Year 8’s will be asked to complete forms indicating preferences for dental care for year 9 onwards. This is another important document to ensure ongoing dental treatment. To all of our students involved in competitions over the upcoming week, play hard, play fair, be supportive of your own teammates, show respect towards your opposition, but most of all, enjoy your games. ABSENTEES TEXT: 027 232 0446 EMAIL: [email protected] If the office is not informed of a reason for your child’s absence then they will be marked as having an unjustified or truant absence on their record.
LATE STUDENTS All students must come to the student lobby if they are late to school or arrive after the bell, to receive a late pass from us. Please remind your child of this as sometimes our absentee text service sends out texts to parents/caregivers because the child has not received a late pass, therefore, we have not registered that they are present.
PAYING FEES ONLINE If you wish to pay by bank automatic payments or one off payments please do so. Our bank account is:

In short, when they visit the mobile clinic here in year 8, they will be asked who their dentist will be when they leave here and attend college next year. Jed, Harper and Alex, from Room 20, have come up with a gold coin challenge for their topic inquiry, which is learning to make a difference to the world around us, in particular the environment. On Monday, 19th of June, each class will be handed a container. Your child's class will have 2 weeks to fill the container with as many gold coins as possible. Whichever class raises the most amount of money will receive a free fish and chip lunch. The money that is raised will be donated to Sea Shepherd Global. Sea Shepherd is an organisation that uses direct action to protect marine life. If you would like more information please search it up on Wikipedia.
We hope your child participates, don't forget to donate.
THANK YOU FROM ROOM 20!!

The Anchor AIMS games run from Sunday, 10th September to Friday, 15th September. Mount Maunganui Intermediate will be entering a number of teams in this event (Please note that this is a National elite sporting competition and that we can only enter one team per code and we pick our best team in each code). There has a huge turnout of students who have been trialling for a team/s or an individual sport for AIMS. All of the AIMS teams or initial squads for teams will be named on Friday 2nd June. Please respect the decisions that have been made by a group of selectors who have been through a thorough selection process. It must also be remembered that teams are selected as joint year levels, not a Year 7 team and a Year 8 team. If an outside coach is been used we have ensured that a staff member from our school is part of the trial and selection process. The students were asked to list in preference their preferred choices of team sports. If a student trialled and was selected for more than one team they needed to make a choice which team they would commit to. Where possible these team selections have made before the cut-off date for those who may wish to enter as an individual if they miss team selection. Please note that due to potential time clashes that a student can ONLY play for one team sport. If your child would like to enter an event as an individual they should have brought home/ or been e mailed a newsletter outlining the cost of the event and cut-off date for the final payment. A list of those confirmed as individuals who would like to be considered for entry is below. As per the team codes there may be limited number of places available in some sports so the Teacher in Charge of the Sport would need to make the final selection of students. If your child does not appear on the list (as of Wednesday 7th June), or should not be on the list could you please notify Troy Jennings as soon as possible. All individual entries SHOULD HAVE BEEN finalised by Friday 2nd June. If they have been selected in a team sport they will more than likely not be able to compete as an individual (Cross Country, Swimming, Multi Sport may be exceptions). Before we can enter an individual we must have received payment as the school does not get any refunds from AIMS if someone withdraws. All late entries also incur a 50% increase in cost. Therefore if we have not received the entrance fee by next Monday 12th June your child unfortunately will not be registered. Team sports have all finished trials (except Hip Hop and Aerobics). We will be entering teams in the following, Aerobics, Basketball (boys & girls), Football (boys & girls), Futsal (boys), Gymnastics, Hockey (mixed 6 a side team), Netball, Rugby 7s (boys & girls), and Water Polo (mixed open & girls). We are still determining whether we will be entering a Hip Hop team this year. This will be confirmed next week. If you would like to find out any extra information about any code in the AIMS games you can find out by visiting the web page http://nzaimsgames.co.nz/. Please contact Troy Jennings at [email protected] if you have any questions regarding the AIMS games.

Gisborne Intermediate School is bringing some teams to our area for the winter tournament (netball, hockey, football, and rugby 15s), which is held on Friday 4th August. They have inquired if we may be able to help out along with Tauranga Intermediate, by billeting some of their girls and boys teams. The players will need to be billeted on Thursday 3rd August. Gisborne Intermediate billets our school a number of times during each year, so it would be great to show them the hospitality we always receive. If you are able to help out we would very much appreciate it. Please contact Troy Jennings at [email protected] if you are able to help or have any queries.
ELITE SQUASH Last Friday was Elite Squash for our MMI squash players. It was held in Tauranga at the Devoy Squash Centre. There were players from multiple schools from the Bay of Plenty including from Taupo, Rotorua, Tauranga, Whakatane, Mount Maunganui and more. Representing MMI was Emma Merson, Libby Price, Danielle Flood-Smith, Zak Morrison and Daniel Guilford. We all played hard and had some wins and some losses. Emma ended up coming 3rd in the competition. We all played 3 games each and when we weren’t playing, we were referees, markers and cheering on our team mates. Thanks to those parents who supported us throughout the day By Daniel Guilford
