FROM THE PRINCIPAL Kia ora koutou Thank you so much to all of you who attended learning conferences on Tuesday. It was lovely to speak with many of you. These conversations about learning are so important in building those home/school partnerships. It was so affirming to hear how positive the learning conferences were. Arts Celebration: Oh my goodness! MMI you blow me away. The singing, music, dance, art and wearable arts was phenomenal. I am immensely proud of you all! To our designers and models who are competing in the sustainable art awards, all the best for Sunday. MMI we are a talented bunch! Building Update: Students are moving classrooms and classrooms will be renumbered. In the July break six village classrooms will be removed. 4 will remain. This will be the home for Motiti house. Phones, water and external safety matting will be installed over the break. The new block of ten is finished. Rangiwaea, Karewa and Moturiki will be shifting into the new classes. Phones, wireless and televisions will be installed over the break. New furniture also arrives for two more classes. The two old prefabs 20/21 will be demolished over the break. Construction of a new toilet block and disabled bathroom begins in term three. We are also working with the Ministry of Education to see if rooms 22/23 will be completely refurbished in the latter part of the year or whether 2-6 new Alim focused classrooms, will be built. Watch this space. After, a bumpy behaviour start to the year, it is so lovely to see calm focused classrooms and a happy and settled playground. It shows that you have all worked hard to meet high expectations for your learning and behaviour. Have a wonderful weekend. Miles of Smiles Ms M/Whaea Lisa
A big thank you to those who have offered to host a Japanese student from 31 July to 12 August. I will be in touch shortly with details of their arrival and plans. We still URGENTLY REQUIRE host families for 3 Chinese, female students, aged 13 years, from 31 July to 21 August. These girls come from a school Ms Morresey and I visited last September. It is quite possible that our school will be forming a sister school relationship with their school in the future and possibly students from here may get the opportunity to visit Suzhou also. If you are interested in hosting any of these girls, or would like more information, please contact Jane Howard, International Student Director, by phoning the school, 575 5512 or email [email protected].
PSG NEWS SMASHING THE ARTS WOW is all we can say. What a fabulous afternoon out. The performances by our kids were truly fantastic. And the Trash to Fash entries, again WOW. A special shout out to Anna Beck as she was the driving force behind this event. Thanks too, to Anna Mountford, who organised the smooth running of the day from ‘behind the stage’. TRASH TO FASH WINNER Well done to Hope Gibbard for her winning entry to our fundraiser, “Trash to Fash”. There was a high standard of entries and they will all represent MMI extremely well on Sunday, at the Sustainable Art Awards. We wish them all well. Article in Bay of Plenty Times
The humble teabag takes on a new lease of life when it is unveiled as the integral element in a
glorious costume designed by 13-year-old Hope Gibbard.
Hope has entered her outfit in the Sustainable Art Challenge, Trash to Fash section, and the
awards ceremony is being held at Baycourt this weekend.
Buzzing with excitement and inspiration from last year's show, Hope started thinking about her
concept in the middle of last year.

We are getting an increasing amount of parents calling for us to get messages to their children throughout the day. At times this can be difficult to do, students can be in various different areas such as “Tech Classes, Physical Education, Library and on a Fridays, for the last block. We would really appreciate your help in keeping your children informed as to your arrangements prior to coming to school. Such as, if it is raining, then they need to know what the after school arrangement will be. We do appreciate that your day can change as well, but we are hoping we may be able to reduce this a little, if possible.
Medical Information Recently we have had a number of students who have been injured or unwell and have returned to participating in physical activities. It would greatly help us if you could discuss with your child their physical limits so they do not put themselves in harm’s way. Please inform the office if your child has had an injury, has been unwell or should not participate fully in physical activity for medical reasons. If you have concerns regarding their continuing recovery, we can then pass this information on directly to all staff which covers PE,
Dance, Kiwi Can and classroom teachers. We apologise if your child has been injured due to any of these reasons.
Payments
Parents who wish to pay fees by bank automatic payments are encouraged to do so. Our bank account is:
12 3146 0104711 03 Please put child’s name as the reference. The top priority item on your account will be credited unless otherwise stated by you.
ELITE ROCK CLIMBING On Friday 24th June, ten MMI students travelled down to Taupo, to compete in the BOP/Poverty Bay Intermediate Rock Climbing competition. The students started off with 4 walls, 2 for girls, and 2 for boys. There were certain colours that they had to follow up the wall and they were numbered from bottom to top. Two of our students Mia Thompson (year 7 girl), and Emma Dooney (year 8 girl), made it to the finals. All 5 year 7 girls, reached the same point in the final. Unfortunately Mia missed out after a great effort on a countback. Congratulations to Emma, who came home with the gold medal, after a great climb in the final. Congratulations to our Year 7 team, who came second overall. Well done to the following students who represented our school so well; Kahlia Cullwick, Maddie Ford, Emma Dooney, Sam Hudson, Mia Thompson, Aria Ebbing, Lucy Bartlett, Joe Hoskins, Max Way and Cole Blockley.
