92 Supplement to the operating instructions MTC / ATC
Preface
Dear user,
progressive technology and high quality of the testing devices is guaranteed by continuous further development.
The performance range of the testing devices MTC 1602.04 and ATC 1601.26 has been extended by the initialisation, programming and inspection of the following digital tacho-graphs:
• DTCO 1381 (Siemens VDO Automotive)
• SE5000 (Stoneridge Electronics)
• SmarTach® (ACTIA).
Purpose of thisDescription
This documentation, BA00.1602.04 663 300, serves as a sup-plement to the existing operating instructions and describes the proper execution of the initialisation, programming and inspection of the digital tachographs.
Since the procedure corresponds to that for the device type MTCO 1324, only operating steps which deviate from the normal procedure will be described in detail.
NOTEIn the following the MTC 1602.04 will be referred to by the abbreviation MTC and the ATC 1601.26 will be referred to by the abbreviation ATC.
CAUTIONThis documentation only applies when used with the oper-ating instructions for SDS test devices
• BA00.1602.04 100 300 for the MTC or
• BA00.1601.26 100 300 for the ATC.

Chapter 3 Measuring and testing procedures
3.1 DTCO 1381 / SE5000
For the programming (adaptation to the vehicle) of the DTCO 1381 and the SE5000 use the test device to determine the following values:
• MTC
– characteristic coefficient (w-value)
• ATC
– characteristic coefficient (w-value)
– wheel circumference (l-value)
The measuring and testing procedures are to be carried out in the same way as for the device type MTCO 1324.
NOTEFor detailed information concerning the measuring and testing procedures please refer to the appropriate operating instructions:
• BA00.1602.04 100 300 for the MTC
• BA00.1601.26 100 300 for the ATC.

3.2 SmarTach®
3.2 SmarTach®
For the programming (adaptation to the vehicle) of the SmarTach® use the test device to determine the following values:
• MTC
– characteristic coefficient (w-value)
• ATC
– characteristic coefficient (w-value)
– wheel circumference (l-value)
The measuring and testing procedures* are to be carried out in the same way as for the device type MTCO 1324.
* The procedure "k-measurement" in the MTC or "Checking and adjusting the k-value" in the ATC differs from the procedure for the device type MTCO 1324 and will be described in detail on the following pages.

3.2 SmarTach®
3.2.1 Instructions for the measuring and testing procedures SmarTach®
For the measuring and testing procedures the handling of the SmarTach® deviates – depending on the operating status activated or non-activated – from the accustomed handling of the tachographs.
SmarTach® non-activated
In an non-activated SmarTach® you can program the stat-utory* and non-statutory parameters in the usual manner as individual values.
SmarTach® activated
In an activated SmarTach® in the operating mode "Cali-bration" you can only program the non-statutory parameters in the usual manner as individual values.
The statutory parameters cannot be programmed as indi-vidual values, but only within the framework of a complete calibration process; see "Overview of the calibration process SmarTach®" on page 105.
* Overview of the statutory parameters:• k-constant• wheel circumference• odometer• vehicle identification number (VIN)• calibration date• maximum speed• country code• vehicle registration number (VRN)• tyre size

3.2 SmarTach®
3.2.2 Overview of the calibration process SmarTach®
NOTEIn the case of a first calibration or a periodic inspection of the SmarTach®, the calibration process described below must always be run completely in the given sequence!
Step 1 Programming the installation data
• Confirmation or, as applicable, alteration of the statutory parameters
• Confirmation or, as applicable, alteration of the non-stat-utory parameters, e.g. device- or vehicle-specific param-eters
Note
The statutory parameters are first stored in the test device; the non-statutory parameters are transmitted (pro-grammed) immediately as individual values.
Step 2 Determination of the characteristic coefficient (w-value)
• MTC: manual or automatic measuring track (w-value)
• ATC: automatic measurement (w-value, I-value)
Note
The determined values are first stored in the test device.
Step 3 Calibration of the SmarTach®
The test device carries out the following steps:
• Adjustment of the k-value (k = w)
• Transmission (programming) of the statutory param-eters
• Pairing with the KITAS (updating of the KITAS data)
