureau of Fisheries t cm. sca le , i . e . 17 cm. It was in good condition . On Oct . 22nd the Thornton Is . pool wa s netted for the first time this year and two spe cimens w ere removed and brought to the l aborato ry . On Oct. 26th one of th ese fish was not ed in shallow wat er, evi - dently Si ck, and wa s re po rted sp otted w ith sore s. The fish wa s never recovered as dead a nd has n ot be en seen since . On No v. 17th Thornton Is . p ool was again net ted and two mullet procured . 12 mullet we re seen to jump over the net . The pool was consider ably sma ller , the deepest part b eing only knee dee as aga inst hip dep th on the pr evious seining . Dr .
