In this position, Mullins will serve the vision of the Board and oversee the Chamber’s Membership Services organization as well as the Mt. Shasta Visitor’s Bureau operations. “Jim’s extensive experience with staff development and management, regional marketing and sales as well as successful community events comes with a proven track record,” said Brett Waite, current Mount Shasta Chamber of Commerce President. “We are confident in his ability to serve, benefit and expand the Chamber Membership as well as contribute to Mount Shasta area’s overall economic growth.” The Mt. Shasta area, and to greater extent all of south Siskiyou County, is poised and ready to solidify our existing business base while at the same time seeking out opportunities that our economy presents. Jim Mullins will play a vital role in this pivotal moment in our community’s evolution. While we are excited about welcoming Jim Mullins, we must also pay tribute to Marie-Josée Wells who has had the vision to position our Chamber in a leading role for our area. We wish her great success in her new endeavor at Great Northern Services. Marie was the face of the Chamber for the past 8 plus years. She successfully implemented many creative programs to the betterment of the local business community and the overall success of the Chamber as an organization. We look forward to continuing our mission to serve our membership by promoting a strong local economy, advocating business interests and supporting tourism. Shasta Summit Century August 3, 2014 The California Welcome Center, housed at the Collier Interpretive & Informa- tion Center, is located on the Klamath River at Highway 96 and I-5 just south of the Oregon border. The center which officially opened in May is consid- ered a “port of entry” for travelers into California. This, the newest Welcome Center, anticipates serving up to 75,000 annual travelers and visitors seeking a break from their drive and information about our region. Tourist information is available in the Welcome Center from 10:00am to 5:00pm, seven days a week (excluding holidays). If you haven’t been to the Collier Interpretive & Information Center in awhile, stop by and see what they have to offer. Advertising opportunities are also available if you have brochures, rack cards or another form of hand-out materials. Fondly referred to by many as “Big Jim,” Jim Mullins brings a personable warmth and emphasis on relationship building and addressing the needs of our members. Thank you for your patience while the Board followed a three phase vetting process involving full board paper review, interviews and in-person candidate presentations. This eight-week process was intentional and paced, by design, to ensure that the over twenty national and regional applicants were fairly reviewed and had a positive and professional experience interacting with the Chamber. Our members are our top priority, and Jim demonstrated commitment to this throughout the selection process. The Board is committed to furthering its key role in promoting Mount Shasta Area’s member businesses’ economic vitality, destination marketing development and identifying, shaping and preserving our unique community character. Jim’s background in economic development and his firsthand understanding of how businesses can be sus- tainable and expand will facilitate this well. The jersey and shirt designs will be released soon and in nearly one month riders from all over the world (yes, the world!) will be converging on Mt. Shasta for the Summit Century Bike Ride. As you pedal through some of the most breathtaking scenery you’ve ever seen and pedal up some of the most relentless climbs you’ve ever ridden — keep in mind our cloverleaf route layout lets you push yourself farther than you ever expected.
