I. Important Notices Regarding Admission1. Requirements:
Important Notices:
Ministry of EducationsRegulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies inTaiwan amendments have been completed, and the draft will be finalized before the end of
December. The policy will become effective on February 1st, 2012. Any required documentsand related regulations will be posted on the official website of the Ministry of EducationunderRegulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan. Futureapplicants are required to check this official website for any updates or changes of regulations.(http://www.edu.tw/content.aspx?site_content_sn=23092

(1) Identity:
An applicant who is a foreigner that has never had the citizenship of the Republic of China (Taiwan), nor
the status as an overseas Chinese student at the time of application shall apply in accordance with theRegulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan.
An applicant who has foreign citizenship(s) and has been studying abroad for six years in a row(excluding mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau) at the time of application shall also apply inaccordance with the Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan:
1. At the time of application, an applicant who also has Taiwanese citizenship must never had householdregistered in Taiwan.
2. An applicant who has had Taiwanese citizenship before but no longer has it at the time of applicationmust have it revoked for at least eight years counting from the time the citizenship-revocation wasapproved by the Ministry of Interior (MOI).
3. An applicant who meets the two above conditions must never have studied in Taiwan as an overseasChinese student before nor being placed by the University Entrance Committee for Overseas ChineseStudents in the given academic year.
The six years period stated above, with the admission date of the first semester as the starting date forcalculation for continuous residency, means foreign students stay in Taiwan cannot exceed 120 days forevery calendar year.
Note 1: A foreign student who has been admitted to study in Taiwan before but expelled due tomisconducts, poor academic performance, or a convicted criminal act must not reapply by theRegulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan.
Note 2: A foreign student who has been admitted to study in Taiwan and completed the targeted program
may apply to enter the next phase of the studies (except masters programs or higher) inaccordance with the regulations of individual school. The application in this regard shall be thesame as that for general students in Taiwan.
(2) Education background:
1. An applicant applying to undergraduate programs must have completed high school or above inanother country.
2. An applicant applying to master programs must have completed undergraduate studies or above.3. An applicant applying to doctoral programs must have completed masters studies or above.
2. Number of years allowed for studies:
Undergraduate studies: 4 ~ 6 years. Masters studies: 1 ~ 4 years. Doctoral studies: 2 ~ 7 years.

3. Application procedure:
(1)Applications are accepted between February 1, 2012 and April 30, 2012 (based on postmarks, lateapplications will not be accepted.)
(2) Method of application: correspondence.The application form (Based on postmark needs) needs to be registered mail to Division ofAcademic Development and Cooperation, Office of Research and Development at 134, Sec. 2,
Heping East Rd., Daan District, Taipei City, 10671, Taiwan (R.O.C.) (Please paste Attachment 1included in these general regulations on the cover of the envelope).
(3) Application fees:
1 Application fees: $1,200 NTD or $40 USD per department per person.
2 Methods of payment:Attach the receipt of your wire-transfer to the NTUE account within the application documents

(4) Required documents:1 Check-list of required documents (Attachment 2).
2 Receipt of payment: If the payment is made in person or through a representative to the cashieron the 2ndfloor of NTUEs general affairs building, please provide a copy of the receipt. If the
payment is made via bank transfer, please provide a receipt of the transaction.
3 One copy of a Affidavit for admission (Attachment 3).
4 One copy of Application Form for Admission (Attachment 4; please print out the onlineapplication form and attach a recent 2-inch bust and hatless photo).
5 One copy of the applicants passport or nationality document.
6 One copy of the document showing the applicants highest completed education or academicequivalency and past transcripts which have been verified by one of Taiwans overseasinstitutes, offices, or other organizations authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs(Hereinafter referred as overseas institutes). (If the document is originally written in a languageother than Chinese or English, the included translation needs to be verified as well.) If theauthorization can not be done by the deadline, please fill out the Affidavit of DocumentVerification (Attachment 5).
7 One copy of a financial statement proving the applicant has enough funding to study in Taiwan.
This can be done using by one of the four following methods:1 A financial statement provided by an overseas bank showing a balance of $6,500 USD ormore in a sealed envelope and sent directly to the university.2 A financial statement provided by a bank in Taiwan showing a balance of $200,000 NTD or
more in a sealed envelope and sent directly to the university.3 Documents showing the applicant is granted a scholarship.4 If the account does not belong to the applicant, a financial statement of the applicants
sponsor (Attachment 6) and proof of savings needs to be attached.
8 With Chinese Proficiency Test level 2 (or above) or the qualification of other equivalenttests; if there is no qualification attached or the applicant need to improve Chinese ability afterthe evaluation, extra Chinese course at their own expense is required. This rule will base on thestandard of each department.
9 All assigned documents from departments (See the rules on the application of each department.) 10 Applicants address label (To receive ones application results, please download Attachment 7,
input with Word, print it out, and attach it to the other documents sent by mail).

Please organize the above documents in an appropriate order, put them in an envelope,and mail it out.
(5) Other important notices:
1 After a foreign student is admitted to study in Taiwan, he/she shall be expelled from theuniversity should he/she have his/her household registered in or moved to Taiwan, acquire orrestore his/her Taiwanese citizenship, or lose his/her foreign-student status.
2 The applicant can apply to more than one department; however, he/she can only report-in andregister one of the departments.
3 An international student of NTUE who has already applied for suspended schooling or delayedschooling cannot re-apply to the same program in the same department.
4 At the time of application, an applicant with foreign educational background needs to submitdocuments showing his/her highest level of education or academic equivalency. Unless issued byan overseas Taiwanese school, the documents should be processed in accordance with theRegulations Regarding the Assessment and Recognition of Foreign Academic Credentials forInstitutions of Higher Education.
5 If the department is applying to have written, oral, or subject-specific examinations, the applicantneeds to bring the original copy of his/her passport (or other ID) to the test location on the
specified date of the examination.6 Once an applicants has submitted the applications, he/she is not allowed to change
departments or programs or ask for a refund for any reason. No submitted documents will bereturned.
7 If the information or documents submitted by a student who has registered or has been accepted islater determined as not meeting the requirements or is faulty, fabricated, unauthentic, altered, orinvalid, the applicant will no longer be allowed to take entrance examinations or attend school;and no academic documents of any form will be issued. If the above violations are discoveredafter the applicant has graduated from NTUE, his/her diploma and credentials will be revoked by
public announcement.
8 In accordance with the Department of Health, international students who are taking up residence
in Taiwan need to be screened for syphilis, measles, and rubella, or they must provide proofshowing that they have received relevant inoculations. In accordance with Article 14 of theStatute for AIDS Prevention and Control, health authorities must screen foreigners who willstay or take residence in Taiwan for 3 months or longer or ask them to provide documentsshowing that they have undergone AIDS examinations. Those who are found positive in thescreening or refuse to undergo screening will be ordered to leave Taiwan.
9 The verification of documents showing the applicants highest level of education in a foreigninstitute or academic equivalency or the translated version of past transcripts should be done atone of Taiwans overseas institutes, a court of law in Taiwan, or an approved notary withinTaiwan.
10 If an international student wishes to take education courses during his/her time at NTUE, he/sheneeds to submit an application and participate in the relevant examination according to NTUEs
regulations. Upon the successful completion of the required education courses, the student mayapply to the NTUE Teacher Education and Careers Service Center for a certificate that proveshis/her completion of the education courses and serves as a reference for him/her to apply forworking as a teacher in his/her own country. However, the student is not allowed to enroll in the6-month education internship nor participate in the teacher certification examination in Taiwan.His/her application for working as a teacher in his/her own country is subject to the relevantregulations in that location.
4. Review or examination: Conducted in accordance with each departments regulations.
5. Announcement of Acceptance:
Names of successful applicants will be announced on the website listed below, and letters of acceptancewill be mailed before May 31, 2012. (Website: http://exam.ntue.edu.tw/exm.register/fApp.htm ).
The letter stating the result of application is mailed out using the address label (Attachment 7)printed by the applicant. Please make sure the address label is typed using Word. The

applicant is held responsible if the letter cannot be received in time due to any illegiblewriting of the address.
6. Report-in and Registration:
(1) On the date specified by the letter of acceptance, the admitted student needs to report to the Divisionof Admission, Office of Academic Affairs with the required documents. Those who fail to do so aredeemed as forfeiting their enrollment.
1 If the applicants documents such as the diplomas or transcripts submitted at the time ofregistration have not yet been verified by one of Taiwans overseas institutes, the applicant needsto complete the verification process before the deadline. Those who fail to do so will be deniedof his/her enrollment status.
2 At the time of registration, the admitted student needs to provide documents proving he/she hasat least 4 months of valid medical and injury insurance. The documents should also have beenverified by one of Taiwans overseas institutes. If the student is covered under Taiwans NationalHealth Insurance, he/she needs to provide the relevant documents.
3 Admitted undergraduate students will undergo a physical examination held by NTUE. Admittedpostgraduate students need to undergo physical examinations, at their own cost, at a publichospital or health station (Including general physical examinations and a chest x-ray) and
provide results.
4 Admitted students also need duplicates of documents proving that they have passed the physicalexaminations for international students taking residence in Taiwan.
(2) The deadline of an admitted student to report-in is the first day of school specified on our SchoolCalendar. Those who fail to report-in on time are deemed as forfeiting the enrollment status. If thestudent cannot register and start school due to major illness or special circumstances, he/she mustapply to the Division of Admission, Office of Academic Affairs before the deadline with relevantdocuments for delayed schooling. Approved applicants will be allowed to delay schooling for oneyear; such application can only be made once. Approved applicants can enroll in the followingacademic year and are treated as new students.

Standard Chart for NTUE 2011 Tuition and Other Applicable Fees
1. Fees for Full-time Undergraduate Studies For reference onlyCurrency: NTD
Note:(1) All students enrolled in NTUE need to pay student insurance fees every semester.
(2) If the undergraduate student who studies beyond the allowed period of time has 9 credit hours
(including or less), only the credit hour fees ($2,340 NTD per credit) and student insurance fees will
be collected. If the student takes 10 credit hours or more, the entire amount of tuitions and
miscellaneous fees will be collected. If the course has 0 credit hours, the fee is calculated as 1 credit
hour, although the credit hour remains 0.
(3) Regarding other tuition or miscellaneous fees or scholarships, please check the online announcement
in the related section on NTUE website.
(4) Except the above mentioned tuition and boarding fee, the books will cost approximately $3000~5000NT, insurance is about $9,200 NT per year and living expenses is about $8,000 NT per month.
